My experience with the Quantum Access did not start well. This resulted from a mixture of my skills (B- or C+) and the unique design of the computer. Thankfully, tech support for this device is superb. The hours are limited, but I reached a tech within seconds of calling, they were always polite and professional, and there were no language barriers to overcome. My first purchase was for the non-LAN version of the computer. It is essentially the same device, but there is one key difference, the LAN model comes preloaded with Windows 10 while the non-LAN model ships with Windows 8. When I tried to upgrade the non-LAN model to Windows 10, the pain level was significant. The 32GBs of memory means you need to be a little smarter than the average bear; there is just too little memory available to execute the upgrade as you normally would. The company does provide a video blog for the best way to go about the upgrade, but I was not ready to deal with that level of stress. It was at this point that the excellent tech rep suggested I return the original computer and purchase the LAN instead. Best recommendation of the year.
For less than 10 dollars you can add a LAN connector, which you probably won't use, but its there, and you avoid the hassle of upgrading from Windows 8 to 10. A great bargain in my opinion. I originally purchased the Access to serve as a navigation computer on a boat. The small form factor, low power draw, and solid state hard drive are great selling points. I haven't used on a boat yet, but loading the navigation software was a snap and the computer recognized the small external GPS in a flash. I am finding the Access to be a solid little device for all kinds of other tasks. It is fast to boot (solid state drive AND no bloatware), and overall acts just like your regular computer. I can surf the web, watch videos smoothly with little buffering, and also runs all of the MS Office package for school chores. Clearly, with only 2GB's of non-expandable RAM and 32 GBs of base storage, this is not the computer for photo editing or other complex tasks. The form factor is a big plus; the device takes up no room on my desk. The Wi-Fi connection is excellent, stable with good range.
As much as I like the Access, there are a few quirks and challenges. First, the device does plug directly into A TV's HDMI connector, but also requires a USB outlet or nearby AC socket for power. Given the size and shape of the Access, if your TV's only available HDMI ports are next to each other the Access will block you from using one of them. You also have to be able to reach the Access to press the on button. You might want to use a three foot HDMI extender and just place the device on your desk. I had to purchase an HDMI adapter ($10) to preserve the use of both ports. Second, my experience with the Bluetooth capabilities is very mixed. BT range seems to be great; all kind of devices show up as discoverable, but keyboards and mouse/trackpad devices simply won't stay paired. You only have a single USB port so I had to hook up a USB hub ($7) to connect wireless keyboard and mouse dongles. Headphones and other BT devices work with no issues. Lastly, depending on your planned usage, you should budget for a high capacity micro-SD card. I purchased a 128B card for about $50, and it works well. Keyboards and mice I had in abundance, so the total for a fully functioning system was about $70 extra bucks.
You will have to do the value analysis based on your needs, but for my purposes, the Access is a very affordable and technically well-suited option.
im not a hardcore gamer but i do dabble in some older games. when i'm not at work, i look forward to using this little computer, as it is a full blown desktop computer and surprisingly powerful. there is no lag when switching between programs or browsing the web. this is a big upgrade for me, as my last computer was one of those worthless netbook, a dell mini 1018. i upgraded the ram to 2 GB which didnt help at all because the graphics card of that netbook is LITERALLY the second to worst gfx card ever. if you look up benchmarks of GPU's and look up Intel GMA 3150, it scored a 2. the best gfx card scores like a 17,789 or something. so its basically the worst gfx card. it cant load even the lowest resolution youtube videos. but i dont really need a computer for much because i have an Iphone and it does everything i need.
Anyway, i had some spare money and i wanted to buy something on amazon and i remembered a few years ago hearing about the raspberry pi mini pc. so i looked on google if i could install windows OS on them and it looked like a no, except i read something about windows 10. but then i found this and i wanted it immediatly. but before i spent my money, i had to do some research. so i found a bunch of these mini pc sticks with windows 8.1 and mostly identical hardware so i read all the reviews and looked at youtube videos and found that theyre all basically the same.
however, this Quantum access has no fan and is built with a heat sink. the intel compute stick doesnt have the heat sink but has the fan and i had heard that it gets hot so i figured if this one gets hot, i can just put a little 5" fan near it to disperse the hot air if needed. so i read all the reviews and youtube videos and decided to buy this one and i'm very happy with it. i'm not a reviewer and have never tried the other pc sticks but i'm more then happy with my purchase. i already had a 32" tv, wireless mouse and keyboard and a 4 port USB hub so all i needed was the mini pc.
As soon as i got it, i fell in love because of how fast it is. there is nothing more i hate then a slow computer and so i never really used my netbook unless i needed to write up a contract on MS Word. but this thing lets me do everything i can think of. the graphics card of this thing is great. its not the best but far from the worst. the processor is very fast too and windows 8.1 works beautifully with it. i love having a computer now.
And for anyone wondering what kind of games it can hadle, these are what ive played and all work flawlessly with stable 50-60 FPS.
Grand theft auto San Andreas - and Vice City
Sims 3
Sega Dreamcast Emulator plays great on this with some lagging when the screen is clusted with its 128 bit graphics
N64 emulator all games work great
PS1 emulator all games work great on almsot maxed out settings
so thats what i wanted to say. sorry this is so long but i wanted you all to know that this thing is great for anyone looking for a quiet, powerful computer. As long as you dont expect to play GTA V on this, it will serve you will. the gfx card is very important for computers because that will determine all your video output and graphics. this computer has a very decent card and plays netflix and amazon prime perfectly.
the only thing i would like to see improved is the ram. i really wish it had 4 GB of ram. and a USB 3.0 would be fantastic. with those two upgrades, i wouldnt need another computer for many years. i'm even happy with the 32 GB eMMC storage becuse i have a 2 TB external HDD. i read somewhere about the intel compute stick is coming out with a more improved pc stick with a core m processor and 4 GB of ram. but i will wait till quantum suppliers comes out with one too because i'm very happy with this computer. but i hope quantum suppliers with stick with the atom processor, as it is a beast. i would recommend the Atom Z3795 processor. its a quad core with up to 2.39 GHz and supports up to 4 GB of ram in Dual Channel mode for maximum speed. its a pretty cheap processor and wouldnt increas the price too much. if they made a computer with all the things i just said, omfg id buy two of them the day its released.
Again, sorry this is so long. you are a hero if you read this entire review. i give you props. and i give you my word that you will NOT be dissapointed in buying this computer. for the price, you cant go wrong. i almost want to buy another for no reason, just because its so cheap. Thanks again

It's fairly snappy with the basic tasks like browsing with Chrome, or searching through files. Even OpenOffice is running well. Speed isn't really lacking! I mainly use this stick as a cheap way to have a TV wall display security system cameras. My intention is to run it 24/7 for 12 months of the year. I'll have to update this review later as time goes on.
So far, 10/10, would recommend to anyone. I left it on for a few days straight and it hasn't had an issue. Streaming cameras and using word programs aren't an issue either. This would be a great media PC platform!
