I lead a men's group at my church of about 35 to 40 men. Its a very successful men's group, and we do 2-3 book studies a year. We have read many books, most of which are very good, but this one is in a class of it's own. We read our books very slowly in order to absorb the material and apply it to our lives. Scazzero talks about emotional infants, children, adolescents, and emotional adults, and so much more. Men in our group are transforming from emotional infants into emotional adults. Absolutely agree with him, you can not be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. We've all know about the term "toxic masculinity" and while Scazzero doesn't directly address this topic, he indirectly addressees it. We frequently hear about how the Christian man in today's society is "under attack", but the reality is we have done this to ourselves. Toxic masculinity exist in the church every bit as much as it does outside the church. Bottom line is the true existence of our spirituality is loving God, others, and ourselves the way God desires us to love. As Christian men, we have failed to do this, in our marriages, workforce, and in our every day contact and presence with people. This book, if you do the work, will wake you up, and transform your life forever.
