I first found this series on Netflix, then discovered the manga. I have fallen in love. It's borderline romance, which keeps you on the edge of your seat hoping the relationship between Yato and Hiyori becomes more. There is some swearing, a good amount of flashing under the ladies' clothes, and fighting: typical of modern Japanese manga. It follows a minor Japanese god, Yato, and his "divine weapon" Yukine, and a school girl named Hiyori, who risked her life to save Yato's, which leads to her becoming half-Ayakashi (basically, half-dead). Her soul "falls" out of her body, which gives her greater strength, agility, and overall a better fighting ability. They all become close friends who deal with Yato's past together, something that often comes to bite him on the behind quite frequently.

    This review is for the current 23 books in the series. It’s well done, with a fresh spin on the tale of a human getting involved in the world of the gods. The way the relationships between the gods and their shinki (regalia) are portrayed allows for an entirely different and far more complex dynamic than is usually seen. Yato, as gods usually are, is a character of contradictions and resistant to change despite truly wanting to. Hyiori is surprisingly emotionally level headed for how many high school girls are portrayed, but weirdly accepting of a lot of things. Perhaps later in the story there is a reason for that as it seems many things have many meanings behind them in this series.

    I intend to watch the anime next.

    Beautiful artwork, well-drawn characters, lots of humor, and a unique take on the underdog in a shounen manga, Noragami's first volume is fantastic. Yato is a good-for-nothing god trying to get followers so that he can have his own shrine. Hiyori is a girl who should have died when she was hit by a bus. Instead, she's become a living ayakashi, walking the land between two worlds while Yato figures out a way to help her. Kodansha's translation not only provides some great dialogue, but also takes the time to explain (in a well-written section at the end) some of the subtleties that an English translation doesn't convey.

    For readers who love the action of shounen but also want something a little more realistic when it comes to relationships (with the hint of a possible romance), I highly recommend trying Noragami.

    Noragami is light-hearted, dark, moody, insightful, action packed, cute, angsty and suspenseful all at the same time! It's got a great story (as long as the mangaka keeps it up) and the MOST incredible artwork I've seen! I love realistically drawn manga, and this mangaka has human (and diety) anatomy down perfectly! They must have the best models, because the figures are perfectly proportioned, credible and HOT! The men look male, but not unrealistically buff and the females look female without being too cutesy and looking like chibis. Seriously, for the artwork alone I would buy this manga, but it's way more than just art. This is an awesome series that I hope keeps on as strong as it started all the way until it is finished.

Besides that, I enjoyed it. It's classified as shounen, I believe, but it's not like a lot of other shounen series- it's not all boobs and butts and dirty jokes. It's a very interesting manga, and I would recommend it to paranormal manga lovers!

    After I watched the Noragami anime, it took my spot for favorite anime ever. Noragami is amazing! After I finished the anime, I found out that the 2nd half of the anime doesn't follow the manga. So, I decided to start reading the manga. I first began to read it online but now I want to collect the volumes because I'm a big Noragami fan. The art is great, I love the characters (especially Yato), and it's pretty funny. I would recommend this to anyone.

    Also, there's going to be a Noragami season 2! The release date hasn't been announced yet, but there is going to be a season 2. I can't wait to see more of the Noragami anime!
