In use I get a good 25-30 foot throw and 15 feet wide
After receiving the unit I opened it. It is well constructed internally, all SMD construction, DC/DC to drive the LEDs (to prevent output level changing with supply voltage), wires are connected via headers on the PCB (vs being soldered) - also a sign of quality. LEDs all mounted to metal clad PCB with press on lenses over the top. Input power wire goes through a compression gland for waterproofing and there is a silicon gasket ring on the lens. I'll be buying more! Consumption is 300 mA at 12 V (4 W) (not 1 A as marked), which means 1 W LED emitters are being correctly driven (4 x 1 W), also means you can run several of these from a 12 V, 1 A wall wart. In use I get a good 25-30 foot throw and 15 feet wide. It should be possible to change the lenses to adjust the beam spread.

This model IR illuminator does very well at producing a strong beam of IR Light. The beam however is a little on the narrow side, but one good take away from this model Illuminator is that the sensor is very sensitive to light and only turns the LEDs on when lighting conditions are almost pitch dark saving precious run time on the LEDs.

I'm still waiting to see how long these four Super LEDs last compared to the other model with 48 Standard LEDs.

**With this type of Illuminator, if fully exposed to rain, be sure the metal casing is fully screwed together, the front lens ring is fully screwed in and the wire entry nipple is fully screwed in to avoid moisture leakage.

The light pattern is not particularly even, but it throws a lot of IR and if you position and angle it correctly, it can handle a difficult situation.
Cannot really speak to its reliability -- will update here as it proves out.

Waterproof, it is NOT. Lots of moisture behind lens. It is still functioning, however. Also, for as much power as it's using, I would expect it to be more powerful and less of a 'spot' light and more of a flood. -Just my 2¢

Well made, very durable and looks like it would last forever. If I were building my own and could replace the LEDs, this is the enclosure I would use. That said, beyond the aesthetics and the durability, the functionality is lacking. This luminary is extremely dim. After reading reviews for this product, it seems most tend to use it outside. Well, my application was indoors and this product couldn't light up the inside of a garage, so I doubt it would do very well outside.

This was an underwhelming illuminator. Threw barely enough IR to light up an outdoor scene only 13 feet away only about 10 feet wide. The illuminators in my cameras are worlds better than this, and they're pretty crappy. This does in fact provide IR illumination, but probably only useful for lighting up a small doorway area from a few feet away. There are better alternatives.

I purchased this illuminator (U03R) in addition to the CMVision IR3. Both appear to be built using the same chassis and both work well, however the CMVision uses 3 LEDs vs 4 and usees a different lens (vs the Univivi). I was looking for a very wide angle illuminator and compared to the IR3, this one seems to have more even coverage and a significantly wider angle. Needless to say I was very impressed with this illuminator and will be purchasing more for my other cameras.

All I can say is that 90 deg is a bit of a stretch. This is no more wide angle than the IR lights on the camera. Is does put out descent light but its still a beam more than a flood. I ordered 2 of these hoping to cover the viewing area of the camera. It did not. I just installed them today so we will see how long they last. Considering the price and the fact that are a Chinese product, I don't expect they will last more than a few weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bright but too focused
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 25, 2016
I have tried some of the 48 LED IR lamps which have a very similar outer construction to this one. Whilst I quite like the 48 LED lamps, I was interested to find out how they compared to the 4 SMT (surface Mount Technology) LEDs in the Univivi U03R.

First thing to point out is that these lamps are quite small, probably only about 6cm in diameter (slightly narrower than a standard can of Coke). The cable is also quite short at about 60cm (although I didn't actually measure it) so it is unlikely to reach through the average double skinned brick wall on a house.

Strictly speaking I think these lamps should be described as 'Near Infrared' as there is some visible light in the form of a faint red glow. This isn't a problem for me but I know some users like their CCTV systems to be completely covert.

The light produced by the Univivi U03R is reasonably powerful, probably brighter than the light generated by the internal LEDs on most CCTV cameras but it is tightly focused, rather like a torch. This means that for short distances (say less than 5m), the light does not spread enough for most modern wide-angle CCTV cameras. I would say this light is probably better suited to applications requiring a range of 20m or so.

The unit is light sensitive so that it does not operate during daylight. Don't forget that these lights are supplied without a power supply so you will need to get one. I measured the power consumption at 5W meaning that if you are using a 12V power supply then it will need to be able to deliver a current of at least 400mA (0.4A).

Overall, I quite liked the Univivi U03R and it is better suited to longer distances than its 48 LED counterparts. However, it is also about 50% more expensive so for short range CCTV, I still prefer the 48 LED lamps

4.0 out of 5 stars (Vivotek 720p bullet) that was never great in the dark
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 25, 2017
While its not as bright and the beam not near as wide as a Camera I have fitted at the front of my house with 4 similar sized led's built in it's still adequate for what I need it for.
I fitted this on 1 side of my house to try get some sort of a viewable image at night as the camera installed there is long overdue an upgrade, (Vivotek 720p bullet) that was never great in the dark.

I've attached a few images, the first is the side with an external porch light on, the second is the light off but the cameras internal led on, the third is with this product installed and on and the forth with the external porch light on also.

I'm very happy with the improvement and will suffice until I upgrade the camera. I'll wait and see if I'll need to continue using this when I do.
