The Billionaire Beast: A Billionaire Romance (The Billionaire Fairy Tales Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 176 ratings

An intensely sexy Billionaire Fairy Tales standalone novel by Jackie Ashenden that is billionaire romance meets Beauty and the Beast with a happily ever after.

Nero de Santis: Damaged. Bastard. Beast.

Nero hasn’t left his house in ten years. He demands the world come to him, and the world is only too happy to bend to the strong-willed billionaire. His last handful of assistants have left his house in tears, but the prim redhead applying for the job now looks up to the task. The fiery passion he senses beneath his reserved assistant’s exterior makes him want to break down the barriers he lives behind, and unleash the beast within.

Phoebe Taylor: Uptight. Misunderstood. Engaged.

Phoebe needs the obscene amount of money that comes with being Nero’s personal assistant for one thing, and one thing only—to pay for the mounting hospital costs that her fiancee’s two-year coma continues to incur. She’s heard rumors that the de Santis beast is a force that cannot be tamed—but even she isn’t prepared to handle the smoldering intensity simmering beneath his hard shell of feral dominance. And yet he is the one person to look into her eyes and see her soul.

Nero can’t help but stake his claim on this woman who has shaken up his life. He wants to keep her. He wants to devour her. And Phoebe just might let him.

Jackie Ashenden’s novels have been described as “Dark, explosive, and gritty, with a splash of dominance.” (
Publishers Weekly, starred review on In Bed with the Billionaire) and The Billionaire Beast is the ultimate combination of those unforgettable qualities.

Don’t miss the sexy Cinderella retelling:
The Billionaire’s Virgin.

Jackie has been writing fiction since she was eleven years old. Mild mannered fantasy/SF/pseudo-literary writer by day, obsessive romance writer by night, she used to balance her writing with the more serious job of librarianship until a chance meeting with another romance writer prompted her to throw off the shackles of her day job and devote herself to the true love of her heart – writing romance. She particularly likes to write dark, emotional stories with alpha heroes who've just got the world to their liking only to have it blown wide apart by their kick-ass heroines.

She lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband, the inimitable Dr Jax and two kids. When she's not torturing alpha males and their gutsy heroines, she can be found drinking chocolate martinis, reading anything she can lay her hands on, wasting time on social media, or being forced to go mountain biking with her husband.

Since two of my favorite stories of all time are Wuthering Heights and Beauty and the Beast, coupled with the erotic scenes, this novel hit all the right notes for me. I've read it twice. It also reminded me of one of those Harlequin novels of the 80s where the guy is just a bear to deal with and it's the calm, collected heroine who calms him down and gets him out of alpha snarling mode. I also liked that both characters had healing to do and their relationship arc was thoughtfully played out through conversation and careful exploration of each other's psyches and not just through mutual attraction. I'm now following this author for sure!!!

A good solid book but the H was initially difficult to like, however later on he started to redeem himself and the h was brilliant, smart, strong and loyal. With out spoilers you get to understand the reason why the H is such a #$@&#*@ sometimes and it is a very real issue for many people especially those who crave control of there environment....basically what I’m waffling on about is that the author really composed these characters well and you were hooked into them from the start, a nice modern take on Beauty & The Beast and worth reading.

Entertaining, just not into some of the scenarios in this one; certain scenes definitely weren’t needed and added nothing to the story except to annoy. I like the Beauty and the Beast aspect, but Nero needed some more sweet with that domineering attitude. I liked the whole boss/employee scenario too; a bit of the forbidden is fun, and the passion between Nero and Phoebe is scorching. There’s a bit of kink to the romance in this read. I do enjoy reading about an alpha falling to his knees for his love, but I needed more of that in this story. I liked that Phoebe stands up for herself; not always, but she’s good for Nero. Nero is dealing with a difficult past, so that definitely makes him cantankerous; he’s lucky that Phoebe knows how to put up with his attitude. I’m not huge on the whole fiancé in a coma thing; it puts Phoebe in a bad light, but I suppose it’s difficult to break up with someone in a coma. Overall, I liked the read; the connection is there between Nero and Phoebe, and I appreciate that this is a full story.

Although I generally avoid retold fairy tales, I decided to make an exception for this one, primarily because I missed reading its predecessor novel and because I think so highly of Jackie Ashenden's novels. I'm more than glad I didn't pass this one by, because it most definitely earned a 5-star rating.

Yes, this story is based on Beauty and the Beast, but you'd be hard pressed to identify it as such without the word "beast" in the title, since, in the fairy tale, the Beast is actually a beast, and the beast in this novel is just a man, albeit a demanding, obnoxious, rude, impatient, deeply troubled, angry, emotionally scarred and tortured man, who is also a beast to work for, Nero de Santis. Sadly, he hasn't the first clue as to how to deal with his issues, or even admit that he has issues, at least until the day that Phoebe Taylor, a 28-year-old British woman, shows up for an interview as his next victim in a long chain of failed personal assistants, some of the previous ones lasting less than a day in his presence and all of them fleeing his home/office in tears.

Why would anyone choose to work for a man who demands their attention and availability 24/7, 365, including living in his huge home, the merger of all the buildings contained in a city block, turning them into a number of stories and a maze of staircases, rooms and long, empty corridors, except for the walls, every one of which is filled with landscapes in every medium. Phoebe certainly has a reason for toughing it out as Nero's personal assistant--she desperately needs the six-figure salary that accompanies the job. Her fiance, Charles, was in a car accident two years earlier and has been been in a coma ever since, and the money that he and Phoebe were saving for the house they planned on buying has gone toward paying his astronomical hospital bills. She's broke, and she doesn't want to downgrade Charles' care by moving him to a lesser facility.

Prior to arriving at his home/office, Phoebe has attempted to do a little research on the reclusive billionaire, but there isn't much information available about him. There are rumors, though. Some say he hasn't left his house or been seen in public in a decade--his specialty is IT, and he can work from home. He's not quite sure what to make of quiet, sedate little Phoebe. It seems that the very behaviors that have caused previous assistant after assistant to flee his home don't seem to ruffle Phoebe's feathers, and although at first she doesn't understand why Nero expects instant gratification in all things, she slowly begins to realize the depth of his issues although she doesn't know the cause.

Phoebe has issues of her own, you see, and because she can't quit her job for the aforementioned financial issues with her comatose fiance, she eventually realizes that although their issues differ markedly, both she and Nero are broken inside, and since Phoebe is the last to admit her own problems, she considers herself to be a fixer, and certainly comes to recognize Nero's problems.

If there any constants in Jackie Ashenden's novels, it's that in addition to including very explicit sex scenes, they also feature characters who are broken and wounded in some fashion, some by troubled childhood experiences, some by abuse, some by povery--the reasons vary from novel to novel, but what sets Ms. Ashenden apart from other writers of erotic romance novels is that she also has a deep and explicit understanding of these broken and scarred souls, and the fact that a pair of such damaged individuals can often help heal each other. Although a reader might start out hating one of her "difficult" characters, something I certainly experienced upon encountering Nero in this novel, she's able to draw you inside their heads, and little by little, not only make you both feel and understand their pain, she can get you to eventually empathize with their issues to the point at which their tears become your own. It's a unique talent, and it's one of the main reasons I so love reading her novels. I think you will too.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel.

Jackie's latest story of the troubled Billionaire, Nero and his PA, Phoebe, is a marvellous read. The characters are fully realised, and deeply engaging. Nero lives up to his beastly reputation in spades, but the reasons make him a sympathetic character. Phoebe is a rescuer at heart, but no pushover and takes it right up to Nero when he misbehaves, which he does, regularly. The HEA is satisfying, and leaves a warm glow. The characters felt very human to me, like they could exist in the real world, rather than merely on a page. A highly enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one Beast you must meet! A Must-read and Unforgettable Love Story!
Reviewed in Canada on March 20, 2017
If I could, I would rate this book 10 stars, at least! This book touched my heart, mind, body and soul deeply from the first words that I read by the brilliant, unique and impactful contemporary romance author that Jackie Ashenden is. I always know that I will be entertained by Jackie's stories. However, she is more than an entertainer; she is an insanely gifted author. She makes you feel empathy, compassion, kindness and love for what seems at first two very opposite characters who shouldn't have gotten together, but against all odds, they do and she shows that they are truly meant to be together.

This book is a must-read and one of my favourite ones by Jackie so far. I fell in love with Nero and Phoebe from the beginning and I felt so much for them and what they have had to go through. This book had everything for me: a superb and unique story line, two intense and meant to be together memorable characters, rich and vivid descriptions, endless memorable lines, a beast who showed that he does have a heart of gold, and of course, your typical Jackie descriptive, hot and sensual love scenes. However, the first love scene in this book was EPIC and I am sure it fulfilled every woman's dream and fantasy.

I rarely cry over a book, but this book made me cry and made me feel so deeply. I had so many butterflies inside me while reading it and that usually means that a book is affecting me so much like this one did. I am totally shattered over it but I.LOVE.IT and wouldn't have it any other way..

Do yourselves a HUGE favour and buy this book! You won' t regret it and you'll become a huge fan of Jackie's if you aren't already. Guaranteed.

This is the year of the Beast and Nero is one beast you must meet!
