Product Description

This Medium size yarn swift is made of solid wood and finished by extra fine sanding (no toxic varnish fume). The Medium size can hold skeins up to 6-ft in circumference. It spins smoothly and makes yarn winding a fun job. The clamp-on base allows it to be firmly fixed at the edges of tables, chairs, benches, or any other convenient locations. It fits edges up to 1 3/4 Inch thick. The craftsmanship on this yarn swift is superior. We avoid wood pieces with scars or blemishes so that our yarn swifts are less vulnerable to breakage and more appealing aesthetically. The ends of metal tying wires are hidden into holes and will never hurt your hands or the yarn.

Screw cracked/broke- Stanwood customer service is excellent!

Screw cracked/broke- Stanwood customer service is excellent!
I purchased this swift less than a year ago from Amazon. Great price & fast accurate delivery. As with many of you, I bought this so that I would be able to make nice 'cakes' of yarn without having to wind the skein myself or having to solicit other household members. As some have said, the width of the opening for the swift to clamp on to a table top or counter is small. I have a little table in front of me that has my pattern instructions, ball winder & a place for the swift to clamp. The swift, once clamped, does sit high on the table and can get in the way. So, I've unscrewed the swift & put it away on many occasions where I felt my project would take a while to complete. Just last week, I tried to put my swift up only to find that the screw has cracked. I can barely get it clamped to the table & when I do, the swift is shaky because it's not tight against the table. Here are a couple of pictures. The first one is of the piece that broke off. The second is a picture taken from bottom/side of the swift table anchor.Overall, the swift has been smooth & worked excellently but for this one problem...*UPDATE* There is a replacement screw you can purchase from Stanwood for $7.95 + shipping. There is also a 1 year warranty on these swifts. I emailed Stanwood immediately after posting this review. To my surprise I got an email response from a manager within 2 hours & it's a Saturday! He promptly replied that he will be shipping out a new screw-no charge. Great customer service!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great swift
Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2012
I posted pics if you want to see more: This is my first swift and I really like it. Its well built. Its smooth. It folds down compactly. It turns smoothly for the most part, 99% smoothly. From what I have read and been told it will get smoother and smoother as you use it. I emailed the company for advice and Ryan said to add a little wax so that is what I will do. It DOES turn smoothly just to be clear- i just prefer looser-ish balls of yarn. There is only 1 yarn shop so far that does them how i LOVE but i buy my yarn from all over so they dont wind my yarn. If you are having trouble just give it a second and as you get the momentum going it rolls along nicely. The other thing i noticed was the opening to put it on the table- if you have a lot of ikea furniture (THICK) you may need to file the opening down a touch for it to fit or just find another smaller surface to attach it. As far as the size you may need..so far this has done the trick. I grabbed the longest skein i had and figured it would be too big in its circumference and it fit. This is a great buy.

Update- i updated from 4 stars to 5 because i added the wax as suggested by the company and i found a happy medium on my winding speed. Not too fast, not too slow..just wind it comfortably and the swift will keep up nicely to give you a great yarn cake.
