- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2013The story was well written with characters you can relate to. It was a fun read and hard to put down. The author kept this reader engaged throughout the novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2014Loves intensity is a beautiful combination of innocents and passion.
The author was accurate in titling this book as she depicts love as innocence and intensity as passion.
Love is selfless. It protects and accepts you as you are. And the passion between these characters just runs deeper as love is epitomized through their actions.
The author shows us that as teenagers mature to adulthood that the protection of innocence is transferred from the parents to the children. That responsibility is a constant struggle as the youths discover how to bridle their passion and emotions while remaining true to self. Being true to themselves is not acting on every feeling and emotion that they have in heated moments, but by protecting the ideals that they want for themselves and their future.
Although the characters appear naive in the beginning of the story, they were easily likable and quickly drew you in as they matured. The author also was able to show you that true passion is not unbridled but controllable, and the restraint of such feelings and emotions can honor and respect those that you love. Temperance can create even deeper passion, Intense desire, and true intimacy.
Love's Intensity was a fun read, and reminds the youths of today, that you can wait. And someone who really loves you, will be willing to wait with you.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2014Love’s Intensity by Cassandra Ulrich brings two opposing worlds together, generating a love story in the sparks that fall. Brad, the typical American rich kid, spoiled and full of himself, resists the coming of the Mexican family that has arrived at his father’s estate to help keep it up. After a stern warning from his father to stay away from the Morales’s daughter, Kressa, Brad keeps cool. But can he fight against the fates driving him and Kressa together?
A love story, with a little supernatural romance, Love’s Intensity gives the reader an understanding between two completely different characters. In addition, the story weaves in not just the romance between Brad and Kressa, but also the interactions and worries of the parents. Brad and Kressa are two fiercely independent teenagers, struggling to find their place in the world. A love story doesn’t always find its way under such conditions, but when it does, imagine the worry a parent would feel.
While I appreciate hearing other sides of a story, the oftentimes rapid shifting between characters left my mind racing. The book read quickly enough, and the POV shifts are marked by page breaks, still I found myself struggling to figure out whose head I was in. The story between Brad and Kressa is what drives the book.
All in all, Love’s Intensity keeps a sturdy pace and should be an enjoyable read for anyone in search of a good love story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2013Brad Natli, age 16, loves fast horses, fast cars, and his motorcycle. Living on a ranch in the middle of Massachusetts with his dad and step-mom, he isn't prepared for the family from Mexico City his dad hires to work as servants at their home.
Kressa Morales just turned 15. Her dad lost his job. Her mom gets an offer to work in the States, an offer for the whole family to work at the same ranch where Kressa's mom had worked when she was young. Kressa doesn't want to move away from her home and friends, and her dad doesn't either, but they have no choice.
Brad's dad and Kressa's mom were best friends when they were kids. Brad's step-mom isn't too thrilled with that fact, and neither is Kressa's dad. Everyone needs this business agreement to work, however, so everyone is on their best behavior...mostly.
Brad doesn't want to be on his best behavior. Torn between strict orders and conflicting emotions, it's tough. One of the things that's bothering him is that his friends would not approve of his deepening attraction to Kress.
Kress's dad doesn't either, approve that is, of anything or anybody. Brad's step-mom is acting kind of strange too. Jealousy runs rampant in this convoluted story, leading to all sorts of serious problems, even with Brad's friends.
Add to that danger at school for Kressa, Brad's attempts at becoming a ninja, and his dad's heart problem. You get the idea.
LOVE'S INTENSITY is indeed an intense drama that spins out long enough to wile away an entire afternoon's reading. In the writing style of Mommy-Lit, you get each character's minute by minute experiences---sometimes even overlapping---so you don't miss a detail.
This book is recommended for young adult Christian readers.
