In most office / dining room / folding / utility style chairs, my lower back gets sore after sitting for between 10 to 90 minutes, and is usually very bad after a full day. I simply couldn't repeat this for more than 2 days without severe pain, or worse, "throwing my back out". If my back was already bad, I simply couldn't sit.
With this kneeling chair, I am comfortable for between 2 and 4 hours without standing at all, and if I take a quick stretch break every hour or so, I can last all day, usually with no pain, and only minor discomfort. If my back is sore to begin with, I take more breaks and that can make a full day of sitting possible, and prevents it from getting worse. Huge difference. HUGE!
If there was a 4.5 star rating, that would be more accurate, but for the price, 5 stars is fair. The comfort aspect, which is all I really care about is a solid 5 stars. Looks and build quality would be 4 stars. Some of the chairs I tested locally were built better, and some looked better. None of them felt right. I bought this out of desperation. Out of work for a few days, back terrible, couldn't even drive, out flat in pain and feeling bad for myself. Whaaaaa! I ordered this thinking that even if it helps just a little, it would be worth it. I have never had anything exceed my expectations like this. I know I sound like a shill, but I really can't put into words how happy I am with this chair. There may be better choices, there may be better deals, this might fall apart tomorrow. I don't know. All i can say is that after 4 months with it, I couldn't be happier.
Looks good, fairly light, easy enough to assemble (don't assemble wearing nice clothes-some black grease on adjustment assembly might get you), and easily adjusted (some what limited in what you can adjust, but works great for me). I tried a few different "knee" chairs locally and wasn't impressed with the sitting positions or the $150+ price tags.
First of all, you have to learn how to sit in it. You don't place your body weight on your knees. You sit on your buttocks as you normally do. Your knees rest slightly on their pads. A big part of my recovery was learning to sit in lumbar extension (chest up and out, lower back slightly arched.) One of my problems is that for years I walk around hunched slightly. I don't do that anymore. I'm extended through the front of my torso and keep my shoulders back.
The chair is just fine for me. The "memory foam" is a bit of a misnomer. It seems like soft foam to me and it doesn't provide a tremendous amount of cushion. But it provides enough. I sit for hours on end in it without needing to get up. That says a great deal. The chair is mechanically solid and was fairly easy to assemble.
I'm 5 feet 10 inches and weigh 195 lbs. The chair fits me fine. I have a longer torso and shorter legs than some. I've had no problems with the chair and would buy it again without question.
If you have lumbar disc problems, it may be because the development of your posterior chain (hamstrings-glutes-lower back) is unbalanced. In my case, my hams and glutes were weak relative to my lower back. The latter was carrying too much load. The minute I figured that out, I was able to cure myself in a month. I recommend investing in Mark Rippetoe's "Starting Strength" book. Learn to do barbell squats properly, along with overhead presses and deadlifts. That's what fixed me, and fixed me quickly, contrary to the advice of doctors and physical therapists, on whom I wasted a fair amount of money over a nine-month period. And, whatever you do, don't do situps or anything that encourages joint friction in your spine. Barbell training, done properly, will change your life dramatically for the better. I guarantee it. Done improperly it will incapacitate you. So be careful, of course.
1 – You definitely can't slouch sitting in this chair.
2 – It did relieve pressure on my low back..
3 – The quality is quite good.
4 – The assembly is easy and quick.
OH BUT THE CONS!
There was absolutely no adjustment I could find that was comfortable. When I adjusted it to a height that was appropriate for using my keyboard, my knees were bent at an extreme angle and my weight was not on my knees but on my shins. My legs cramped and the lower edge of the knee pads dug into my shins. At a much higher adjustment, which was only slightly more comfortable and still produced the same negative effects on my legs, just not as quickly, I was much too high to reach the keyboard comfortably. Obviously this chair works for some people but it definitely DID NOT work for me. BTW I'm 6 feet tall and 240 pounds (not too heavy, just too short) if that is a factor that will help you decide.
Top reviews from other countries
It shipped internationally in four days, took me 10 minutes to assemble, and is more comfortable than I thought it would be. The cushions truly are memory foam. I had read that some chairs have the problem of having uncomfortable knee pads due to the way they are secured to the frame, but this one is great.
As a student, this was a smart purchase. The only thing I didn't anticipate about using a kneeling chair is that my feet swell a bit if I sit for too long! I have bad circulation anyways, so maybe I should invest in some compression socks next.
I am a tall guy, so I tend to have tall person low back problems when it comes to sitting in regular office chairs. Being a full-time mature student, I do a lot of sitting which can be hard on the back, so I was on a mission to find an ergonomic chair that helped to keep me spine properly aligned. I must preface this slightly to let you know that I did ergonomic assessments in a previous job role, so I am familiar with office ergonomics.
At first, I was a little hesitant about purchasing a kneeling chair as I knew very little about them. I ended up doing a bunch of research and I found that kneeling chairs are great for keeping the natural curve in the lower spine area (lumbar region). My problem is that I don’t use my core muscles enough, so I figured this would be a good way of training my body to keep my spine straight when sitting (not to slouch).
It took a bit of getting used to, but I found this chair to be really comfortable. I liked that the seat was easily adjustable underneath, and that it had caster wheels on the bottom for easy moving of the chair.
The seat foam isn’t terrible, but it is not great. What I mean is that it’s not very thick, so your it causes pressure points on your butt after awhile. I solved this by putting one of my patio chair cushions on the seat, which seemed to help a lot.
I did find that after several months the chair started squeaking any time you moved/adjusted your body on it. While it’s not really a big deal, it is a bit annoying to listen to.
The knee/shin rests were comfortable, and I did not have any issues with pressure points, so that was a relief as it was a slight concern of mine.
One thing to note is that the chair fabric is very porous, so if you spill any liquids on it, the fabric will suck that up very fast and go into the sponge underneath. Might be worth it to put a towel or something on the seat when you’re sitting on it as there is no way to clean the seat because it does not detach.
My final thoughts on this chair are that it is a great starter kneeling chair for someone on a budget. The chair is pretty cheap cost wise, and it does show that in its construction; however, it is still a good deal for what you get as it lasted me over two years.
I ended up retiring my kneeling chair and switched it out for a stability ball, which I actually have come to prefer.
I hope you found my review helpful 👍
