Running Out of Rain (Prime Of Love Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 89 ratings

Eventually, all storms break for a little sunshine.

Dr. Cynthia Ellender is devastated when her husband of thirty-three years dies suddenly. A revelation at his funeral leaves her bitter, angry, and determined to leave Oklahoma for good. Maybe a move back to her hometown in south Louisiana is just the right prescription for the good doctor.

John Michael Ferguson has weathered some serious storms in his fifty-three years. At sixteen he lost a sister, and at thirty-nine, a wife. Now, he’s forced to watch his mom lose her battle with Alzheimer's. A chance meeting with “Cyn” has the semi-retired businessman wanting to bury his past and look to the future. Armed with questionable advice from his wise-cracking, seventy-seven year old father, he vacates the “widower’s bench” to re-enter the dating world with his old classmate.

RUNNING OUT OF RAIN is a mature love story that proves just because there’s a little silver in the hair doesn’t mean the pump isn’t primed for passion.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...It takes a talented writer to pave a story with believable characters involved in everyday events without heaps of drama and billionaire boyfriends, and still captivate the reader. There's at least two generations of women who will love this story." ~ (5 Stars) Amazon Customer

"Leger is carving a niche for herself with this one and like Justin Timberlake did for the younger crowd, she is doing for the 50 and olders. She's bringing sexy back! Well done.~ (5 Stars) Kim Hornsby, Award Winning Author

"...The story is a sweet and enjoyable look at starting over and learning to love again. The writing is smooth and the characters were very well developed...." ~ InD'tale Magazine

From the Author

Who says people in their forties and fifties aren't as passionate and romantic as the younger generation? What woman out there hasn't swooned a little at the long, slow drawls of Matthew Mcconaughey or Sam Elliot? The characters in my new silver fox series know what they want out of life and love...and with experience from years of living, loving, and losing...they know just how to get it. Hope you enjoy "Running Out Of Rain", Book One in my Prime of Love series.

Award winning author, Lori Leger, adores writing stories set in southwest Louisiana, where good Cajun cooking, helping your neighbors, and saying ‘y’all’ is as normal as hurricanes, heat, and humidity. She has fourteen full-length novels, and five short stories published in four series: La Fleur de Love, its spin-off, Halos & Horns, Seasons of Love, Prime of Love series, one stand-alone Christmas suspense published with The Wild Rose Press, and two more in production and if God is willing, more to come.

She’s contributed to the Sweet & Savory Cookbook of Amazon Authors, published by Top Ten Press. Lori also has an article published in the non-fiction book Writing After Retirement: Tips From Retired Writers, published by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers, and edited and compiled by Carol Smallwood and Christine Redman-Waldeyer.

Her fourth novel in the Halos & Horns series, “One Year to Forever” won 2015 Romance Novel of Excellence award from InD’tale Review magazine.

I rarely give reviews, but this one hit home with me. There is such a great balance of characters in this book, from the "Young" at heart, to the "Golden" years era, that you find yourself relating to them all. It truly warms the heart with family love, but also with heartbreak, as it deals with the declining health of a parent. In the mix is included a heated romance with Cynthia and John who are ready to let go of the past and find love again. My favorite.... is the great humor and advice from good "old" dad, who feels the need to say whatever is on his mind. Believe me, this will have you laughing and blushing at the same time. This book is well written and definitely a good read for anyone.

Just finished Running Out of Rain as I sit with a smile of contentment at such a fabulous read! Thank goodness someone finally gets it.....YYYYEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!! thank u Lori Leger for having the guts to show the world that over 55 DOES NOT MEAN DEATH in the romance department!!
This story was so enjoyable. From the first page I became so wrapped up in the story that I could not put it down. This charming and exciting romance dealt with the broken heart of a betrayed spouse after years of "good" marriage, the pain of losing a loved one to illness and death, the joy and the plastered facial big grins that suddenly the daily norm from finding new love, the challenges of parenthood along with the blessings of being a mom or dad. Whatever you have planned for your day or week, don't let it pass without reading this book. It will remind you the little blessings we sometimes take for granted in life. Laughing out loud often should not be a surprise. Grab a hand full of tissues because it is a heart twisting story as well. This is one I hated to see end but oh how excited I am to read the new follow up release!!! Hope you enjoy this talented author too!

I very much enjoyed reading this book. Miss Leger is the Queen of writing emotion and family drama in one delightful package. Although the main characters are a bit older than her previous books, the romance and the family story hasn't dimenished. In fact, the humor has escalated with the addition of a crusty senior who is adorable. Keep your box of tissues handy as you'll have tears in your eyes---either from deep emotion or laughing too much. I look forward to the next book in this series. Well done, Miss Leger!!

I love Lori Leger's writing style. I have every one of her books, and will continue to buy any she writes. Her style of writing makes me care about these people, they feel like old friends. Lori weaves her stories with beautiful descriptions, I can see her characters, hear the music playing, taste the foods she describes and feel the emotions her books portray. There's always a point in her books that I have tears streaming down my face because she can describe each emotion and struggle that it touches my soul. The next page might have me laughing out loud, or nodding my head knowingly agreeing with what her characters say or feel. Once again an amazing storyteller leaves me waiting for her next book.

Mrs. Lori's new series about a more mature couple is amazing. Just because one stage of your life is over does not mean you have to stop living or loving. One of my favorite parts is when J.D gives John Michael the list of pick up lines. That was very entertaining!
I felt every emotion along with the characters. They become friends and I look forward to catching up with when the next book comes out.

A beautifully crafted Seasoned Romance where the main characters get a second chance at love, late in life. The characters are great and the Cajun phrases etc really add to the book. There's a twist involving two generations of the same family, and a beautifully handled part about Alzheimer's. This is the first novel I've read by Lori and I'll be getting the rest of the series.

I really looked forward to reading this book. So few romances are about older couples, so if you're about that age yourself, well, you just have to read it.
As this couple were in their early fifties with grown-up children, the story did reflect their journey through life quite well. Their pasts were well and adequately explored, so that you understand who they are and how they got to the present.

The dialogue between John Michael and his Father was so good I laughed out loud and couldn't wait until the next time they were together. In some ways the older, old generation were the best bits. A novel about John David and Bess would be a winner.
I hate reviews which virtually tell the story, as I want to read it myself, so I try not to do that. So this is well worth reading, but be aware it's American and set in the South, so although it has Southern charm, it also has lots of words, phrasing and sayings that are not used elsewhere. It doesn't annoy too much, as most you can guess at the meaning fairly well, for that reason I've only given 3 stars instead of the 4 that otherwise the book deserved.
