Product Description
The SRS100LX temperature and humidity radiation shield is a low cost solution for protecting temperature and relative humidity sensors. It consists of nine molded plastic plates and an UV inhibited ABS plastic mounting arm. The wedge-shaped plates provide maximum airflow around the sensor while at the same time minimizing direct exposure to sunlight. The passive shield is shaped to allow natural air convection around the sensor so that the air temperature inside the shield is a good representation of the outside air. The shield also provides protection from rain and snow.
The SRS100LX radiation shield fits most temperature and humidity sensors sold by Ambient Weather. Order the SRS100 for smaller sensor installations (reference dimensions below).
The SRS100LX is designed with a highly reflective white surface to reflect the sun's direct radiation. The multi-plate design allows for maximum airflow. The UV inhibited ABS plastic mounting arm can be mounted to any vertical surface. U-Bolts are included to mount to any pole.
Compatible Sensors*: RTGR328NA, TX50U-IT, TX13U, TX6U, TX7U, TX4U, TX18U, TX8U, TX9U, WS2010-22, WS2010-25, WS2010-28, WS2310-25, TX21U-IT, TX25U-IT, TX27U-IT, TX28U-IT, TX29U-IT, TX37U-IT, TX29UDTH-IT, TX22U-IT, and other sensors from different manufacturers are also compatible with the SRS100
*Some sensors require the removal of mounting bracket or aesthetic covers to fit within the inner cavity of the SRS100 (WxLxH): 2.5" x 4.3" x 7.4".

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers are satisfied with the accuracy of the product. They mention that it makes temperature readings more accurate, even in direct sunlight. Some say that it has stabilized temperature swings and that the sun has zero effect on the product's accuracy.

Customers find the temperature shield easy to assemble. They appreciate the good instructions and that all the necessary pieces are included.

Customers are mixed about the quality of the product. Some mention that it performs well, has good marks for reliability, and is well made. However, others say that the plastic mounting bracket is very flimsy and likely to break in a severe storm. The bracket sags substantially under the weight of the XL sensor housing and did in fact break.

Customers are mixed about the value of the weather station. Some mention it's the best for the price and well worth the investment, while others say it'd be better off buying a different product.

Customers are dissatisfied with the flexability of the product. They mention that the wind flexes the mount so they expect it to crack in time. The shield is so massive that it flex downward on the bracket. They also say that there is not enough wind action to keep everything cooled to air temperature.
"...The T-Post is not the problem. The shield's bracket is what is flexing. Likely the top plate is also insufficient in strength...." Read more

Not sure how it would work if it was in the sun all day long, I only have sun on my thermometer in the morning and afternoon.
I had given up fixing this issue and then found this product online, bought it on a whim, SO glad I did, I now have accurate temperatures all day long! The only thing I am going to do is buy three lock washers to put beneath the three wing nuts just to give a little reassurance that things will not loosen up.
My biggest question before buying this is if it would work with other company's sensors. I didn't find much information on this but yes it does. I am using it with my Lacrosse sensor. It appears that my other sensors would fit in there just fine too. So, YES, this will work with many different sensors. I am loving this thing. I hope this review helps someone.
I have other temperature sensors located in other areas outside of the building and I have access to temperature readings from weather stations in the surrounding area. The readings I'm getting from the Oregon Scientific sensor inside the Ambient SRS100XL are right on the money, even when the sun is shining on the shield. I highly recommend this excellent product.
Sure enough, after a couple years in the wind, the bracket did in fact break. So for the past several years, I have had to wire it to my T-Post. By year 6, it was severely sun rotted and had to be thrown out.
Assembly wasn't hard at all, but assembling and installing my Ambient Weather WS-1090 Wireless Home Weather Station w/ Data Logging & Atomic Time was easier and took less time than this radiation shield. It came with a lot of extra and unneeded screw and nuts (I have no idea why they were included). I wasn't satisfied with how my sensor sat inside so I changed it a bit, velcroing it to the post inside with the zip ties stabilizing it.
The whole thing does sag just a bit, I taped a piece of wood to my post so it wouldn't hit and rub on the metal.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with it. It makes readings more accurate and is a good buy. Well, $40 may have been a little much...
