Built Strong
Not just any charge cable, DuraTek was forged from quality materials for ultimate durability. Aramid fibers reinforce the inner wiring for added strength, abrasion-resistant nylon forms a tough outer jacket, and highly flexible insulation minimizes damage from friction. The strength created by these resilient ingredients is further enhanced by smart design details to reinforce the cable at its stress points.
- Made for Lightning devices, including iPhone, iPad and AirPods
Key Features
1. Aramid fiber is used as a reinforcing agent to strengthen the conductors and enhance protection
2. Drain wiring helps with added protection
3. Insulated conductors reduce friction while creating added flexibility and protection
4. Shield-braid and metalized Mylar shielding help to protect the cable from external electro magnetic interference
5. Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) cable jacket is soft, and pliable
6. Double-braided nylon exterior is abrasion resistant, reducing fraying and lasting longer

Hidden StrengthOne of the key ingredients of DuraTek’s extraordinary strength is the use of Aramid fibers. This super-strong material is also used to reinforce protective clothing, and strengthen products, like tennis racquets and surfboards, where durability is key. Able to flex without stretching, Aramid strands are built into DuraTek cables, providing a structure that protects the wires inside from damage. |
Flexible InsulationInside the cable, many wires co-exist to provide better functionality and connectivity. Insulation protects the wires from damage as the cable bends and flexes, but some can cause stiffness, affecting the overall suppleness of the cable. The highly flexible insulation within DuraTek minimizes friction, allowing the cable to bend easily and the wires within to move without damage. |
Strain ReliefThe strain relief—where the cable joins the connector head—is longer than that found on other cables. Made from flexible TPE, this added length and flexibility helps to absorb stress and reinforce the juncture between the cable and the connector head to prevent separation. |

I drive a Chevy Traverse and love that it comes with a USB port built into the car; however, there is a design flaw in it's location. The USB port is in the center dash compartment and either the phone stays in the compartment with lid close, or I drive with the lid open, or I close the lid on the cable so I can see my phone. The latter is how I use it and my current cable became damaged. I knew I needed something with a different material surrounding the wires and found the solution, so far, with this cable.
Most people will not use the cable for that purpose, but I would still recommend it to others. It's flexible but also holds its shape. The ends are sturdy and thick due to the aluminum casing. It is slightly longer than the cable that came with my iPhone 6. It also charges just as fast as the standard issued cable. The rose gold is a soft pink and the perk to having this color is I don't have to worry about the guys taking it.
*Edit 3/23/2017: After receiving this product, I also purchased the Amazon Basic equivalent for a family member. I can confidently say that the Belkin's quality is far superior and it's worth the extra money to purchase this charging cable.

It measures 9” longer than the OEM cable. I bent and tugged at both ends quite a bit, and all the connections looked strong. I plugged it into my phone, and it began charging without a problem. The aluminum casing at the connector was a bit thicker than the OEM cable, but it had no problem fitting through the opening in my phone’s aftermarket case.
The braided nylon jacket on the cable feels substantial, and I like the "extra-long strain relief...tested to withstand over 5000+ cycles during 180-degree cable bend test." (The strain relief is located where the connector meets the cable; it looks like a sleeve over the cable). My original cable began to fray right at the end of the strain relief, where the cable exits, so this area is definitely a weak spot in the original design. Comparing the strain relief on each end of the Belkin to the standard cable, they look stronger and much more substantial. See my pics.
My one nitpick is the ad copy doesn't explain how putting Kevlar inside the cable (rather than, say, using it as the jacket) makes the cable stronger. It also doesn't say how the braided nylon jacket is any better than the jacket on the standard cable (though it does call it "abrasion-resistant.") Only time will tell how well this cable holds up, though it looks and feels more substantial than the one that came with the phone. I will update my review if there are problems.

The exterior is a flexible nylon material - reminiscent of shoe strings for boots- and it protects well without getting snagged (by cat claws). Unlike other cables with a braided protective layer, this one has movement and flexibility. Others are extremely rigid and difficult to maneuver into difficult spaces.
Let's talk about the protection for the lightening and USB ends. Usually, my cords bust right at the connection with the USB or the lightening side. The protective coating cracks and exposes the wiring, making them no longer safe to use. (Try it and your iPhone will not recognize it. Apple is too smart for my wallet.)
Both ends have an aluminum shield, then a much longer rubber cover that eventually molds down into the nylon cord. (See photo) This helps protect the cord from breaking at the connectors - which always happens after continued use. Add to that the flexibility of the nylon cord and you have a cord that won't break easily.
No issues connecting, or with having the iPhone recognize this cord.
I took photos to compare this to the StarTech cord I recently received from Amazon Vine. While I think StarTech is a good medium-quality brand, I would pay the money for this Belkin cord for the extra quality and durability. The StarTech just looks cheap next to this one.

The only reason I'm giving them a four is that
1.I haven't has them long enough for a true stress test;
2. Amazon doesn't allow one to re-rate over time; and
3. I'm tired of Amazon asking me to rate the item.
If Amazon wanted an honest response, they'd allow ratings over time for items sold at a higher-price point because the item clains to offer loon-term durability.
