More Alternative Truths: Stories from the Resistance Kindle Edition
This exploration defines this anthology. So many of the stories ask what has America become? What will it be in the future? Will it devolve into a Russian style oligarchy, or will we rise to the challenge and use our hearts, our minds and our votes to return to a rational democracy, of, by, and for the people. No one knows for sure. But these top-tier talented authors from around the world, from Philip Brian Hall to Bruno Lombardi to Jane Yolen give us their visions.
You will find the witticisms of Jim Wright exploring Donald Trump as Moses after presentation of the Ten Commandments. The mental genius of Edd Vick and Manny Frishberg as they give us Trump, tweeting his way across the solar system. There is much to laugh about.
There are serious visions as well. Brad Cozzens’s brilliant poem “America Once Beautiful” reaches poignantly from today’s reality into some salvageable vision of tomorrow that borrows from yesterday’s values. The poets in this volume, be they Brad, Jane Yolen, Gwyndyn T. Alexander or C.A. Chesse, bring new meanings to words and leave you thoughtful.
If you want a fun romp, jump to “Wishcraft.com,” by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, as she explores how important it is that political hacks not annoy witches. Or, if you prefer, K.G. Anderson’s, “The Right Man for the Job,” in which a post-corporeal LBJ rides to the rescue.
There is something for everyone. Coping. How do we cope? This painful question is explored by three of our best and brightest. Jill Zeller, a woman who won’t write of Elves, has given us “A Woman Walks Into a Bar,” an affirmation of our own choices. Coping is also explored brilliantly by Karin L. Frank and Kerri Leigh Grady in their stories “HMO” and “Final Delivery.”
There are so many more great stories in this collection, I can truly recommend them all. If, however, you can only read one, then read “Small Courages,” and let it touch you, maybe bring tears of hope, as you see our world through the eyes of a child and find that we can survive. We will survive.

About the authors
Altogether I've written and collaborated on 38 novels, 22 solo and 16 in collaboration with the fabulous Anne McCaffrey.
Among my solo novels is THE HEALER'S WAR, the 1989 Nebula Award winner for best novel, loosely based on my experiences as a nurse in Vietnam.
I have also written a traditional, though humorous, 4-book fantasy series, SONGS FROM THE SEASHELL ARCHIVES, a feminist Arabian Nights fantasy, two fantasies set in the Wild West and the Yukon Goldrush respectively, my obligatory science fiction writer's apocalypse book and the sequel, both set in Tibet, and three books about folk music and magic that made a big hit with the Library of Congress Folk Music Archives, which I blew up in the first book. Three of my books are about fairy godmothers, one is about Christmas and computers, one features Sir Walter Scott in a Victorian gothic mystery set in Edinburgh, and two are about Queen Cleopatra as the living "Past life" of two different women.
My latest is a family-centered satirical series of "purranormal mysteries" featuring Spam, an enterprising orange tabby. In SPAM VS THE VAMPIRE, Spam's guardian, Darcy, suddenly disappears, leaving him and his 14 feline housemates alone with full litter boxes and empty kibble dishes. Although he has never been outside the house before, Spam makes a daring escape during a break-in and seeks information about Darcy, who was last seen in the company of a vampire she met on the internet. The next adventure in the series is a seasonal novelette, FATHER CHRISTMAS, in which Spam learns what Christmas is to the wild animals in his neighborhood and also has an opportunity to get acquainted with his own dead-beat dad. The most recently published is THE TOUR BUS OF DOOM or Spam and The Zombie Apocalyps-o, in which Spam's home town is invaded by zombies under the influence of a power-hungry zombie master. Scaring Spam's friends at Elevated Ice Cream is bad enough but when the zombies put the hoodoo on his pals at SeaJ's fish'n'chips, the situation becomes intolerable.
9 TALES O' CATS and SHIFTY are both collections of my previously published short stories.

Jill Zeller is a Left Coast writer, 2nd generation Californian, retired registered nurse, and obsessed gardener. She lives in Oregon with her patient husband, 2 silly English mastiffs and 2 rescue cats—the silliest of all.
I learned to love science fiction at the knee of my grandmother, listening to her read authors like Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E. Howard during my childhood in rural Kentucky. My life has always been heavily influenced by strong women. My mother first among them: raising three boys after the death of my father, with grace and wit. There were always women coming and going in our house, friends, family, folks who needed a hand, and folks who had one to lend. All of my life has been steeped in the stories of average people doing extraordinary things -- and most of them were women. That is why I was drawn to the character Sarah in my new novel. She embodies all the strength of the women who have influenced me over the years.
I can't remember a time I wasn't absorbing and creating story. I read early, and became a regular at my local library. There for a while, I thought the coolest thing in the world would be to grow up and be a librarian. I even got the degree. Once I hit the workforce, I discovered how poorly most librarians are paid, and I ended up in high tech instead.
But I live my life surrounded by books and story. Selling my own tales still comes as a surprise to me. The characters and worlds I build have been given loving care by some pretty spectacular editors. I've been very lucky. I continue to launch my words into the world, for all to read if they have the mind. I just hope you are entertained in the process. The opportunities for you to read my work has just gotten even better.
Tor Publishing has agreed to purchase the first three books in my Black Blade series. The first -- BLACK BLADE BLUES -- comes out in trade paperback and hardback April 27th, 2010.
Of course, if you want a sneak peak on the novel, you can read the short story which launched it all in the DAW anthology Swordplay, edited by Denise Little. It was released June 2, 2009.
My other short fiction can be found in such fine magazines as Fortean Bureau, Talebones magazine (issue 36 and forthcoming in issue 39) as well as two additional DAW anthologies Zombie Raccoons and Killer Bunnies (Oct 2009), and The Trouble with Heroes (Nov 2009).
I have a BA in English and a Masters of Library Science from University of Kentucky. In addition, I am a graduate of the Oregon Coast Writers Workshops with Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith. When I'm not writing, you can find me practicing martial arts with my children or spending time with my lovely wife.
I am a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
Kerri-Leigh Grady loves to sink into happily-ever-after tales, especially when her testosterone-loaded house has hit its monthly limit of athletic socks and slapstick. She holds an MFA from Seton Hill University and a BS in computer science. She's a nerd with an unnatural love of dark humor, gadgets, chickpeas, animals (not that kind of unnatural), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, terrible acrylic landscapes, bad poetry, and silversmithing. Don’t worry—she owns lots of fire extinguishers. www.klgrady.com

Bruno Lombardi was born in Montreal in 1968. He has had a rather distressing tendency to be a weirdness magnet for much of his adult life. If your friend's cousin's brother-in-law tells you a story and swears it's true and that it 'happened to someone he knows', it was probably Bruno.
His hobbies include attempting to dissuade the cults that form around him and managing the betting pool on the next Weird Thing. He currently lives in Ottawa and works as a civil servant for the Canadian government. Rumours that he secretly runs the Canadian government from his nuclear bunker with an android called 'Justin Trudeau' as a front have never been substantiated and are merely rumours. Honestly.
He has also met lots of people off the internet and has yet to be murdered by any of them.
"Snake Oil," published by Daverana Enterprises, is his first published novel. A second edition of "Snake Oil," published by Martinus Publishing, is now available.

Yorkshireman Philip Brian Hall is a graduate of Oxford University. A former diplomat and teacher, at one time or another he's stood for parliament, sung solos in amateur operettas, rowed at Henley Royal Regatta, completed a 40 mile cross-country walk in under 12 hours and ridden in over one hundred steeplechase horse races.
He's had short stories published in the USA and Canada as well as the UK and some of them are freely available on line.
Philip's novel, The Prophets of Baal, is available both in paperback and as an e-book. The exciting occult story is set in rural England, Jersey and the treacherous sea in between them.
Philip lives on a small farm in Scotland.
Gwyndyn T. Alexander (1969- )was born in San Francisco, but moved to New Orleans and never looked back. In 2005, she lost her house and job and her library to the Great Levee Failure. In April of 2006, she moved into exile in Austin, and finally returned to her beloved New Orleans in 2015. She survived an abusive childhood, and transmuted her experiences into art. She is a feminist activist and strong proponent for LGBT+ rights.
Poet as Ariadne
He's gone too far
in this dearly-bought adventure.
His fate was a crown, power, kingdoms,
traded in for a future
of intrigue, bulls, and blood.
Arrogance claimed him to a place as tribute...
favored by the gods, but
only a woman could give him his glory.
Traitor to my father, king, and god,
I took the secret ways
known only to women,
and brought down an empire for love.
He left me, of course,
claimed the victory alone.
So let the men cheer, and toast him
with celebratory wine.
We women know the truth of things...
our secret history
written in blood from our hearts
on spider silk.
We know the truth
of heroes.
-- Gwyndyn T. Alexander copyright 2015

Melinda LaFevers is a renaissance woman who believes in learning enough about anything she is interested in well enough to teach the basics to someone else.
She firmly believes in arts integrated education as being the best way to teach every child, and has presented professional development workshops to teachers on that topic.
As a historic interpreter and demonstrator, she presents "Life in a Log Cabin" and "Life in a Castle" to schools, including hands on activities, songs, stories, and music.
Her three favorite quotes:
1) Build your castles in the air. That is where they belong. Now - build the foundations.
2) Yesterday is set in stone and cannot be changed. Tomorrow is veiled in mist, and cannot be known. We only have Today. But Today, well lived, makes every Yesterday a memory of joy, and every Tomorrow a vision of hope.
3) When you stop learning, you start to die.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2017A collection of short stories that deal with the question of what it means to be "American" and what do we want our national identity to be. Each story was engaging and thought provoking.
Sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, but always entertaining.
Definitely would recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2017This book is pretty incredible. The foreword helps set an ominous tone for the stories that follow. As I keep working my way through the book, I’ll attempt to update my review. This go-around for Alternative Truths is pretty heavy handed in its political outlook, but the editors did a great job spacing tough stories so you don’t put the book down feeling too hopeless. There’s poetry, too.
Give it a go! You won’t be disappointed. But even if you are, you’ve supported some great authors.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2017This is an awesome collection of poems and stories, from some of the best writers in speculative fiction. From Jane Yolen's lighthearted poem, "No Tanks," to Kerri-Leigh Grady's heartbreaking "Final Delivery," these short works express with chilling perfection the gloom so many Americans are feeling. They offer hope, too, and we all need that. The subtitle of the collection is "Stories from the Resistance," and that's just what they are--and deeply satisfying.

This has an all-star line up of veteran, and new-comer writers, all magnificent at what they do, in their own ways. Some parts will make you giggle, some parts will make you nod your head in agreement. Others will paint for you the outcome of dreary picture that we are seeing literally unfold before our eyes in this new, bold, scary future being put together by our current "administration."
No matter which emotion and thought it provokes for you as its reader, this book is worth way more than its listed for. Missing out on it would a tragedy.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018Thinking is good. Feeling is good. Thinking about what we feel is great. These stories deliver thought-provoking, heart-felt experiences that we all need in the current age of resentment, rage, and irrationality.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2018Such variety of responses, so much to love . . . my favorite right now is "Wishcraft.com" by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, which mixes modern tech with three (or more) favorite fairy/folk tales into a perfect parable for our times. "HMO" brought me to tears, and Jane Yolen's poems empower.
I have more to read, but I've already, as my father used to say "gotten my money's worth." Bravo and brava, brave writers! <3

5.0 out of 5 stars Much needed relief from Trump times.
Another great collection of Trump stories. Again, the collection is diverse in style, making some of the stories hit & miss. But on the whole, there's more than enough great stories to make this book worth reading for Trump anti-fans.
