Customers like the performance of the pet supplies. For example, they say it works well for their husky, does the job in a much gentler way, and is affordable, effective, and comforting to their dogs. The comb works very well on their son's large, short haired dog, and the double row brush works even better, partly because the top row of teeth are longer. Customers are also impressed with the double-row brush, saying it is easy to hold and very kind to the dog. They say it tends to massage their skin as it's pulling out the "dead" shedding fur, and reduces any discomfort for their dog.

The rake did a fair job of removing a lot of that old hair. Her coat was SO thick with that two year accumulation that it wasn't as easy as I'd hoped to pull it through, but it does work and the handle is comfortable for extended use. (I'm actually still working on her coat) The tines on this rake are fairly sharp, so care must be taken not to dig in too hard.
Here's the best part: my three barn cats were shedding like crazy, so I thought I'd give it a try on them too. As advertised, the tines rotate as you are using the rake, so there is a little noise involved. Nothing much, just a little rattling as you stroke. The cats were a bit wary of the sound but within about 30 seconds of starting to groom them, they would roll over and over, purring. They don't like it on their tails or their back legs on the "thighs", but even without brushing these areas I'd bet I got enough "wool" off of these cats to make a new living room rug! LOL!! Now, I just walk out the back door and shake the brush to make the tines rattle and they all appear, wanting to be brushed.
I was so impressed with the way this brush worked on my dog and the cats, that I decided I'd try it out on the horses' manes and tails. I thought it seemed sturdy enough to go through horse hair, so I put it to the test. Horse mane and tail hair is very coarse and not very easy to brush through unless you've used an expensive product similar to creme rinse on it. I just acquired a two year old who had been out to pasture most of his life and his mane and tail were a mess. Again, the rattle of the tines was of small concern at first, but as soon as he discovered the benefits of this brush, he ignored the sound. (I think he liked the feel of it against his neck) I was amazed that this rake removed the knots with a minimal amount of hair loss in the process. It was time consuming, but I started at the bottom and worked up, and it got everything smoothed out. Again, the handle was comfortable for prolonged heavy duty use. I inspected the tines afterwards and they were intact and still rotating freely. The horses also love being "scratched" with this brush in their itchy places that they can't reach on their own.
The rake needed cleaning after all of this and it's all metal and plastic construction. I just scrubbed it with an old nail brush and some warm, soapy water, shook it a couple of times, and put it outside to dry. Easy. Looks like new.
Thank you Amazon for offering this quality product at an excellent price. I love this thing! If it ever wears out, I will have another one by the following week.
After seeing the rave reviews on the Furminator, I priced them at Petsmart and Petco and was shocked to see a $50 price tag! I ended up buying one via Amazon for $26 which saved me nearly 50% over PetsMart and Petco. While the Furmintaor works, it works on the principle of "gently" pulling out the loose hairs of the undercoat. The problem is that the Furminator is more of a short-tooth comb that grabs onto the hair and pulls out whatever hairs the teeth happen to grab onto, thereby pulling out more than just the loose undercoat hairs. In fact, being that it's a short-tooth comb, it doesn't get deep into the coat as it needs to, and ends up pulling out a lot of the topcoat, too. You have to use a lot of firm strokes to get past the topcoat, yet the instructions say to use gentle strokes, not do too many strokes, and not to do it to often, or you will irritate the dog's skin.
One day one of our customers showed me his Evolution Rake, and demonstrated it for me on his Husky. Now, there's a dog that will give the GSD some competition when it comes to shedding! I examined the rake closely and saw that the Evolution's pins are spread out (hence the name "Rake"), and the pins rotate. This ingenious design allows the rake sink down deep into the dog's coat, past the topcoat, and when the rotating pins encounter hair that is not loose, they spin their way around the hair instead of latching onto the hair and pulling it out like the Furminator does. So, there is much less intact hair being pulled out. I can use as many strokes as I want, use it as often as I want, and my dog's skin does not get irritated. And, for $8 and change this is definitely the way to go! I believe there's another Evolution rake with pins that don't rotate, so just be sure to get the one that has the rotating pins. Unless, of course, you want to buy my like-new, barely used Furminator for $15! ;-)
