- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2023The case studies in this book are an eye opener, and I recognized nearly everyone I know as having codependent traits. Learning this information was an excellent use of my time, especially about the training and therapies used by counselors to help people learn to respond in healthy ways & how to set boundaries. In no way is this a “self help” book since people facing these challenges should probably find a counselor to work it through, not just read a book.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2015Basically, that book made me "not" wanna end if i may say, or in other words destroy any kind of a "somewhat toxic" relationship with ppl i respect and like but are co-dependent, i got this Ahaa moment and "ok so thats why!, now i understand" now i know why some guy are literally a magnet for narcissistic girls and gold-diggers and yet, they cannot escape the latter's jaws, like its hard. the fact that they are men and happen to be friends of mine, and see them literally grow poor and really stressed and cannot man up and leave this toxic relationship, because they are being sucked dry, it made me wanna actually not wanna be with those guys! i mean its fine to a certain degree, but when its too much its just sad.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2014Clear, insightful understanding of codependency. Easy read. Highly recommend to anyone exploring how to change their life and heal the powerful pull of codependency.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2015It did not take me long to realise that here we have a book of a thrown-together-pseudo-diagnosis that just about seems to fit anyone, it just depended on how you stretched it. What surprised me was that a person with a Ph.D had enough time to 'waste' on putting this 'slush' together. What I did appreciate is that the author made it clear that Codependency is not a classified diagnosis, which brings me to the very important point of family. I do not know whether you have a different view about what family means in your Western world compared to what family means in our Western world, but reading what this author had to say it appeared that there was not much love lost, or supposed to be, between your families over there; it was seen as codependency, which was unhealthy. Around here we call it family being there for each other when no one else cares whether you live or die, it goes something like this 'blood is thicker than water'. We call it by its original name: idiom.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2018For me codependency had become a catch all to which I paid little attention. Then my husband passed and this book has explained so very much. And yes, I got a good therapist and yes, I'm much, much happier! Thanks again!
