The Elman Induction: Unpacking the Theory and Practice of One of the Most Popular Hypnotic Inductions in the World (The Inductions Masterclass Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 51 ratings

The Elman Induction is rightly regarded as a timeless classic and remains one of the most popular means of inducing hypnosis in the world. This unique book takes Dave Elman's induction and brings it right up to date, by sharing the process as Elman taught it, as well as possible alternative understandings of what is taking place.

"Excellent, thoughtful study of the Dave Elman Induction. Graham Old dissects the technique and offers very useful insight on all aspects of what is probably the most useful hypnotic induction ever developed... I recommend this work for Elman aficionados as well as those not familiar with Elman who are wondering what all the fuss is about with this famous induction." - - Sean Michael Andrews, Atlantic Hypnosis Institute and Leading Authority on the Elman Induction

"The most useful and in depth treatment of an often misunderstood induction." - - Melissa Tiers, author of Integrative Hypnosis: A Comprehensive Course in Change

As a researching hypnotherapist I found Grahams books and read them all. There is much to learn. The themes are clear and well described. I love to read and study his books for they are easy to read and full of techniques.

A clear step-by-step approach which reveals and examines the Elman Induction as a process, not just a script. Deepens knowledge and awareness of what we are doing and why.

This book is to the point, just like the Elman Induction. I have studied the Elman Induction before and came away with a few new things to add to my practice.

Graham has written an excellent book on the Elman Induction. You can see various forms of this induction in many YouTube videos and also in many sites if you search. The main difference is Graham stresses how it is a process and not just a set of statements to be memorized and repeated. It is an interactive induction and Graham builds the relationship and interaction - including pretalk and the approach to bypassing the critical faculty, establishing selective attention and somnambulism. He explains the rationale for the steps and the context for these in the process. He also discusses fractionation. Some bonuses are - magnetic fingers, stiff arm transcripts and discussions. He also discusses super suggestion from Jon Chase which can be combined with this ( or any other induction). I like the troubleshooting page that discusses what to do when some step in the process does not happen. He references Sean Andrews's Elman induction DVDs ( excellent DVDs and step by step demonstration of the technique), Melissaa Tiers ( who has a more permissive version of the Elman induction) etc.

All in all a great little book that is useful even if you have the original Hypnotherapy book by Elman. Check out other works of Graham as well. All of them are excellent works.

Graham Old has written a masterful description and explanation of the Elman Induction. It is concise, well explained, and very, very thorough. The narration by Miles Meili is perfect and spot on.

I loved Elman's green book and Mr. Old delivered a near perfect isolated examination of 'the' script. I would buy this again!

Clear to understand, easy to read, having read the 1964 Dave Elman book, the Elman Induction gives a good account of the process and theory behind it. For more in depth understanding you need to read the Elman book in full.
