Thug Love (Decades: A Journey Of African-American Romance Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 32 ratings

As the new editor-in-chief for LA Chronicle, Traci Johnson is determined to change the California paper’s narrative. She’s tired of stories about police brutality, gang violence and drugs, and wants to focus on positive African-American stories. But when rapper Tupac Shakur gets shot it’s breaking news that must be covered, even though the incident epitomizes the type of topic she’s trying to avoid, and the type of man she despises.

Marcus Moore is a product of South Central Los Angeles. He could have easily been one of its statistics but he stays out of trouble and becomes an undercover agent for the LAPD. When Tupac gets shot he knows it’s not random. In fact he believes the trail of blood will lead back to a group of men he’s investigating, the reason he’s in Vegas. Meeting sexy journalist Traci Johnson is a tempting distraction, but her assumptions based on his appearance and the culture he embraces are a huge turn-off.

Tupac dies, and Marcus surprisingly finds comfort in Traci’s arms. Will what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas, or can the two get past stark societal differences and turn one night’s passion into a lifetime of love?

Zuri Day is a hopeful romantic. She believes in happy endings, half-full glasses and dreams coming true. That's why she's thrilled to now contribute to the genre she's read since the age of thirteen, after sneaking into her older sister's Harlequin collection and getting hooked on "happily ever after." When not writing, Zuri still loves to snuggle up next to a good storyline, whip up delicious vegetarian cuisine, travel to exotic locations or entertain friends and family between her native Jamaica and southern CA, where she hangs out with contemporary fiction writing BFF Lutishia Lovely. She also loves to hear from readers, and can be reached via Facebook @ HaveAZuriDay and the official website, ZuriDay.com.

Even though I wasn't sure I was going to like the book based on the title and cover, (I'm not a reader of street/urban lit and that's what I thought it was going to be like) it turned out to be a good and interesting read. It brought back a lot of 90's high school memories and the author did a good job with the story as well as bringing those memories back.

After reading this poem was in my mind: "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope." -- Maya Angelou Zuri Day wrote a love story anyone could enjoy. And it was sho nuff HOT. We could all enjoy some THUG LOVE!

I really liked this story. The characters were well developed and the writing style was good. I liked that Traci had an open mind and tried to get to know things from Marcus's point of view. One of the things I liked the most was that the chapters of the book were named after Tupac songs (added gem). I would only like for the ending to be a bit longer and more detailed. It seemed somewhat rushed. Overall, I enjoyed the book.

Ahhhhh...the 90's, my childhood, so free, so innocent. From fashion, culture, to carttons and especially music, it was a great decade. But for Traci and Marcus, it's about romance, learning and looking beyond "Stereotypes". I enjoy the book and going back down memory lane.

I really enjoyed Zuri Day’s contribution to the Decades series. It was good taking a journey through the 90’s. Marcus and Traci were from different sides of the tracks but managed to find love in each other.

Another great read from Zuri Day. Took me back to my 20's and looked at the racial and stereotypical biases even within and between our own race as African Americans. Loved the chemistry and dialogue.

A great recap of the 90's; the music, death if Biggie Smalls and Tupac and the movies! I liked Marcus from the beginning , He was a straight shooter who cared about the community he lived in. Traci, I didn't care for due to her snobbish attitude and judhging people without knowing them. My opinion changed as she got to know Marcus and saw things from a different perspective. My only disappointment was the ending; I fekt like I was keft hanging.
