Mother of Rebellion Hardcover – January 29, 2019
Purchase options and add-ons
The breaking was only the beginning...
Rebellion brews as nations struggle for power. Survival is pitted against compassion, duty against faith, and loyalties against love.
The Schism, a war that raged a thousand years ago, left the continent of Leyumin broken. Near constant war and destruction define the millenium afterward, but the heavens have promised reunifcation and with it peace. Now, two nations vie for dominance and the title of Unitor. One does so through politics and manipulation, the other through brute force and self-proclaimed pure blood.
Five unlikely people will shape the things to come: a slave-wife, a warrior, a guardian of history, a disciple, and a young nobleman. As they embark upon their journeys, their decisions sow the beginnings of change, and the consequences they reap prove to be more than they're prepared to handle.
Meanwhile, all wait in anticipation for the Unitor to emerge as the future looms uncertain.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"The world building was fantastic, but the strength of the story was in its characters. Telling a story from five different perspectives is a risk, but it succeeded in showing us different parts of this world without requiring us to flounder through chapters of background lore. I definitely want to see what comes next in this beautiful and fantastic tale." - Sara Lawson, round 2 semi finalist judge, EFFy Awards.
"This is an epic fantasy novel highlighting themes like slavery, selflessness, duty, honour, love, determination, rebellion, survival, and unique magic. The world-building was threaded perfectly into the plot, and the characters were as much masterfully developed as they were varied. I enjoyed the story so much and credit this to the originality in its delivery, the immersive world-building, and the inciteful characterization. This is definitely a book for all fantasy fiction readers who enjoy a suspenseful story with incredible pacing. I count it as an amazing find from author B.K. Boes and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel." - Ferdinand Otieno, round 3 quarter finalist judge, EFFy Awards.

About the author
B.K. Boes has been creating stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She always drifted toward the fantastical, though she loved most every genre that crossed her path. Now, she writes epic fantasy and post-apocalyptic fiction, transferring worlds and characters from her imagination to the page.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019This book was surprisingly better that I expected. Many times a reader has an expectation for a book and this book far exceeds my expectations. The characters are well defined and the multiple story lines are interesting, diverse and continually focus towards their individual goals. I found myself making time to continue reading the next chapter and I spent more time reading than I usually do, many times at the expense of not doing other things. I did not like that the stories continue into the next book which I am ready to read (can't wait), but knowing this is a saga series, they will come together. Much bigger that I expected but well done, well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2021I took a long time to read it, but not because it wasn't interesting. I liked each of the individual stories that you followed throughout the book. I am interested to see how they connect in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2020I first came across BK Boes writing in an anthology where her work caught my eye and imagination. I looked to see what else she had written and came up with this book. I'm glad I did! She is a fine writer and I hope to read many more of her stories..
- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2020Great start to a good story. The different point of views move the story along as you anticipate when all the characters will come together. Well written fleshed out characters.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2019Gripping saga! The characters come alive as you dive into this world. I would be thinking about the characters during the work day wondering what was going to happen next! Crazy good book!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019This book took me a bit to get into, but after several chapters in, I became invested in the characters and really wanted to keep reading. The world is complex and interesting, and the main characters all feel realistic and relatable. I enjoyed this book!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2019For the record, I received an Advanced Review Copy (ARC) of this book with the request that I leave a voluntary honest review for other potential readers. That having been said, here is my honest opinion and review of this book (no spoilers). This is a wonderful start to an Epic Fantasy. It is an intriguing and complex plot with so many different threads along with tons of twists and turns. It will be interesting to see how this will all play out. The world building is excellent with interesting details of the lands of the story and some great illustrations. I found the characters to be well developed and believable rather than larger than life with clearly delineated motivations to go along with their struggles. These characters are ones that any reader can empathize with and root for as they travel through their adventures. Of course, the villians are highly complex as well and you just want them to fail in their actions. The author's writing style is smooth and easy to read while at the same time keeping the pace of the story flowing. So, my honest opinion is that this book is absolutely worth the time to read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2019The Mother of Rebellion is not a typical epic fantasy. It is better. In the tradition of Brandon Sanderson, this epic follows the lives of a group of characters, in a reality that is not earth. The characters are exceptionally well developed and draw you in tho their lives. B. K. Boes draws you into their inner struggles and dynamic, while maintaining a great pace and plot development.
The political and religious structures of this world are brought clearly into focus, through the eyes and experiences of the characters. The development of the social norms are part of the character development and the plot, meaning that enjoying the story allows you to immerse yourself in their world and enjoy the ride.
Mother of Rebellion is one of those books that makes you take pause and think, and often had me thinking about when I was not in a position to be reading. The characters do not make random or unlikely decisions. Each is well enough developed that their choices make sense within the framework of the story.
The 5 main characters bring the entire world to life, drawing you in. It is the best novel I've read in the last year. Entertaining and immersive. My only regret is that I'm done, and the next book may be a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT take a mother's child away !!
This is an excellently - written story of a
cruel, brutal society that does not deserve
to exist and one mother's battle to change
her world.
I am really eager to see how her story continues.
Settle yourself comfortably for a ** good ** read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to the sequel!
This was a great book. I really liked the world building.I didn’t give 5 stars because there was one POV character that I found really boring to read but all the other characters and chapters really made up for it. Il definitely be buying the next one.
