Originally, I was planning to get a 3-way head for the flexibility, precision, and ease of changing from landscape to portrait (I like photographing both landscapes and people). Fluid heads pan and tilt smoothly, but cannot reorient from landscape to portrait without some extra hardware. The great thing about the 190 series is that the center column adjusts 90 degrees, so I had a built-in solution. There were two more additions I made: I added a $50 leveler between the tripod and the fluid head, which makes it a total breeze to level to the horizon for perfect panoramic shots, and I added a quick release adapter. The fluid head comes with a slide plate, which I found got in the way of doing manual adjustments of my lens. The QR adapter makes my life so much easier.
When it comes to traveling, the arm of the fluid head adjusts down quickly and easily (as seen in photo). Weight-wise, the leveler added more than the fluid head. I'm super happy with the configuration and the enhanced flexibility to track things quickly in the wild (birds, etc.) with fewer adjustments. The quality of the fluid head, the smoothness of its movement, the condition of delivery, all make for high marks for this transaction.

I wouldn't use it for a client work unless it was a last resort (I typically use Manfrotto 501/502 heads), but for the price, size, and weight, it does quite well.
Some of the negative reviews make me think some folks were expecting a professional level head in a lightweight travel unit.... If you need truly professional results (ultra-smooth shots using a large DSLR and a 70-200), you'll want to look at the 502 or 504 heads from Manfrotto and a larger tripod.
Now with all this said, Its not a professional ball head but it would make for a great travel video ball head.
The fluid pan head is smooth wide open which is the the only setting it has. Tighten the knob even a tiny bit and it grinds through the movement. Tighten the pan knob all the way and it is not tight enough to fully secure the head to the tripod.
Tighten the tilt knob all the way and nothing locks down there either. With a GH5/Rokinon 50mm the head would not stay in place unattended with any forward tilt.
I would not trust the plate lock at all. Tightened as mush as possible without tools it takes very little pressure to push the plate. And not much of a bump to dislodge the plate enough to slam it against the safety catch. So no over the should carry or tossing it in the back seat with the camera attached.
I packed this up for return the same day I got it. This is worse than the head that comes on the $80 Milliboo tripod.
