We live in a Zone 4 area. On a cold day, say 10F to 20F we wake up to with the Rinnai turned ON and set to 60F and not running continuously. The evening before we would have raised to inside temp to high 60s low 70s with the wood stove. We usually put one last log in about 8pm and turn the Rinnai on set to 60F. By morning 5am the stove might still have a few hot coals or not. If the outside isn't below 32F we don't turn the Rinnai ON until morning to take the chill off.
If the day is sunny then the Rinnai is turned off by 7-8am. A fire it then made in the afternoon. If cloudy a fire is made about 8am.
The Rinnai make a great supplement to the wood stove. We're heating a well insulated 800sqft of used living space with heat leaks to another 1300sqft to just keep from freezing.
Negatives
The blown warm air from the Rinnai causes cool air flows just like Heat Pump central blowers. Nothing beats a wood stove for heat IMO.
Next, the cost of LPG per btu is much higher than wood were I live, but that's not a deal breaker since LPG isn't our primary energy source.

I have a cabin in Big Bear Lake, CA and the altitude is about 7,000 ft. I have propane gas and the cabin is only 370 sq ft. My plumber recommended this propane heater and I was told by the same plumber that this heater would have no problem heating up my small cabin. Well winter is here and the plumber was wrong. At night when the temperature gets into the 30s or lower outside the heater can never get higher than 54 degrees inside (and this is with a electric heater turned on as well). This makes for a lot of snuggling, which is okay if you like to snuggle but not okay if you need to get up and walk to the bathroom or the kitchen, etc.

Since the heater can never get the room warm it constantly runs at night and sucks up the propane. This gets very costly to run.

My biggest pet peeve with the heater is not the lack of heat but the fact that you need electricity to run it. I purposely bought a propane heater so that I can have heat regardless if my electricity works or not. Now I found that I have to have the heater plugged in to run it. This defeats the purpose of buying a propane heater as a safety issue. Now if the electricity goes out I will not have heat and that can be deadly when it gets below freezing outside. I didn't read anything in the ad at the time I bought it that said it needed electricity to run so I was very disappointed when I discovered this fact.

Another issue is that is has a tray that you have to keep filled with water. This is a total pain to constantly maintain and to keep checking to make sure the water hasn't evaporated.

Unfortunately I bought the heater at the end of last winter and didn't test it until this winter so I can't return it. I would give less than one star if that was an option.

This is a great little heater. I built a extra 12'x12' room in the garage, insulated it with 6 inches of insulation. The room has two doors and two windows. We have just had several days of below zero weather and this heater held the set temp. with no problem.

I purchased 2 units to add to my room additions. They work great and heat up the bedrooms (13 x 14) each extremely well. I live near the mountains and prior to turning it on the temperature read 50 degrees and in less than 10 minutes it had increase to 70. The installation was done by a plumber I found on Craigslist. If you call a regular plumber company they will charge you an arm and a leg for the hook up, which doesn't appear hard per the detail instructions provided. I just couldn't do it since I am mechanically challenge when it comes to any handyman work. The display on the unit is also easy to see and programmed. I would have given a 4 or even a 4.5 but the unit is large. I had to return one of them because it was dented on the front side and was force to keep one that was dented (there was no replacement available and I was on a strict timeline). The price for each unit is expensive and add the installation cost and I'm not sure if it is worth the overall cost. I had no choice in the matter because the plans had the units included in them but if I did have a choice I would have gone with a different brand that was less expensive.

Love it , only because I have it. its a bit big in size for my little 14 X12 room but it has all the bells and whistles so I can walk away with not worrying about coming in cold.

Unit came in with concealed damage to the right side panel. Not readily visible in my woodshop location so I installed it as I wanted heat. Furnace does a great job and runs quietly.

We put this in a 600 sq ft studio that only had a wood stove.
This thing is great.
It's quiet, keeps the room at a constant temperature and it's a really nice heat.
The bonus is the water tray to add a little humidity to the room.
