I will be trying the version of going backwards (so we can divide and subtract more) soon.
When I read the variations to the game, I was hoping for some more complex ones, something to tie in the factors of numbers you land on... there's so much on that board that could be interesting to use in some way. Maybe I'll come up with other ways to use that game board. It's very cool.
Also wondering why the first prime numbers aren't all in red. Some of my students have asked me why ... so with one student we played that if you land on ANY prime number (including 2, 3, 5, 7) you can get a prime card. Why not... the more cards, the more fun it is!.
On another note, I have an old board game I got when I was a kid called "X From Outer Space" made by Discovery Toys. I used to like it because of the cute little plastic pawns shaped like aliens flying spaceships and the cute space theme. (I got it around the time of the Challenger explosion, and I was very interested in outer space.) My boys have played it with me a couple of times and liked it, but all it really does is help you learn multiplication. There really isn't any strategy to it at all, so after a while it starts to get boring, and it really holds no challenge for parents, so it's a pretty short-lived family game. While I still enjoy it for kids learning their times tables, Prime Climb is really a much more interesting game and offers more room for growth .
We played it a few times now and it's both FUN and EDUCATIONAL.
The color code is great and the idea behind it is wonderful.
It's just a great game that encourages kids to love and enjoy MATH.
THANK YOU FOR THAT.
The game includes a board with all the numbers between 0 and 101 in a spiral. The goal of the game is to land your piece on the 101 spot. You get there by rolling dice and using math to chose how many spaces to move. The basic strategy becomes clear very quickly for new players. The board itself is beautifully designed and the pretty colors aren't just pretty colors, they are coded to indicate multiplication factors. There is a metaphor here about women and their pretty little heads, but I can't quite pull it together. :)
The game moves quickly, adding and subtracting is easily supported by counting circles and there is a multiplication table included that uses the same fantastic color-coding as the board for anyone who needs a little help with multiplication and division. Game variations are also included in the instructions, like faster game play using one token per player.
Really, all-around this is an excellent game. My only criticism, and it is so minor I did not take any stars off for it, is the dice. Instead of a 10, they have a 0 and we find that we often forget this fact. And the shape of the dice is a little wobbly so sometimes we lose the numbers for the roll.

The quality of the board is fine and I like that the playing pieces are pawns rather than flat counters.
My key criticism is the over packaging. The box is much deeper than it needs to be, it could be about half the depth and still fit everything inside.
