Review
Michel Nuschan, owner and founder of Dressing Room, his homegrown restaurant in Westport, CT and CEO and president of Wholesome Wave Foundation.
What a beautiful, compelling book! The recipes are at once simple, sensual, and customized for people with diabetes. Robyn’s overall comfort food message reassures that one’s diet needn’t compromise on pleasure when skewing healthy. Good food can do us a world of good, and can taste great in the process. Robyn makes this very clear.”
Mollie Katzen, author of Moosewood Cookbook
After drooling over the beautiful food photography, I found myself wish that the Diabetes Comfort Food Cookbook was a scratch and sniff cookbook. Robyn Webb has single-handedly changed the stigma of the diabetic diet from one of deprivation to celebration! Brava, Robyn!”

For those with diabetes, or for that matter, health conscious people everywhere, Robyn Webb's Perfect Comfort Food Collection offers myriad great tasting, yet simple, creative meals that reflect how real people cook. The collection is a godsend and sure to become a go-to classic in homes everywhere. - Nathalie Dupree-cookbook author and television host
Author Robyn Webb really hits it out of the park with her latest book The Perfect Diabetes Comfort Food Collection. Her book approaches cooking in a simple, yet effective way by first breaking down and concentrating on a few cooking techniques, such as roasting and grilling. She then continues to describe a few core kitchen ingredients that she cross utilizes in many of her recipes. What I really adore about this book is how it focuses on popular food items, such as burgers, chicken breast, and meatloaf, and how to master the classic styles of each food. After giving you the ‘classic’ versions, Robyn then gets creative by making different variations to fit each person’s personal taste. As a registered dietitian and someone that loves food, I would recommend this book to anyone because it takes comfort food to a new level with its variety and craftiness, which is only surpassed by the fact that it focuses on diabetic eating principles. Robyn dispels the myths behind diabetic diets and shows how simple eating a whole foods diet really is. Get ready to take your taste buds on a flavor packed roller coaster ride.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2016Our son was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. When this book arrived he began thumbing through it and was very excited to see many of his favorite meals included, classic Hummus, Creamy Deviled Eggs, Everyday Taco Salad, Roast Chicken, Chicken (sloppy) Joes, Mac 'n' Cheese, Chicken Cacciatore, Grilled Pork and Cheese Quesadilla, Indian Lamb Curry, Classic Free Form Meatloaf, Double Chocolate Brownies, & Old Fashion Peanut Butter Cookies.
Most of the ingredients are typical pantry items with a few new items that ought to be in a diabetics pantry. There are many "extras" in brown boxes through out the book like, Fast fixes for Rice, A Little Chocolate Goes a Long Way, How to Saute the Right way.
This book helps us know that we can learn to adapt our usual recipes, eat flavorful meals, help him, and us, eat right. Excited to start trying them.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2012Everything that you could possibly want in assisting you to provide healthy, nutrition rich comfort foods for pre-diabetic and diabetic diners can be found in Robyn Webb's THE DIABETES COMFORT FOOD COOKBOOK is here. Eye-catching photos of palate satisfying food recipes are organized into categories such as sides and salads, soups and stews, one pot and skillet meals, plus tasty pastas and, of course, desserts, are here with detailed instructions for preparing such foods. Exchange choices and the calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fiber, sugar, and protein content are listed for each recipe at the bottom of that recipe. I really like roasted vegetables so enjoyed the roasted potatoes, carrots, and parsnips recipe, not to mention the braised cabbage and apples recipe. If you indulge in a favorite like mac and cheese, you'll enjoy the version presented here. Read, cook, and find out for yourself just how delectable these recipes are. Savor the trip in preparation as well as the end product. Amazon is amazing in offering this book online and so easy to purchase. Thank you Amazon for bringing this book to my door. Z. Smith
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2017I have made several of the recipes - some more once. The recipes I've tried so far are tasty, fairly easy to make and don't leave one feeling like they are settling for a healthy, but less tasty, dish. In short - I don't feel cheated! I am adding these recipes to dishes I make regularly. No one eating any of these recipes were even aware that they were geared to a health specific diet.
I really like all the information regarding the carbohydrate, fat and protein content - including sodium and fiber. I don't care about exchanges but I suppose it's important to some.
Really like this cook book and will recommend it to anyone looking to change their diet.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2025Although the recipes in this book are pretty tasty-sounding and interesting, I didn't realize that the book was written in 2011. The recipes use a lot of ingredients that are just not as healthy as they could be. I'm mainly talking about the use of non-whole products like fat free and low-fat ingredients. When those fats are removed they're replaced by processed unhealthy ingredients. I think from what I've experienced with today's whole food nutrition theories, there's better choices.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2012I was so happy to finally find a diabetic cookbook where the recipes are not only delicious but also enjoyable for the whole family. My husband eats mostly vegetarian, and my daughter is the world's pickiest eater. They both love anything I have made from this book. If I had any quibbles, it would be that the recipes take awhile to prepare so it is sometimes a challenge on a weeknight to get food on the table in a reasonable amount of time. But it is easy to make some things ahead of time and combine everything later. This is a book for how America likes to eat - I no longer feel as if I'm depriving myself of food that normal people get to eat!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2012The ADA Comfort Food Cookbook really lives up to it's name. So many recipes to try, and they all looked so good I didn't know where to start. so I started with the first recipe, (really good, and we both loved the wanton bundles). Since then I have tried several other recipes and they have all been delicious and easy to cook. Real comfort food that fiuts into our diabetic diets. i would recommend this cookbook to anyone, whether they have diabetes or not. It is good for the whole family, and the kids will love lots of the recipes.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2016I had to buy a cookbook that I actually would use for comfort food while I was pregnant. I have Type 2 diabetes, and I was instructed that I couldn't gain more than 10 pounds during my whole pregnancy, and that I would have to work especially hard to keep my sugars low. I did it! It was hard, but being able to eat comfort food that didn't shoot me over my goal sugars, was wonderful. It's an easy to use book, and I love cookbooks, so it wasn't so hard to immerse myself in it. User friendly, and pregnancy friendly.
