Product Description
Panasonic ventilation ceiling exhaust fans produce maximum airflow and remove air impurities while operating at whisper-quiet noise levels.
The Panasonic FV-20NLF1 WhisperLine Remote Mount InLine Fan can be added to single or multiple inlets to prevent condensation and noise, improving insulation in your home. It features five positions for easy installation and a tapered 6” duct adapter for easy connection. Joint, truss and suspension brackets are included for easy assembly. Panasonic fans use less energy to move larger volumes of air than other brands. This allows Panasonic fans to run cooler, meaning a reduced risk of overheating and a longer lifespan. The WhisperLine Remote Mount InLine Fan is Energy Star certified and complies with ASHRAE 62.2, LEED, California Title 24, and Washington VIAQ codes and standards.
Achieve quality air and energy efficiency with whisper-quiet sound levels for your spaces with the Panasonic FV-20NLF1 WhisperLine Remote Mount InLine Fan.

These fans are quiet, very quiet for how much they flow. I don't think they work great for static pressure applications (vacuum or blower), but to move air at low pressures they work great.
It's important to have a filter on the intake air duct to keep dust out of the fan so it can run problem free for many years. Filtration is actually one of the express purposes that I run mine for. Specifically, I use this 240cfm unit to pull air from ceiling registers through a large filtration cabinet in the attic and push it into the larger return air duct for the house's main forced air unit. The Panasonic provides a continuous flow, 24x7. My other Panasonic whisperline also provides continous 24x7 operation on a filtered make-up air duct for ventilation to ASHRAE 62.2 standards.
One fan is in the attic, and the other fan is in the garage and in the house, I do not hear them at all. If I put my ear to the air ducts themselves, I can hear the flow of air, but I do not hear any motor noise in the house. The 120cfm unit in the garage is quieter than the refrigerator -- I don't hear it unless I'm standing next to it and listening. The 240cfm unit is a little louder if I'm sitting next to it in the attic. It is too loud to operate it inside the house. Mine is connected via flexduct which helps isolate it some more compared to rigid steel duct.
I would use these fans for any kind of project like this in the future.
Bought this fan as I wire them all the time at work for new house builds (electrician.) This is a “premium feature” for houses as they’re extremely quiet as you can place them remotely from bathroom, etc. Our new home when we moved in had a regular ceiling fan that was old and rattly, so I decided to remove it and retrofit the hole in the bathroom ceiling with a register boot from lowes. I then used 6 inch flex ducting from lowes from boot in ceiling to fan intake, then from outake duct to outside of house through an end gable vent.
I absolutely love going in the bathroom and flipping on the fan which is now in the attic and hearing nothing but a little bit of air move through the vent in the bathroom ceiling. It’s a lot better than the old fan that rattled continually nor did my girlfriend like that either! Now she has no problem using the shower fan while she showers since she hears no “annoying sounds.”
The fan weighs about 20 pounds, so if you are going to hang it between rafters as I did, and not set it on or between floor joists, I would suggest having someone hold it so you can get your screws started. It comes with one and a half inch long Phillips head screws to hang/ secure it.
To connect the electrical you’ve got 2 screws then a the rectangular plate will come off. It has three 1/2” knockouts for a black grommet or romex connector.
Finally for your ducting all you have to do is slide flex duct over each end and then use a panduit strap. These are basically large zip ties to go around ducting. These and HVAC duct tape can be found at lowes as well. I used the zip tie then followed up with HVAC duct tape and the ducting connections were solid.
I would definitely recommend this fan and would use one again personally if I had the need. If I have to again, I’ll never go back to a ceiling mounted bath fan unless absolutely necessary.
I live in a hundred year old house with no exhaust fan. One thing that I have is a gravity vent with period specific grill assembly above my stove that connects to a roof vent. Needless to say, the assembly never worked. I thought about getting a conventional kitchen exhaust but it did not work well into the decor (or lack of) of the kitchen, including my o'keefe & merritt stove. I saw this unit from Amazon, read a bunch of reviews about the fan and decided to give it a shot. I confirm that this fan is super quiet, and works beautifully.
Here are some things for people to be aware of:
1. There was an one-star review regarding the unit for not being a plug in type fan. Well duh! The fan needs to be hardwired. I guess you can mickey mouse it by rigging a plug to the wires, but you local building official would not be happy with what you are doing. Not to mention the fire department when they show up at your house after a fire call... I am exaggerating a bit, especially considering the fan draws less than 1 amp, but you need to hard wire this fan. I installed a switch next to the stove and a double pole switch at the fan for servicing.
2. This fan is really quiet. I barely notice that it is on.
3. The fan instruction specifically says it is not for a kitchen/cooking equipment ventilation. I think they are worried that any grease build up that may affect the performance. I just rigged in a sheet metal housing with a slide in grease filter for a conventional kitchen exhaust above the register.
In conclusion, I used to have to open all the windows and the back door for frying 4 slices of bacon. Now I can keep the windows and the door close, and enjoy as many slices of bacon as I want. Also, once I was done with the installation, my wife was wondering what I did for a half the day. I had to show her the switch next to the stove and once the fan was on, she was happy as a clam.
A really great fan!

Amazing unit
Quickly removes humid air. Can be run from a humidistat.
In my situation, the attic installation was more then I was hopping for, but this fan solved all of the above issues. (I replaced the drywall as well as installed the fan).
Each bathroom was on its own electrical cct, so I connected the fan to one bathroom switch and the other bathroom controlled a relay to also turn on the fan. (Both bathroom switches off - fan off, Any of the two bathroom switches on - fan is on. ) (Unless you are comfortable with that, you may wish to call in an electrician ) - I used this relay from Amazon..
