could make it work?....
You still have to rely on the keyboard for Chat and other Functions, and the Mouse for Aiming (FPS) or Menu Interface; so DON'T chunk that Mouse thinking the Controller does everything!
If I can't get the Aiming to work like a Consel FPS, I just use the Mouse to Aim with my Right Hand, and the Controller's Left Thumb Stick in my Left Hand for latteral movement (up, down, strafe, etc); it works well that way.. ;) heh heh.
Of coarse, you can always reverse the Controlls if your Right Handed (the Action Buttons to Move).
But the BOTTOM LINE IS: it works. It's not perfect, it's a ways off from replacing those expensive PC Controllers (which do work), and it's not a full release from a Keyboard (I recomend a Wireless), but it sure beats that clunky, tank-like
Mouse and Keyboard style! (No dis to any Keyboard users- if you can master it, more power to you)
Score 1 for us Controller Purists! The time for Consel x PC Crossover is here! Well, sort of. At least affordably!
For PC, this adapter is a bit weird and it isn't seen as usual xbox 360 controllers. If you are trying to use this $10 ps2 usb adapter to play a modern pc game like RDR2 then expect to run into issues. It does work with epsxe and the pcsx2 emulator on windows 10 though.
I am not 100% sure on how this product works, but the pressure sensitive buttons from ps2 controllers seem to be translated into binary style on and off signals. I only tested those on PC emulators, but I don't think any of my PC emulators supports pressure sensitive buttons on a controller anyways. $10 is hard to beat
The adapter has two ports for PS2 controllers or dance pads. Be careful when you tear open and throw away the packaging because there is a minidisc with drivers on it stuck between the two folds of cardboard in the packaging. Some people have said that these drivers made the device work. They actually made mine unusable so I ended up uninstalling them. If you have Windows 7, the device is recognized and installed automatically. If you plan to use this for regular controllers, you should be okay from here. However, if you have a dance pad, prepare for a nightmare.
The main problem with this adapter is that it registers the buttons by axis rather than as individual buttons. Imagine the difference between D-pad directional buttons that are all part of the same base and the four separate buttons (x, o, triangle, square). This shouldn't be too much of a problem in other games where multiple directional buttons are never pressed together, but with a dance pad this makes hitting two directional buttons at the same time impossible. I spent hours digging through Stepmania forum posts before I finally got it to work.
First, you have to re-calibrate your dance pad through the Windows 7 Control Panel EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to play the game. In addition, you have to download and run a script that gives coordinates for the x, y, and z axes positions when you press two buttons at the same time, edit a second script to include this data, and then run the second script while Stepmania is running just to force the adapter to recognize the left and right/up and down arrows as separate buttons rather than buttons on an axis. Then you have to program your Stepmania controls on the dance pad. Also, the script that runs behind Stepmania causes your keyboard to spam the A and W keys nonstop so you literally have to close the script and make your dance pad unusable before you can use any other programs, including Windows. And if you happen to forget to change the settings on your taskbar to not hide tray icons, the script will cause an error when you try to right-click close it, which will result in the need for a complete system restart. It's an absolute nightmare, especially if you're not computer savvy enough to figure out how to do all of this. Fortunately a simplified version of the instructions are available in the Stepmania forums.
Overall, the adapter works, but it took me hours to figure out how to get it to function properly. It would be better to either buy a dance pad that has a USB port already built into it (such as the RedOctane Ignition 5.0 pad) or find a better adapter that works with Stepmania. For anyone else looking for an adapter for this reason, I recommend checking the forums before you make your purchase.
