Johnna Lowther has worked in the field of recreational therapy since 2001 and is currently the Director of Life Enrichment for Tutera Senior Living & Healthcare. Throughout her career, she has seen first-hand the positive effect that creative and artistic therapies can have on seniors living in residential settings, especially those battling Alzheimer's and other dementias. "By tapping into the creative side of the brain, you can access a powerful tool for communication. Offering various opportunities to engage and interact in a creative form is vitally important to those living with dementia. It becomes a communication outlet that re-connects them to living," says Lowther. With over 14 years of experience working in Assisted Living, Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing communities, Lowther develops and implements programs that improve the daily lives of those battling dementia. In addition to partnering with healthcare staff, she also consults with families in supportive services that help meet the unique challenges loved ones face with this disease. She currently lives in her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, with her husband and their chocolate lab, whom they fondly refer to as their "big ol' hunk of chocolate!"

I have read a couple good books regarding Alzheimers as my Dad suffers from it. What I like best about this book is it is written in a style as if she is your trusted compassionate friend there to support you. Her tips and insight are invaluable. I have never thought so much of the disease from the perspective of the heart, soul and body of the person with the disease.

Thank you Johnna for sharing your heart and gifts!

Excellent book with most helpful insights and suggestions on how to help a loved one travel through the dementia journey. I have given copies to others and will continue to do so. I only wish I'd had the information found in this book when working with my mother, sister, and then brother as they experienced the early to late stages of Alzheimer's. A "must read" for caretakers and family members.

What a wonderful book to help you through the process of helping a loved one suffering from dementia. There are a lot of tips in this book that I'd never thought of using before. It is clear the author has spent many years helping those with dementia and truly cares about their journey and yours as a caregiver as well.
