- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018If you're like me, you've been at a Catholic party only to have the conversation turn to the topic of one fo the classical spiritual books that *everyone* has read. Well...everyone except me. It's not that I don't *want* to read the great spiritual books (like The Imitation of Christ, The Story of a Soul, The Way of Perfection, and Introduction to the Devout Life, and others), it's just that I'm busy with work, kids, and a seemingly never-ending list of household chores and the idea of being able to read these great books slightly overwhelming!
If only there was an easy way to delve in and get the gist of all of those great titles and more while moving more deeply into my spiritual life and relationship with Christ.
NOW THERE IS!!
Stay Connected - Exploring the Catholic Classics by Tiffany Walsh is exactly what I've been waiting for (and yes, it's *still* exactly what I've been waiting for even though the subtitle is "Journals for Catholic Women")! Tiffany provides an easy and accessible study of the great classics mentioned above, selected passages from the giants who have written these incredible books, and an opportunity to explore our own lives, feelings, experiences, and journal away to our heart's content.
I was SO excited to delve into this book with my wife as a part of our nightly time together after the kids are finally in bed, and the next time I'm at one of those parties I mentioned above, I'll be able to hold my own in the conversation!
I mean, the most important thing is obviously growing closer to Christ, but holding my own in those convos is also going to be pretty sweet...
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2018Tiffany Walsh does a magnificent job taking 7 Catholic Spiritual Classics and making the reader feel they could not only read these once avoided tomes but LEARN from them. Afraid I would not understand the theology or spiritual insights, I avoided Story of A Soul, Threshold of Hope, and Imitation of Christ. Now that I've read Tiffany's Exploring the Catholic Classics, I can't wait to dive into these and the only 4 she recommends.
What I LOVED about Tiffany Walsh's book was it was more than just a synopsis of someone else's book. She makes the book her own - weaving in personal stories and insights. Each chapter connects several Scripture verses for you to also explore and to connect to the particular book being featured in that chapter, as well as discussion questions to ponder yourself or with a small group.
Beautifully done. Well Crafted. A must read for every Catholic looking to continue their spiritual journey by revisiting the wisdom of those who walked the path before us. You will not be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2018Not only did I fly through this Bible study, but it inspired me to dig into all of the selected Catholic classics! Love the author's easy tone and expertise in examining how these famous Catholic works (and other Bible passages) are especially applicable to the lives of the faithful today. If you're at all interested in gaining a better understanding of Catholicism through its most timeless writings, this is the book for you.
As you can probably guess from my name, I'm not exactly the target market for this women's Bible study journal. But, honestly, it's totally applicable to men too. Everyone should read this. Can't wait for the sequel! (Hint, hint)
