This is a great YA read, especially for fans of the supernatural. Kranes has a wonderful sense of plot development and pacing. Thank you so much for writing it and letting us into your world!
When her enemies start closing in, Dagny starts to wonder if she can ever have a normal life…and if she can really trust the boy she’s fallen in love with.
The writing was excellent, and Dagny and her family behaved very realistically, almost like real people. I particularly liked Dagny, but all the characters had something to offer, and brought an unique perspective to the table. The story unfolded nicely, one clue at a time, and kept me thoroughly entertained until the end. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
While this was a little long, I did like this book, it was pretty interesting. The history lessons were brief so I didn’t feel like I was reading a textbook and the writing was simple, kept the story progressing.
I will admit that I was rolling my eyes when it switched to Jillian’s POV, she was just the classic special snowflake, no-body-likes-me whiner. I also feel like some of the writing could have used more detail or been written a different way to convey what she wanted. The fight didn’t have that oomph I wanted, it just seemed very simplified.
Other than Jillian, I did enjoy the different POV’s but I didn’t like Ava and I think this was where the author needed different ways of describing her because it just seemed like Ava hated her sister. Smirking and sneering, she was smug and snide a lot.
The cover is pretty cool, I know I’d stop and take a look if I passed it on a bookshelf. I would recommend to teens and young adults.

The witches in the book are modern (or appear to be) yet they use ancient spells in the here and now in order to achieve their goals. The references to Wicca and to its spells are very well researched and knowledgeable.
Two things in particular resonated with me whilst reading this book. The first, that there is a point at which it is said that certain characters behave as they do due to the teachings of an ancient, almost 'holy' book - which has very obvious real world parallels. The second, the love story that develops between two characters from families that are sworn, historical enemies (within the context of the story) reminded me a little bit of Romeo and Juliet, though the outcome... well like I said, no spoilers here!
This is a well written story that takes a uniquely different view of witchcraft and rivalry. It has love and romance, adventure and good old fashioned Good v. Evil. An enjoyable read!
