BASIC BIBLE INTERPRETATION
Can the Bible really be understood?
Are Old Testament prophecies relevant for today?
How can I understand the symbolism of the Book of Revelation?
What is the relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament?
Why study Bible interpretation? Dr. Roy Zuck points out that it is essential for understanding and teaching the Bible properly, essential as a step beyond observation, and essential for applying the Bible correctly.
He discusses the challenges of Bible interpretation, considers the problems of Bible interpretation, explores the history of Bible interpretation, and defines key terms--all in a practical, down-to-earth way.
Though Dr. Zuck's many years of teaching and scholarship are evident in this book, he has written in language understandable to all who are serious about bible study and who want to know better what Scripture means.

Editorial Reviews
Review
-- Warren W. Wiersbe, author and pastor
Having taught and written in the area of hermeneutics for almost thirty years, I am convinced that there is no more important course in the seminary curriculum for training in the Scriptures. As Roy Zuck has so ably demonstrated, we cannot know the message of the Bible for today until we know its meaning. Dr. Zuck's work is intensely biblical and comprehensive but at the same time it is simple and uncomplicated. This is a book we have needed for many years and I praise the Lord that it is now available.
-- Earl D. Radmacher, chancellor, professor of Systematic Theology Western Seminary
At last! A book on hermeneutics you can understand. Dr. Zuck has drawn heavily on his many years of teaching in the seminary classroom to present an excellent treatise on biblical interpretation. While this book will be well received in the classroom, it is one that I will be wholeheartedly recommending to my congregation. While the scholarship is clearly present, it is nevertheless most readable and understandable by the average layperson. This book will make a valuable contribution to your ability to comprehend the Scriptures. -- Louis A. Barbieri, senior pastor Des Plaines Bible Church, Des Plaines, Illinois

- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2012Zuck is the absolute best tool for conservative evangelicals, who want to stay within the realms of the grammatical-historical interpretation, and not the new hermeneutics that has destroyed the trustworthiness of Scripture. He covers the subject very well, and is easy to understand for the new Bible student/churchgoer. For those using other books in your seminary classes, which have abandoned grammatical-historical interpretation for the new hermeneutics, get this book too, and read it first. Do not wade into the deeper end of the pool without this life raft. After you have read this you should read others:
Evangelical Hermeneutics: The New Versus the Old by Robert L. Thomas
Objectivity in Biblical Interpretation by Thomas Howe
Protestant Biblical Interpretation by Bernard Ramm
Biblical Hermeneutics by Milton Spenser Terry
The Jesus Crisis by Robert L. Thomas

A Basic Guide to Biblical Interpretation: Understanding the Correct Methods of Interpretation
We live in a very dangerous age. The atheist, the Bible critic, the liberal "Christians" are all very savvy with their twisting of the Scriptures, which comes from the new hermeneutics, higher criticism, dynamic equivalent Bible translation, and much more. These books will give you the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom to not lose your faith that the Bible is the inspired, fully inerrant Word of God. If you think that you are so strong that they these dangerous ones will not affect your resolve, think again, because that thought is evidence of a lack of humility, and haughtiness is before the crash.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2018I purchased this book for a college-level class being taught at our church, but having had the opportunity to have read it I would have done so no matter what the reason. This is a tremendous book, and I intend to track down other books by this author. This conservative writer has a keen knowledge of the Scriptures which he has put into practical format to share with some of us fledgling, less educated Bible students. It is quite readable for nearly anyone who will put in some effort in studying, yet not so simple as to not be useful for even the seminary student. I highly recommend Dr. Zuck's book to everyone interested in learning proper Biblical hermeneutics, which I have learned is an art and a science. I wish to thank Dr. Zuck for writing this manual for all who follow in his path.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2018Many books on Bible interpretation (hermeneutics) are written for seminary professors and students, with proper and technical terminology. These books often assume the reader is advanced in Bible interpretation. In contrast, Zuck's book is written with the "average" Bible reader in view. He writes directly and simply, without being simplistic. His approach to hermeneutics accurately understands the Bible as written in plain language to ordinary people. He explains the procedures of Bible interpretation, illustrates how Bible interpretation should be done, and applies it in a readable manner. This is an excellent book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2022Dispensational and fundamental doctrinally, this is a very good book on interpretation. Zuick was at Dallas Theological Seminary in the former, conservative days along with D. Pentecost, C. Ryrie, J. Walvoord et al. Highly recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2011I am going through seminary right now and studying hermeneutics. I absolutely LOVE this book. It is so interesting and relevant to those studying theology. It makes you think about aspects of the Bible you may never have thought of when interpreting. Bible interpretation is such a key component when studying and learning how to apply the Bible to our lives as well as growing closer to God. The key is seeking the meaning and not creating a meaning of your own as you read the Bible. It is dangerous how some people take the Bible and use it to create their own meaning beneficial to what message they want to send out, ignoring the truth that it really entails. With this book, I am learning that the Bible must be interpreted correctly in order to truly understand the meaning.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2021The topics explained in this book are extremely important (if not necessary) for the growth of the young Christian. Be careful with Zuck’s interpretation of James 2, but aside from that the book is great. In particular the sections on figures of speech and typology are very enlightening.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022Learning the art and science of biblical interpretation the proper historical little grammatical approach It's extremely important and this is an excellent book to start for any student
