A brilliant and exceptionally talented IT executive, Nick Gooseberry, is at his wits' end trying to rid himself of chronic debilitating pain. In desperation he turns to The Order, a shadowy organization that promises him freedom from pain and much more. With The Order's help behind the scenes, Nick lies and blackmails his way into the highest levels of government while plunging into the blackest corners of hell until he sets his sights on ruling the world.

Sarah Johnson is a thirty-something ex-con that the system abandoned in a small town in Texas. As a dime store cashier, her biggest worries are what to eat and what to wear, but she's always late for work. Her boss decides to get rid of her for good by sending her back to prison, enticing her with a shortcut to riches. She meets the Lord along the way and manages to escape from the authorities, but the fact that she's pregnant attracts the attention of the Beast. After being whisked to the other side of the planet, her biggest worry becomes surviving.

A Palestinian schoolboy who witnessed the death of his parents grows into a world renowned terrorist driven by his thirst for revenge on his family's murderers. He hates Israel and their number one ally, the United States. Known by his Arabic nickname, Fanak (the Fox), he orchestrates terror on every continent never realizing that he's a puppet of the Beast.

The gripping plot, tender moments, plights and ambitions of each character will draw you in to this page turner you won't be able to put down.

<B>NOTE! IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SPOILERS, THIS MAY NOT BE THE REVIEW FOR YOU! I PUT THEM IN SPOILER TAGS, BUT THE REVIEW MAY NOT MAKE MUCH SENSE IF YOU DO NOT READ THE SPOILERS! :)</b>
I have a lot of thoughts on this book, and I'll try to put them into a cohesive review. :)
((these points are not in any particular order; I'm just typing them as I think of them))
-the Lord's name is taken in vain several times, bad words (think VERY bad) are used a couple of times (by the Anti-christ, but still), and a couple "minor" bad words are used a couple of times.
-there were a lot of characters, and it was hard to keep track of them all sometimes. I understand that this was how the story worked, but still...
-the cover is SUPER creepy. My seven-year-old brother was like, "(my name)? That book that you're reading looks bad!" How was I supposed to explain that to him? I just said, "Yeah, I know." :/ I basically just read this for review purposes (although it was interesting, I wouldn't recommend this to people... wait, wasn't I supposed to save that for the end of the review?? Oh, well).
-there are descriptions of demonic worship, etc. I did not like that, and basically tried to skim through those parts.
-there were some good things, really! I loved how Sarah was able to remember Scripture during times of trouble, and how the people who helped her escape from the Anti-christ were comforting her with God's word. Other than that, I actually can't remember any religious content? Besides one of the people who was captured by the Islams being a lutheran?
    <b>THINGS THAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE (plotholes???):</b>
There were a lot of things like this- I can't remember them all. However, I will try to remember them for this review. I was reading pretty fast when I read this book (but I wouldn't consider it skimming, I just wanted to find out what happened next), which is probably why I did not understand all of the things I mentioned below. The author has explained the things I mentioned in a private message, and I understand how I could have missed them. I apologize if this causes people to not read the book.
-I don't get how Esther ended up with Sarah. I mean, she says that she doesn't want to escape with them, but then she somehow ends up in the car with Sarah?? I don't get it.. (the author explained it this way when I asked him: "When the three Christians are warned to escape their confinement in Baghdad, they invite Esther, who at first refuses, then calls after them to wait for her. They go back and get her. Sarah winds up with her because neither of them speak French which is a must for Miriam.")
-The Ancient Order is not mentioned towards the end of the book. Whatever happened to that? (the author later informed me that: "In the first chapter, Nick learns that "The Ancient Order" is not really an organization as such and has no official name. That is why an official name is not mentioned after the first chapter. In reality, they may be called satanists, pagans, or even atheists or secular humanists. The unifying force is Satan. Name not required.")
So, basically, I admit that I was probably not reading things through enough and probably got the wrong impression.
But still, all in all, I would not recommend this book. Maybe to people like 16+? It was very interesting <s>although it made me kind of scared about the End Times</s> but still. :(

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review.**

Nick, founder and CEO of Dervish Corp a computer Services company, joins the Order to relieve his debilitating pain and is now embroiled in their cause.
Sarah is set up by her boss with a drug bust and goes to prison.
Farak is on a journey of hate and vengeance to avenge the death of his parents ten years ago.
How will these three stranger’s lives intersect and what will be the outcome?

A Brush with the Beast is a gripping plot driven story, richly described and fast paced. I did need to suspend belief on a few occasions. The story has a bit of everything including the occult, rituals, terrorism, micro chipping of citizens, world-domination and Christianity.

The story was a compelling read full of suspense and included many controversial topics and scenarios. However there were a lot of unanswered questions that popped up right from the start of the story. Why did Nick need to join a cult to relieve his pain? Why did Sarah’s boss set her up? These questions were never answered.
    Some storylines were left unresolved

First, I want to give a disclaimer - this book has some material that is not suited for younger readers in my opinion.  I won't go into every single detail, but language and some disturbing scenes and topics are depicted within this book. With that said, the Characters in this book are developed nicely as you dive into the complexity that makes them who they are.  I personally would NOT recommend this book to any young readers at all or to anyone that gets offended at some language or fairly descriptive explanation of certain scenes such as pagan rituals or graphic violence whether implied or direct.

This fairly dark book is kind of along the lines of the Left Behind books if you will.  An end times book that covers a lot of fallen (sinful) people where some encounter the Lord and follow him.  You really do feel the darkness in people in this book.

I'm a little torn about giving it too good of a review, mostly because of the adult nature of some portions of the book such as drug use, some foul language, graphic descriptions of some pagan rituals and violence to name a few. These adult nature portions are "committed" by the characters that fall on the non-Christian side of the story line, but I wouldn't be honest if I didn't throw out a strong caution to readers on this.

One of the things that I wished the author did a little more of was to explain how some of the events came to pass in a little more detail. For example, one of the main characters rose to power, but I don't feel like the author explained how this happened as well as it could have been explained.  It kind of just happened in a few steps over time and the reader is partially left to assume the path was logical and potentially plausible.  To be honest, if the author would have spent a little more time diving more in-depth into the details to the multiple progressive events in the main characters lives, it would have really rounded out this book quite well.

The book is left with an open ending as you really don't hear what happens with a couple of the main characters.  I am assuming that this is intended to be the first in a series of books possibly.  Will I read the next book in a potential series about these characters? To be completely honest, I am not sure.  I think if it weren't for the mature content and language that really isn't necessary, I would be interested as the characters were developed very nicely apart from some of those quick jumps and assumptions about events being legitimate and believable.

On the back cover of the book, it reads "You will laugh, cry, and cling to the edge of your seat as you follow this thrilling, international adventure, and epic battle between the ultimate good set against the ultimate evil.".  Well, I can't say that I laughed or cried when reading this novel.  It does have some thrill factor for sure, but I'm not sure I would say that I was clinging to the edge of my seat. However, I did want to continue to the end of the book to find out what happens with the characters.

This book is self-published and there were a few times where I felt it could have been edited a little better.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my unbiased review and all opinions are my own.
