BlackVue DR900S-2CH with 16GB Micro SD Card- Redefining the Dashcam

The DR900S Series redefines expectations for dashcam video fidelity and storage efficiency.

With its 8-megapixel CMOS sensor in the main camera, the DR900S-2CH captures 4K Ultra High Definition video—four times as many pixels as Full HD. The rear Full HD Sony Starvis image sensor ensures best image quality under any light. Thanks to the H.265 (HEVC) compression, your videos look better and file size is kept as small as ever.

4K UHD + Full HD Cloud Dashcam

Front cam: 8 megapixels sensor / 4K Ultra High Definition (3840×2160 @30FPS). Rear cam: 2.1 megapixels Starvis sensor / Full HD (1920×1080 @30FPS).

The front camera’s ultra-wide 162-degree angle takes full advantage of the 4K UHD resolution. The rear camera records in Full HD at a 139-degree angle with outstanding low-light sensitivity (great for cars with tint). Your BlackVue captures critical details while driving or in Parking Mode.

With BlackVue Over the Cloud, check on your car from anywhere, anytime.

4K Ultra High Definition capture

4K UHD is four times as many pixels as Full HD*. This is a huge difference, and it shows. License plates can be made out more clearly and from further away.

Besides, you don’t need a 4K monitor to appreciate 4K videos. Even on a Full HD monitor, you can zoom in much further without any visible pixelation.

Along with the regular H.264 codec, the DR900S Series features H.265, also called High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), the leading standard in 4K recording and broadcasting.

Built-in GPS and Dual-band Wi-Fi

Speed: speed data will be overlaid in the video (can be turned off in the settings). You can set speed display in Kilometers per hour (Km/h) or Miles per hour (Mph). Location: visualize your vehicle’s location in the BlackVue App or Viewer’s Map.

Built-in Impact & Motion Detection

While driving, your BlackVue detects impacts and sudden changes in speed. While parked, it also detects movements.

Videos files are marked accordingly so that you can easily find the relevant ones in the BlackVue Viewer for Windows and Mac OS or the BlackVue App for Android and iOS.

Update 08/1/2020Second summer with hot days both in MA and NY. Inside the car, it gets like hell due to completely open parking places at the office. Thank God this camera is a very solid build. No issues. Meanwhile, 2 weeks ago someone while backing touched my tow hook licence place holder and the holder replaced. thanks, I had it on camera. She did not admit her bad at the beginning but after watching the video she bought a new holder.Update 2/14/2020It is the first winter with my dashcam and it works perfectly so far. We had freezing cold days here in the Boston- NYC area and never faced a single issue. Very satisfied as an almost one year customer. Attached a new video showing a irrespective driver! Please note that This video is downloaded from the cam to the phone via BT and uploaded here!Update 12/29/2019The hot days are over with no issues and now Will see how it will behave in the harsh Boston winter. Still a very happy owner. I also had the chance to get a free testing Hotspot device from one of the known carriers and got the 2gb/$10 plan. So happy to have an active warning system all the time I park my guy!Update 07/21/2019Had the chance to park the car close to my apartment (on-street parking). Put the router in front of the window and my speed test resulted in 5 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload inside the car. Did the cloud settings and Viola! The cloud connection is DONE. Straight forward. The instructions were clear. Now I have 7/24 recording (driving and parking) and receive a push notification. Don’t plan to subscribe to the cloud. 10 min daily lives, 100 downloads per month, and push notifications are free!Just thinking about getting a hotspot (maybe the nighthawk, unlocking it, and use the 2gb/ $10 plan. Just for the push notification. So far, it provides all features as described. I Will update after using it for a longer time!!Update 07/19/2019:Have it for a week or so and working perfectly. Yesterday hardwired it with the PMP. Waited for hardwiring till I received my jump starter for any bad scenario. The overnight recording went perfect (motion sensor) no heating issues. Cut down was at 12V. I guess it recorded the whole night the active traffic. So far I am very satisfied.Original review:This is my second dashcam. I received the first one from a friend and just got used to dashcams. Once I got my new Subaru BRZ it was time to get something good on the market. Did my research and positive reviews balance more than the negatives? In addition, one of my friends is also using Blackvue DR900 and was is very happy. As seen in the picture it came with everything that was advertised. The dashcam box was sealed but the PMP was not. I guess it is just sold like that. Instructions were straight forward. I got the 16GB bundle but also purchased the popular 128 GB micro SD from another company. Wanted to give a try. Downloaded the Blackvue view on the pc, Formated (Fat32) the sad card (Blackvue Software automatically Formates in fat32). Then downloaded the app on the iPhone.Next, I installed the front and back camera. I also bought the popular adapter for the Blackvue (as seen in the picture) and attached the camera to the rearview stem. Since the pairing between the cam and phone was very fast I used live view to properly attach and align both the front and rear cam. Recording started and I checked the quality. Very very nice. It was a shiny day so the quality was top.Next, I took my card and downloaded the most recent firmware and installed the card again to the cam. Turned on the ignition and 1 minute later it was updated. This is all that I did within the first hour of receiving the cam. I will definitely update my review. I will check for any rebooting, overheating, or night-view issues. My first impression is very good. I hope it continues working like this. Thanks

4k is where it's at. Super easy to install on a Suburu Legacy 2017. Very happy, not cheap though!

"BlackVue wants you to buy their branded MicroSD card, but I use the Samsung cards and they work great."

Careful of this buyer saying the Samsung 128g cards work, they don't I bought one. I took a star down for that.

I bought this device for its cloud view ability, but it doesn't live up to the way it's promoted. Both the mobile app and the desktop application are difficult to understand and clunky. Basic options are hidden in strange places, and initial setup is hard.

As one example, to video files on the device you have to connect to it using wifi. This means you can't use your wifi connection for anything else at the same time. So when you're trying to setup the device and the cloud view at the beginning, you have to keep toggling wifi on and off on both your phone and on the device. If you're connected to the device via wifi, you can't use the cloud viewer because it thinks you don't have an internet connection, even if you do have an active cell connection. It should just use bluetooth! It's so frustrating.

And then when you're trying to set how the device can upload via wifi when it can connect to other networks - well, you basically can't. The settings for this are so difficult to find inside the app that it is nearly impossible to set. I stumbled into them once and set things up, but the device doesn't seem to be uploading anything to the cloud. I've tried to find the options again to check them, but I can't.

It seems like a quality piece of hardware, but it's hampered by really bad software that is difficult to use.

When I received the package the system was well boxed and there was no damage. When I opened the box and saw both cameras they were much more compact than I thought they would be. They feel well made and look to be a quality product. The smaller size makes them very difficult to see from the outside of the vehicle.

It took me about an hour to install everything because I really wanted to hide the wires well. I installed this in a Dodge Ram 1500 Cew Cab and there was plenty of wire to do the job. The overall install was very easy with the exception of the instruction book clarity. If you read it enough times you can figure it out but it is not as intuitive as you would think. My bumb in the road when the first power up and the system kept telling me to check SD card. I finally figured out how to format it and did the V8 smack to my head but the process could be clearer in the book.

When it started recording eveything was very easy. I used my IPAD to link to the WIFI and the actual setup is very easy to customize to you liking. I played back a few videos on my IPAD and they were very clear. I think I will continue to fine tune things as I go.

      Pros:
      Very stealthy
      Good Quality Construction
      Simple to install
      Crisp playback
      IOS interface capable
      Used Samsung 128 SD card
Enough of everything to install the system

      Cons:
      Instruction manual could be better
Would like to see the included SD card to be upped to one with at least 64
Almost became car sick watching the playback of the rear view camera.....lol

I will update the review as time goes by but so far so good. I would recommend this system to someone looking to have a serious dash cam in their vehicle.

I also used the Snap nGo connection for the QBD port. I have set in in parking mode to test the longevity of the recording and to make sure it shuts off correctly before the battery drains. If the battery does drain at least I’m at home to take care of it.

I love this dashcam! I saw many reviews for it online and now having it in person is really showing me all the hype is worth it. The app works great and the quality is amazing. After someone hit my last car in a roundabout from not knowing how they worked I knew I needed one of these for proof in case another accident happened on the road that wasn't as easy to explain to the police via the paint. Everyday there are crazy people on the road and getting protection is worth it!

4.0 out of 5 stars DR900S-2CH; Discrete Installation; works with 128GB Samsung Pro Endurance MicroSD

The DR900S-2CH is capable of being installed discretely — precisely what I was looking for in a dash camera system. The technology will continue to improve in the coming years, but this system satisfies my current expectations (although it doesn't exceed them). I installed a Samsung Pro Endurance 128GB microSD card, and it records smoothly in 'Extreme' mode, using the default H.265 compression, and I ordered and installed the recommended CPL filter from EDR Auto in France to reduce solar glare and dash reflection.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money and not what the add says it is.
Reviewed in Canada on December 9, 2020
Movement detection does not work. Parking mode does not work. Rear camera does not sync to cloud. I had it professionally installed and I'm very upset with the product quality. The add makes it seem so magical and then you use it and realize it's not even what the add made it out to be. Not to mention it uses up all the data on my phone. Waste of money.
