Product Description

The Food Tree Cat Toy is based on the original Catit Food Maze but with several major design upgrades! The Food Tree is difficult to knock over thanks to its new broad stable base, and the top opening was reduced to prevent cheating cats from directly accessing the kibble in the cat bowl. The Senses 2.0 Food Tree acts as a cat slow feeder and is the feeding solution for cats that tend to eat quickly. Cats are required to move the dry kibble or treats from the top to the bottom of the cat puzzle by pawing through the side openings. The kibble ends up in a whisker-stress free cat food bowl, which prevents spillage. The slow feeder cat bowl can be set to various levels of difficulty by rotating the middle disc and adjusting the opening sizes. This cat puzzle feeder is also super easy to disassemble and clean; simply remove the base and top then hand wash. We recommend that you handwash this item with natural soap (free of abrasive materials) and water. Cat it is focused on creating cat enrichment toys for all cats especially indoor cats. Cat toys for indoor cats should encourage a cat’s natural foraging and hunting behaviors. Our Catit Senses 2.0 lines has created a wide variety of cat toys, with this in mind. To keep your cat interested, you need to change their toy set-up often, Catit Senses 2.0 are the only cat toy series that allows you to create new and exciting setups for your cat, quickly and easily. Each toy was designed to activate and stimulate your cat’s unique senses, all in one fresh, green style to match any home interior, no matter the arrangement.

The question is: How much time do you have (and want to spend) on maintenance?

The question is: How much time do you have (and want to spend) on maintenance?
I am retired and I bought this feeding device just as the COVID-19 mandate to stay home went into effect. Both factors are important in understanding my evaluation of this device. You see a ‘3’ above; but if I could, I’d give three different ratings—3, 3.5 and 4-–to fully reflect my assessment. As of right now, I give it a four because I’m home all the time. When the isolation restrictions are finally lifted, that is likely to change to a 3.5. As for the 3 rating, that’s my assessment based on my advice to people not in isolation and not retired. Why these ratings, you ask? It’s a matter of how much time you have and are willing to spend providing maintenance for this device. The first issue is that after my cat has batted around the kibbles for a while, at least a third of them get trapped in ways so that she can’t access them. One problem is that the oval access openings on the two top layers don’t always line up with the holes through which the kibbles can drop down to the lower layers. Some pieces get pulled over out of reach or to the rim under the oval access openings and that rim on the first and second layers is just a little too high for my average-size cat to get pieces over the rim. It’s not that she’s a klutz. She even has claws. It’s that if she is able to get a bit of purchase on a piece, it usually slides back down before she can get it out. What works best is for her is to move the pieces down to the second layer through the holes. Alas, there’s now an even bigger problem. The base of that middle layer is actually two pieces, with the top layer slightly smaller in diameter and slanted toward the side. The gap along the edge between that top piece and the side of the device, along with this slant, means quite a few kibbles get stuck in this trench. Granted, it is narrow, but the perfect width to catch a kibble like Iams Proactive Health or Purina One Advantage. [See photo.]The result is that when I hear her stop trying to access food, I have to go in to dislodge the pieces that she can’t get to on the top layers. (The bottom layer, by the way, works terrifically...if she can get the pieces to drop through to this layer.)Now, my cat finds this thing entertaining enough to use it, until she is delayed gratification beyond her kitty patience. The problems above have certainly contributed to her declining enthusiasm, which I have combated in two ways. One is that I throw in a couple of Greenies twice a day. She seems to be able to smell them distinctly and will usually stay engaged (and eat some of her food) until she has retrieved all the Greenies, which is easier to do because they are bigger than kibbles; thus, they don’t get stuck in the trench or behind the rims. The other intervention is to sit with her while she works at getting the food, which keeps her engaged longer. (This is not the first cat I’ve had who likes an audience when performing, so I suspect other cats are like this also.)Both of these interventions, of course, involve time, as do the dislodging efforts. For me, it’s worth it because she is eating slower and less and her kitty brain is busy...and I have the time. Back in my working days, however, I could have used it only in the evenings when I didn’t have plans or just for large-treat dispensing. It seems from the product description that this company has paid attention to customer feedback in the past, so I do hope they are still monitoring this site and see my comments. It really is a great feeding tool that could use a little more tweaking, like making the rims on the bottom of the oval openings on the top layers just a little shorter so that they still prevent kibbles from falling out but make it easier for cats to get pieces over the rim. Also, that top piece of the second layer needs to be redesigned so that it doesn’t slope toward the side and doesn’t create a trench between the top layer and the side (maybe raising the lip on the top piece and curving it toward the side to cover up that gap, while still allowing the top piece to slide for controlling the size of the holes.
