It works!
In fact, it works EXTREMELY WELL.
The management interface is clear and well thought out. It allows display of all sorts of information and statistics. I chose the "normal compatibility" for balancing (where sessions with the same source and destiatnion IP are pinned to a particular WAN) and I've had NO PROBLEMS connection with sites like Bank of America, PayTrust, or various credit card sites.
I maintain a 24x7 VPN from a Windows system on my local network to my office... this works perfectly.
I have a Verizon Network Extender (which routes cell calls via my DSL lines to improve signal coverage)... this works perfectly.
My TiVo and my DirectTV receivers all download content without any problem. Perfect.
My ONLY complaint is: Where has this device BEEN all my life? Who is Peplink and why aren't they more well known? Why is this device so darn hard to find??
VERY nice device. No complaints. Highly recommended.
Config: Two DSL lines, no 3G/4G backup. DSL Line speed (each line): 3Mbps down, 512Kbps up.
Quick Update 2/02/13:
I have had this device in service for more than a month now, and it continues to delight me. I haven't seen a single compatibility problem using two DSL lines using "standard" compatibility settings. I've put the device under as much load as I can, for as long as I can (extensive video downloads, streaming video downloads from Amazon and DirecTV, and even multi-day long non-stop uploads for online backup of one of my systems) and zero problems. In one afternoon in December 2012, my home LAN went from F'ed up to working great. I'm a hero at home. Hence my exuberant review here.
The router was easy to configure using Internet Explorer or FireFox browser, even though in my special setup one WAN has a static IP and the other gets its IP address dynamically. It took only about 20 minutes to set up the Balance 20L. There is no special software to install on your PC, either. Everything including help files and a setup "wizard" is provided the router itself. It's the cleanest router setup I've ever used.
My two WANs have different maximum data rates, and the router can be configured to direct traffic proportionately - although its default behavior configuration works just fine. The IP radio is faster than the cable modem, but is not completely reliable. The Balance 20L checks every 5 seconds whether both WAN links are working. If one fails, all traffic is switched to the other WAN port until the failed link comes back up.
When both ports are up, which is 98% of the time, all my internet activities are faster and smoother than ever before. Skype works flawlessly, even when two Skype video connections are active at the same time.
The Balance 20L has so far (2 weeks) been completely reliable. It correctly switched traffic several times when the IP radio link went down, and sends me an email message when either link goes down or comes back up.
The Balance 20L does not incorporate a WiFi capability. But if you have a WiFi router, you can probably use it with this device. All I had to do was disable DHCP and NAT in my old WiFi router, then connect one of its LAN "switch" ports (not its WAN port) to one of the LAN ports of the Balance 20L. Presto! WiFi in the house again.
I'm really delighted with this product, especially after reading about the difficulties and reliability issues some people have experienced with dual-WAN routers made by other manufacturers. This product works well. It does what's needed for home or individual use when very high reliability Internet service is an absolute requirement.
(Decreased to 4 stars) Last month or so, we have been having an issue where the modem will freeze, requiring a power cycle reboot every 1-2 days, usually discovered when we start up in the morning. Device does not respond to ping and can't access via web admin tool or SSH. Not sure what the issue is but Peplink support has been responsive, although the problem has not resolved yet.
Original review from December 2015: Like many other reviewers, I have tried several other multi-WAN routers that support load balancing and WAN link failover for 2 WAN connections - cable modem and ADSL. This is my favorite to date. It works. Configuration is easy, the web admin tool is straight forward, and the feature set is very robust for this price point. I particularly like the ability to see real-time graphs of inbound/outbound traffic from each WAN port. It also supports syslog output but doesn’t allow you to set the level of reporting. All 4 LAN ports are 10/100/1000. We also use it for VLANs, QoS management, and VPN access to our network. I have noted that the CPU load (conveniently presented on the landing page dashboard) spikes under heavy traffic conditions.

The traffic management on this is good and seems a bit better than the older version. Running 2 internet connections, one low bandwidth DSL and one Cable keeps the family from complaining when a connection goes down and ensures uptime if you're working from home.
This has a decent set of features for routing, traffic blocking etc if you poke around.
It doesn't have explicit control of devices. So for example you want to turn off internet access for your kids phones after hours. You'll need to have a WIFI access point that does that. You can schedule a LAN port but that's brute force since with this you'll probably need a switch if you're wiring the house or office.
I'm used to seeing uptime of 200+ days on this and will report back if I see otherwise.
