I've been using it in Skype mostly and it works like a charm. But the PS3 Eye works on the PS3 too. I'm not really using it there now, but I will once the Playstation Move comes out. I already got this part of it, so I just have to get the controller. Great product.
Main review:
Concept design: It is a bit bulky and weird in shape but it works. I have dropped this a couple times but it works perfect still, take in the fact that I didn't drop this like 15 ft in the air, a good 5ft onto tile. It also has a nice tilt function so if you place the camera high up you can still aim the camera down.
Visual: For a simple camera it really does well at Hi-Res without any lag what so ever. But then again it does matter how much movement and how many objects are in the camera to pick up. As just one person playing casually it gets the job done. It is not that hard to focus you just need someone else to focus for you while you stay in the one spot, or just set an object in the desired aiming location and focus from there.
Audio: I have noticed that sometimes the noise cancelling technology doesn't work to well, but this is only minor. It does however pick up me sitting from 15ft away just fine without having to yell which is very nice.
Games: As of now there aren't a ton but Eye of Judgment this is a fun game if you like magic the gathering card game or just collecting cards. There are also some nice family games on the PSN to buy.
Overall: It is nice to have if you are looking to the future of gaming or just looking to chat and take pictures. It is sometimes better to buy the camera in a bundle pack though, if you like the game it comes with.
However, what I was shocked to find, though was how well this also worked as a normal PC Webcam.
Pros:
1. Picture was smooth, probably because the framerate can go up to 120 FPS.
2. Software drivers for various verisons of Windows, including Windows 7.
3. The camera can lower resolution and do a wider angle, which is very nice.
4. Microphone was very nice.
5. Once set up, worked with Skype, OSB for Twitch streaming, about everything I tried.
Cons:
1. Camera only supports up to 640x480 (however, not much of one as that's a sensible resolution that won't eat your bandwith)
2. PC Drivers are not by Sony, or officially supported, you have to find them. There was an annoying bug that evverytime I reboot my pc, I have to unplug and replug the camera to get the microphone to work in Windows 7.
3. PC Drivers are 32-bit only, and that meant, for example, I coudl only run the 32 bit version of OSB to stream for Twitch.
The Camera isn't an amazing piece of hardware, it's just a decent piece of hardware at an amazing price, that can work for a PS3, a PC, be reasonably modified into an IR camera, etc. For that, it really deserves 5 stars.
Be sure to buy the mount for this, as it weighs next to nothing and moves easily.
If you're trying to decide on if this is the right model for IR tracking, I did not remove my IR filter and it worked well right out of the box unmodified. All you need to do is find the proper exposure and gain.
If you are on the same mission I was feel free to reply to this and I'll provide you links.
