Product Description
It’s important to get the right air conditioner for the job! The LG LW1216ER is ideal for cooling medium rooms up to 550 sq. ft. This unit has 3 cooling and fan speeds and a 24 hour timer to create a cooling schedule. 4-way air deflection lets the flow of air be directed where it's needed most whether cooling, dehumidifying or just circulating air. If there is a power outage, the auto restart feature will automatically turn your unit back on when power is restored. Other features include a remote control, easy window installation kit, removable, washable filter and a check filter alert.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

A few notes:
1. The adhesive strip which applied to the bottom edge of the window is very sticky and very fragile. If you get any bit of it stuck on a fingertip, that part will break off from the main strip.
2. The manual has not been updated to match all features of the unit; e.g., it says that the remote control requires one battery. It requires two. But the main installation instructions of the manual still apply.
3. Make sure that the screws for the side panels are applied so that they're invisible from the inside.
4. The unit no longer comes with a drain . Apparently, newer air conditioner models have dropped this "feature." I'm not worried about this because I live in the relatively non-humid west coast. But if you live in a high-humidity area, you should be sure that the unit tips backward a bit towards the outside so that any excess condensation can drip out the back.
5. The remote control is basic. It would be nicer if it would provide a visual indication of temperature setting, fan setting, etc.
6. My window is about 40 inches wide, which exceeds the 35" expansion of the side panels. I covered the open spaces on each end with a piece of 1" thick Owens-Corning foamular (rigid foam insulation). In fact I filled the entire space between the window frame edge and the air conditioning unit (which completely covers the side panels). Cut the foamular a tiny bit bigger, and you can "force" the foam piece into the space with a little pressure; the foam will thus stay firmly in place and effectively block all the open spaces. If you don't want to buy an entire 4'x8' sheet of the foam, Home Depot sells a 2'x2' square for about $6. If you still have tiny open cracks around the foam, a little piece of masking tape will cover any gaps.
7. With the unit in place, my open lower window almost touches the top of the window frame. This means that there is insufficient room to install the included L-bracket as an added protection to prevent the window from being opened further from the outside (e.g., by an intruder). I simply drilled a hole completely through the front window frame and halfway through the back window frame, and then I pushed a big nail into the hole to prevent movement of the window.
8. Some reviews complained that the unit is too noisy. I, however, feel that it's as quiet as a window unit can possibly be. The compressor makes MUCH less noise than my 14,000 BTU Whynter portable air conditioner, which Good Housekeeping ranked in 2018 as quieter than other units on the market.
9. Outside sounds are now more noticeable when the conditioner is not running. This is unavoidable given since I can no longer close the inside window and the outer storm window. If the sounds of crickets bothers you at night, you're probably out of luck.
For some, noise is not a major concern as it can even be welcomed in moderation to act as white noise masking unwanted sounds. For me, a/c noise while sleeping can be a bother. However, I have slept very well with this LG while set on its energy saving mode. That setting allows fan to shut off with the cooling compressor – but with fan coming back on in 90 second intervals and running for 30 seconds to sample air temperature until triggered by a rise in temperature to run the compressor. This energy saving schemes seems excellent to me. No noise for a bit at a time and yet the air is kept from overly stagnating. The Frigidaire by contrast runs for 3 minutes after the compressor stops, then waits 10 minutes to run the fan for a super short 10 second span sampling the temperature. In that time span, I often grew a bit uncomfortable with still air becoming warm. The Haier runs 3 minutes like the Frigidaire after compressor stops and waits 10 minutes before recirculates the air for a 3 minute pattern.
Both the LG and Frigidaire get extra energy saving by slinging condensation water from the compressor onto the back exchange fins. In heavy rain or high air moisture, the outward fan doing the slinging gets swamped by too much water to plow through, sometimes. This appears to be more a problem with my Frigidaire unit than with my new LG. Simple solution for me is to not use energy saving mode that stalls the fan in spurts from spraying the water over the outside fins – and also avoid using low fan speed. Medium or high fan speed plow through the water build-up well. The LG has a black drain plug on outside right rear. So far in the humid Florida weather, I have had no need to do this, but would simply open and then close the plug when circumstances allowed to return to better energy efficiency.
The most pleasant aspect of this LG for me is the uncommon inclined cooling grill.at a 30 degree angle, approximately. While the Frigidaire and Haier have 4-way air direction control neither send cool air to my ceiling were hotter air rises. The LG incline grill sends cooling air that kisses my ceiling. I don’t experience the stratifying pockets of hot air like most other a/c’s leave. The Frigidaire is a solid, well built unit with a very high Consumer Report rating – but its 4-way air control seems to me to direct air flow marginally. I like the appearance of the LG over the Frigidaire or Haier; it resembling the a/c units found under the window and installed in the wall of most upper quality motels. The 6000 LG seems to run about as quite as those units. If you have experienced staying in a motel you’ll have a fairly good idea of the low 52 decibel range of this 6000 LG. .
