Happily Ever After: Small Town Romance Books (Havenport Romance) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

After a fall from literary stardom and becoming the heroine in her own romance story, Beth Holmes has turned around her career and her love life. She owes it all to one very special person.

Jarred Watson has loved Beth since he read her first novel and suspected the heroine was the embodiment of the author. But the road to romance was fraught with pitfalls. He almost lost everything because of a conniving agent and a little white lie that got out of hand. At the eleventh hour, with honesty and hard work, their book sales are off the charts and a movie deal is in negotiations.

Interfering families, changed plans, and missed deadlines take their toll. Will they go their separate ways, or will Holmes and Watson continue their literary collaboration and personal partnership in order to find their own happily-ever-after?

Part One (I’ll Be Home for Christmas) was previously published in Christmas in Havenport and Part Two (The Game’s AFoot) was previously published in Welcome to Havenport. Part Three (Happily Ever After) brings you the exclusive, never before published, final piece to Beth and Jarred’s story and a seat at their wedding, where you can witness their happily ever after… Enjoy!

Top reviews from the United States

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of two writers combining their talents. He writes hard-edge adventure and she write romance. What could go wrong? But when Beth Holmes and J.D. Watson stumble across a real-life crime the stakes go up. It's then they realize how much they care for each other ...and the that the villains they meet are more dangerous than the ones they created Riverbend  in their novel.

Part One – Beth Holmes is a bestselling romance author but when she responds to a nasty review, her sales plummet and she’s left wondering if she’s sealed her fate. Her agent convinces her to attend a book signing in Havenport but when she discovers a rival author is also attending, she wonders if she should just throw in the towel. A chance meeting with a handsome man reignites Beth’s creativity and she writes through the night. But when she discovers who her mystery man is, will Beth leave or take a chance on being a romantic heroine in her own romance? I loved part one! As an author, myself, I could relate to Beth’s feelings on a bad review and the crossroads she appears to be facing. Her witty inner dialogue made me laugh a few times. Jarred is swoon-worthy for sure. The romance was sweet yet toe-curling. The conflict becomes clear and Beth’s reaction was honest. Love the humorous play on Holmes and Watson.

Part Two – Beth and Jarred are back in Havenport, only it’s far more dangerous than either of them realizes. They made the decision to collaborate last Christmas but it’s more difficult than they thought. Every time Jarred sends her notes, Beth cringes with self-doubt. She needs to confess her feelings to him before it pulls them apart. But that’s the least of their issues when Beth accidentally stumbles upon a criminal plot in the least-likely place. Can Jarred protect her or will he be too late? A beautifully written romantic suspense by Casie and it only made me love this couple more. Casie kicks up the adrenaline at just the right spots and has a talent for romantic suspense. Well done!

Part Three – Beth and Jarred are tying the knot and plans quickly go awry. They’re trying to finish their latest book days before the wedding. Their families are interfering with the wedding plans and all Beth and Jarred want to do is escape. Nothing is going according to their wishes, not even the bachelor party. Jarred sees Beth’s stress brimming over and decides to take matters into his own hands. All he wants is to spend the rest of his life with Beth, to give her the Happily Ever After she deserves, but is it too much to ask? Beth and Jarred are my new favorite romantic couple and their love story is honest and true. Life gets in the way, sometimes, and it’s what you do with it that matters. Beth and Jarred compliment each other and their romance makes you believe that happily ever after can happen to us all. Best Casie book to date!

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author in the hopes I'd review it.

Favorite Character/Quote: Beth Holmes. Beth is a best-selling author who’s still reeling from a horrible review and the last place she wants to be is at a book signing with her nemesis. I loved her sense of humor, her honesty and her toe-curling kisses with her sexy rescuer. I laughed, I swooned, it was irresistible.

Good story and good characters. Likeable. It got a little slow for me for awhile. It's an easy read and light romance.

Hmmm, it feels like I should have a little trepidation about writing a book review for a book that starts out with a bad book review! I actually chose this book at my favorite book review site because I am a freelance editor and writer myself; any novel that has authors as characters is a book that will interest me. As I am a top reviewer at Amazon and Goodreads, I was also intrigued by the reviewer aspect as well! It’s one of those funny little things in this modern self-publishing environment: authors and reviewers can actually chat back channel on places like Goodreads or Booksprout. Some of it is awesome; I adore little love notes from authors. But I know from first-hand experience that not all contact behind the scenes is positive. I give honest reviews so sometimes authors are not happy with what I have to say. I've had one go so far as to attempt to publicly shame me on her blog. Seriously, it is just on review!

But on to the story. This is the first book I have read by this author, and it felt a little overwritten to me in places. Also, I thought there were places that were a bit of an information dump. Not quite sure how I felt about the injection of the stuff from the Havenport newspaper. Are there actually small-town papers like that these days, with gossip columns, or is that a throwback from the past? I did like that each part felt unique, which isn't necessarily easy to do in a story like this. I thought the hero’s name was a little bizarre. I kept reading it like it was a verb (jard) and not a name (jer-ed); which way is it, I wonder? All in all, though, I did enjoy this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Beth Alexander’s career is sinking while JD Watson’s is on top. When their agent suggests they get together and learn from each other, more than writing a new series heats up. Along with some romance and hot sex there are bad guys after our H&H, which provides nail-biting excitement to the story.

This is my first read by this author and while the story is a good story, I felt lost in some parts of what I was reading. One minute I’m reading how the H&H are meeting, falling in love and writing a novel together; then in part two the heroine is in charge of a big get together for the town with bad guys after the H&H. It felt like she left out parts of the conversation in many parts of the book. I did enjoy part three where the hero does something pretty romantic for the heroine. (I don’t want to give it away). This was the best part of the story.

I think it was somewhat refreshing reading a book about the whole literary process with no shortage of suspense. I liked how clean the story was, divided into parts. It allowed my brain to have a short break before I tackled the next part while processing the huge part I just finished. There were so many layers to this story that I couldn’t help but be drawn to the pages, kept on turning them as soon as I started. The flow was consistent and nothing felt rushed or anti-climactic. This book held the right amount of surprises that kept my on my toes throughout.

I received this as a review copy and am leaving this freely.
