Purchase options and add-ons
Dear Universe,
Is anyone out there?
Thinking no one is reading, a blogger who calls herself LBH writes about her most personal feelings, especially her overwhelming loneliness. She goes from day to day showing a brave face to the world while inside she longs to know how it would feel if one person cared about her.
Alex Bartlett cares. He’s reading her posts in Daytona Beach, Florida. Nursing his own broken heart and trust issues, he finds himself falling for this sensitive, vulnerable woman whose feelings mirror his own. Following a trail of clues LBH has inadvertently revealed, he discovers that she lives in the small town of Midway, Utah. He makes his way there just after Thanksgiving, determined to find LBH. Maybe she’s a Lisa, Lori, or a Luanne. Instead, he finds a woman named Aria, a waitress at the Mistletoe Diner, who encourages Alex in his search while serving his pie along with some much-needed sympathy and companionship.
Alex finally finds his LBH, a woman who is as beautiful and kind as he imagined she would be. How can he tell her that he knows her secret? What’s holding him back? Could it be his feelings for Aria?

About the author

Richard Paul Evans
When Richard Paul Evans wrote the #1 best-seller, The Christmas Box, he never intended on becoming an internationally known author.
Officially, he was an advertising executive, an award-winning clay animator for the American and Japanese markets, candidate for state legislature and most importantly, husband and father. The Christmas Box was written as an expression of love for his (then) two daughters. Though he often told them how much he loved them, he wanted to express his love in a way that would be timeless. In 1993, Evans reproduced 20 copies of the final story and gave them to his closest relatives and friends as Christmas presents. In the month following, those 20 copies were passed around more than 160 times, and soon word spread so widely that bookstores began calling his home with orders for it.
His quiet story of parental love and the true meaning of Christmas made history when it became simultaneously the #1 hardcover and paperback book in the nation. Since then, more than eight million copies of The Christmas Box have been printed. The Emmy award-winning CBS television movie based on The Christmas Box starred Maureen O'Hara and Richard Thomas. Two more of Evans's books were produced by Hallmark and starred such well-known actors as James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave, Naomi Watts, Mary McDonough and Academy award winner Ellen Burstyn. He has since written 10 consecutive New York Times bestsellers and is one of the few authors in history to have hit both the fiction and non-fiction bestseller lists. He has won three awards for his children's books including the 1998 American Mothers book award and two first place Storytelling World awards. Evans's latest book, The 5 Lessons a Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth, is now available.
Of his success, Evans says: "The material achievements of The Christmas Box will never convey its true success, the lives it has changed, the families brought closer together, the mothers and fathers who suddenly understand the pricelessness of their children's fleeting childhood. I share the message of this book with you in hopes that in some way, you might be, as I was, enlightened."
During the Spring of 1997, Evans founded The Christmas Box House International, an organization devoted to building shelters and providing services for abused and neglected children. Such shelters are operational in Moab, Vernal, Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah and Lucre, Peru. To date, more than 16,000 children have been housed in Christmas Box House facilities.
As an acclaimed speaker, Evans has shared the podium with such notable personalities as President George W. Bush, President George and Barbara Bush, former British Prime Minister John Majors, Ron Howard, Elizabeth Dole, Deepak Chopra, Steve Allen, and Bob Hope. Evans has been featured on the Today show and Entertainment Tonight, as well as in Time, Newsweek, People, The New York Times, Washington Post, Good Housekeeping, USA Today, TV Guide, Reader's Digest, and Family Circle. Evans lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife, Keri, and their five children.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2024Love the story and the characters. How intricately and even poetically they are developed. You feel with them, fall with them, climb back up with them, cry with them and love with them. I give this the highest rating. It is deeply moving and beautifully written. This is the 2nd book I have read by this author and so far he has hit them out of the park! Now I want to read all his books! You won’t be sorry reading this one. It delivers and it is not R-rated!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2017My wife and I read this together, aloud, over the Christmas holiday. Though it takes place during Christmas, it would be an appropriate, fun read any time of year. I don't know if "The Mistletoe Secret" has been, or will be, turned into a "Hallmark Channel Movie", but it should be. Much of it is predictable (as anyone who has read Richard Paul Evans would expect), but there are periodic unexpected twists, and it never devolves into saccharine sweetness, though it does have a satisfyingly happy ending. I may not call it a "page turner" in terms of suspense level, but we read it over the course of four or five evenings, and I never wanted to put it down, all the way to the last page. I didn't give it 5 stars, simply because it isn't a book I could see myself re-reading multiple times. But I definitely do think I would enjoy reading it again in a few years.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2017Richard Paul Evans never ceases to amaze me with pulling me in from the very beginning. Always good story line, without all the overtones of sex, drugs, and crime. It's just the right amount of knowing the world today, embracing it, however having the ability to write a great story that has all the nuances of real life. After losing my daughter to cystic fibrosis this year, I needed something to read that I knew would soothe my soul. I was in pain. I was able to read this book with emotions that reflected more of the story than transfixing it into my own life. I needed something light, yet rich with love and true emotion. I just ordered another Evans book two night ago. I am already more than satisfied. Some novels are slow to capture my interest. I've yet to have that problem with his writing. I am pulled into the story from the very first paragraph. The sign of a great writer. I have read the Walk Series, started with the Christmas Box years ago. I read it aloud as my husband painted my son's bedroom. I even cried as I read the poignant parts! I read the entire book while he painted the room, and my son sat there the entire time. A wonderful family memory. I am a grief and loss Therapist. I suggest his books to clients if they are similar to what they are going through. It is patently apparent that he has lived a wide range of emotions. Read any of his books. They are all great. I am now reading The Broken Road. I just finished a great book on lonliness, The Mistletoe Secret. My Kindle is full of Richard Paul Evans books!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2016Richard Paul Evans latest addition to the MIstletoe Collection is a sweet, intriguing story.
We meet Alex, a lonely salesman from Florida, who is still reeling from a divorce after his wife cheated on him. His friends at work encourage him to get back in to the dating game, even trying an online dating service, but after all is said and done it really isn't for him. One night while searching the internet, he stumbles ( Maybe fate pushed him a little) on a blog written by an equally lonely woman. She writes only to the "Universe" thinking no one will see her blog and signs her entries LBH. Alex is a little more than curious about her words and it touches something in him..He understands her and relates to her sadness. So much so that after reading part of her last entry, "It's time to go home", he sets out to find her. After some research based on her blog posts. He heads to Utah and embarks on his mission. What he discovers along the way are quirky, likeable characters and some that will challenge his thinking. Especially over pie at the local diner. Finding the mysterious LBH in time will mean more than realizes but is he looking in the right direction?
This is such a good book and will keep readers captivated and feeling many emotions. I was particulary moved by the blog posts. I love the idea that someone could be so moved to action just from another's words. Richard Paul Evans does such an amazing job putting heart and spirit in all of his books. The Mistletoe Secret is no exception. I loved the vivid details of winter in Utah and the spunky dialogue of the characters. Climb the mountain and read this gem!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2018While this is a 2016 book of the Mistletoe series by Richard Paul Evans, this was one of the most enjoyable. The characters are believable, the settings in Orlando and in Utah are believable and entrancing and the plot is possible. I thoroughly enjoyed the Florida setting with the three male friends as they support their newly divorced work buddy. Traveling through Utah in search of an internet blogger he's become entranced with leads him to some humorous situations as he tracks down someone with the initials LBH in a place so foreign to him as Midway Utah. This is a fast read, but a great read for the Christmas season...It really captures the personalities of so many of the residents who live in the small towns of Utah.
