FAQ
Q: Is it necessary to install driver before using?
A: A driver is necessary for VeriMark for Windows 10. User can either manually install by downloading the latest driver from our support page and following the step instructions or using the Windows Optional driver install from Synaptics. VeriMark Guard is a plug and play dongle and no drivers are needed.
Q: Where can I download the driver that I need?
A: Drivers can be downloaded from our official site support page: kensington.com/software/verimark-setup/ by selecting the device and following the installation instructions.
Q: What's the difference between manual and optional driver?
A:
- Manual driver is for advanced users or hosts managed by an organization that don’t have Windows Updates rights due to limitations on the Windows policies. Also, some users might want to use manual driver install to either upgrade to latest driver or for troubleshooting purposes.
- Optional drivers are managed by Windows Updates. The VeriMark drivers are marked as optional drivers for any unknown device connected to the host. Make sure Windows is up to date, running the latest release for optional drivers to become available.
Q: What should I do if VeriMark couldn't recognize my device? (Unknown device issue)
A: Unknown device issue is simply a unrecognized peripheral connected to the host. In order to fix this issue the user has to install the drivers for VeriMark using one of the methods explained on the support page.
Q: How to solve error code 10 issue?
A: Error 10 is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers. Reinstalling the latest drivers may solve the issue.

Seeing how cheap this was compared to other hardware I was hesitant, but Kensington is a brand I trust so I took the leap. It installed the needed drivers in Windows 11 Pro immediately on insertion and within two minutes I had it programmed and working for Windows Hello login, Microsoft 365, and OneDrive Personal Drive. Kensington pulled through.
I am using it in the USB 2.0 port on the left side of the laptop and when it’s ready to read, it engages the blue light letting you know it’s ready to scan, then turns off as soon as the biometrics pass.
It works quickly, even with 2.0 (lower power, why I chose it), and the driver it uses from Windows works well. I didn’t even get a hit for a second/better driver with Iobit DriverBooster Pro, so I am pleased Kensington delivered.
It came rattling in the box, which I very much disliked, but it’s a solid component that works well. I recommend. I can’t speak for its longevity, yet, but I will if anything negative happens. No news is good news. Cheers!
1. This is a security hardware device. It must have direct access to your motherboard. Most laptops have a USB directly attached to the motherboard and do not run through a hub. But the USB ports on the FRONT of your desktop are not attached directly to your motherboard! It's a hub! Therefore this device will not work as it detects the hub as a possible MIM (man in middle attack) and will correctly refuse to work.
FIX: Buy a USB cable, run it to the back of the desktop PC and plug the finger reader into the other end, bit of tape to hold it to your table and reboot. Open the "hello" section and add it as you need it.
Driver problems: Win11 had problems with this reader. But if you look at the dates on the reviews they are old, years old. It's fixed for 99% of users now and requires nothing more than a reboot.
WORST CASE SCENARIO: Driver won't load? Manufacturer website has it all covered. Easy even for non techs.
Failed Reads: Usually just moist fingers or read needs cleaning. Glasses cleaning cloths are the best. Do not use cleaning supplies or it may not work again.
Hope this helps. I thoughly recommend it! It's got more to offer if you need it and I have not one problem to report.
I have two of these, and both of them have fallen apart as others have stated. The bezel around the fingerprint reader itself pops out and the whole thing just falls apart and it no longer works. I tried super gluing the bezel back onto them- but it's a dicey repair as any glue wicked or dripped onto the reader surface could render it useless. That one no longer works reliably enough to bother using it at this point. The other I've wrapped a small zip tie around the USB plug portion to keep the reader bezel and cover together. It makes the reader stick out a little further, but it works, as long as I don't attempt to remove or re-insert it.
This is clearly a design flaw which Kensington needs to address. This is a fatal flaw which quickly deadlines the product rendering it useless. Based on the mode of failure, I do not suspect I just received two with manufacturing defects (they were not purchased at the same time). This is an inherent weakness in the design which causes the product to fail if it is inserted and removed more than a few times (in my case, less than 10 times each). The package simply cannot withstand the pushing / pulling forces associated with inserting and removing it from the port more than a few times. As there is no other way to grasp it or press it into the port, the package design, construction and / or materials are simply inadequate for the application.

Initial review
Setup couldn't be simpler on windows 10. Just plug it in, then setup your fingerprints in windows account settings > sign-in options (just go to the link on the included setup card for a step-by-step if you're unsure). No special software required. Fingerprint recognition is so l faster than the reader on my Lenovo Thinkpad. My keyboard has a couple well placed usb ports, so it's super convenient.
My only gripes are getting the cover off the usb plug was very difficult (only one working thumb at the moment having smashed the other one yesterday), and it'd be really nice if they offered a desktop cable/ dock for a few bucks more (or a keyboard with this built in, or a convenient port for it). My main use is for a laptop which already has a fingerprint reader, but which is inaccessible when the laptop is used in a docking station with external monitors (with the lid shut out of reach).

O grande problema é que não é mais compatível com a versão mais nova do Windows. Daí simplesmente não consegui usar.
