I love how it is narrated word for word, and with the NIV and the KJV versions, with the actors voices subtly heard in the background speaking native tongues and (according to Rasalingam, a combo of different languages). They hired large amounts of local actors and talent from Morocco where it was shot, leaving both the set and the actors leading to such an engulfing experience of how Jesus's interactions went down.
Some.of the most gripping parts for me, were when Jesus was confronted many times by the Pharisee's. With it being shot in Morocco with local actors and extras, all the screaming and yelling at Jesus seems very realsitic, because the actors themselves are probably Muslim and found it easy to be upset with Jesus (there probably wasn't much acting at all...). Those moments where Jesus faced the extreme persecution are very gripping. The most gripping from all the other films made about Jesus that I've seen, and I've seen a lot.
I also enjoyed how the production crew decided to interpret the scenes where Jesus is speaking, but the Book of John doesn't necessarily nail down where exactly they were at and what Jesus amd the disciples were doing. Some of commented thatbit was odd for them, but I loved it. One of my favorite scenes is when Jesus is revealing to us the metaphor of us being as sheep and Him as the Shephard. It's an incredible montage showing shephards hearding there sheep into their gates (pens?) and how the devil subverts the gate, and how the hired hand does not care for the sheep. That shot ends with Jesus the Christ carrying a lamb, and I can see myself as that little lamb in the hands of Almighty God. It's very moving.
Jesus of Nazareth is my other favorite movie about Jesus of all time. Robert Powell is incredible in the role. But with that being a movie, they had to write a lot of dialogue. With this being a Word for Word narration, you can just sit back and hear the Word of God that brings faith.
I so look forward to seeing the other three gospels the Lumo project made, as the shot all four at the same time.
Outstanding score and cast and production. A must see. It could easliy become a new favorite. Fabulous job Lumo team!
Voicing the script: This version sticks to the translation with no deviation, and one person reads the entire text. He does an excellent job (NIV). The tone is often serious, with deep conviction. The VB stays quite close to their translation (TEV), but the actors speak their parts, so the VB is easier to follow and has a wider range of expression.
What we see: In this version, the camera concentrates heavily on Jesus; we are often close to him as he interacts with someone. This gives intensity to the story. The screen is often relatively dark. There is lots of desert scenery. (Could this be symbolic? -- He came to his own (creation) but his own (people) did not accept him.) The VB version gives the impression of a more livable countryside, a land which could support grazing, grain, figs and grapes. Clear differences in costume make it easier to follow some characters in the VB (Mary Magdalene).
Acting: In this version, Jesus is serious and rather intense. I like it very much indeed. Some people prefer the smiling Jesus of the VB version. The VB version is full of white faces, which is a huge disadvantage. But some of the scenes work better in VB. For instance, the Samaritan woman shows the wear and tear of her life, and she communicates well. There are some really memorable moments in the VB version (the soldier who snarls "Jesus of Nazareth," or Thomas's grief when the resurrected Lord appears to him). Overdone, perhaps, but hard to forget. I love the last scene at the beach (Jesus, Peter, and John).
A few details: The VB seems to have drawn on wider consultation, and on research which if not greater was certainly different (e.g. music). The VB goes out of its way to prevent misinterpretation which could feed antisemitism. This version, reading straight through the NIV text, does not bring out the footnote to John 1:19 which states that in John's gospel the term "the Jews" refers to the those Jewish leaders who opposed Jesus. But the NIV translation handles the problem well, and so does the visual part of this movie.
To sum up, this version givens an impression of closeness, authenticity and seriousness. It is one element in a very large project. The VB is more clear and pleasing, and has more professional polish. It is part of the Visual Bible series, but it is made to unusually high standards.
These observations are based on memory, not recent review. Correction and comment would be very welcome.

Muy buena produccion
This is not one of them.
This is a gritty and accurate movie.
It's also entertaining and very watchable.
The director used a unique way of narrating it that is quite effective.
By far the best movie on this subject ever made, in my opinion.
Its quality and accuracy are such that it could be considered study material.
This film is enjoyable not only for Christians but also for every person who is studying the Gospels, the history of Jesus' life or finding out what the "Good News" are.
The actors, music, narrators and the scenery have been chosen so carefully (great director& d.o.p. aswell) and - what seems to me - true to scientific facts - without any pomp - so that watching it, puts you right in the middle of the story.
You can choose between watching the film with the narration from the NIV (New International Version - also with english subtitles) or the KJV (King James Version, no subtitles & different narrator) which I also found very interesting and which helps for a better understanding and comparison of these 2 different translation.
I hope that this excellent film will be translated in as many languages as possible and that the whole Bible will be filmed like that.
The film is also very inspiring - even for people of a different or - like me - of no faith.
And - if you're interested in religion in general and have not found your own spiritual path yet, you will want to dig deeper - to search for a way of your own understanding of The Bible and Jesus' teachings.
