  • All-Inclusive Kit: Your purchase includes the BTECH UV-25X4, RJ45 to K1 Audio Adapter, Speaker Mic, DC Cable, Radio & Mic Brackets, Mounting Hardware, and a User Guide to help you get started with your advanced radio experience.
  • Dual Watch monitoring VHF/UHF and 220Mhz: The 220 MHz band antenna lowpass filter is switched with a relay and the 2 meter lowpass filter and 70 cm highpass filters are switched with PIN diodes - resulting in a audible relay switch noise when monitoring 220MHz with VHF/UHF simultaneously. A relay that completely isolated the 220 MHz RF filter won't impact the RF performance of the 2 meter/70 cm bands. If monitoring multiple 220MHz or VHF/UHF simultaneously the relay is not heard or used.

Product Description

UV-25X4 Second Generation Ham, Commercial Mobile Radio

UV-25X4 (Second Generation) 25W Mobile Two Way Radio

Second Generation

The UV-25X4 is very much the same radio, our users have come to enjoy, with several new functionality improvements. The UV-25X4 has seen several performance improvements and tweaks in its second generation release.

RJ45 Audio Input & Output

The UV-25X4 has new menus and operations that allow audio I/O from its RJ45 microphone port. This allows the UV-25X4 to be installed for custom applications, where users want more control on where the speaker and mic audio is routed to.

VOX Handsfree Support

The UV-25X4 (Second Generation) includes VOX support. VOX allows for handsfree use with your favorite audio accessories or the included handheld microphone.

In the Box:

  • UV-25X4 Mobile Radio
  • DTMF Handheld Microphone
  • Vehicle Cigarette Connector Power Cable (4.5')
  • Vehicle Mounting Bracket
  • Screws & Mounting Hardware
  • Easy-to-read Manual (written in the US)
  • RJ-45 to Kenwood K1 Accessory Adaptor

BTECH Radios are not like other similar looking radios. BTECH radios are designed in the USA with custom firmware and internal hardware differences. BTECH radios are backed with a full US support. A BTECH label means you are getting the best radio available! A few of our highlighted differences are below:

  • BTECH radios use an upgraded Power Chipset
  • Customizable PTT Return Times: When handling multiple conversations, the radio allows users to customize if the radio automatically switches to respond to active channels, or allow the user to set one channel default to transmit on.
  • Dual Synchronize Display Mode: Synchronize Up to 2 Channels - and display both their channel name and channel frequency!
  • Microphone Audio Gain Settings: Sound great and customize your microphone output for any repeater
  • Expanded Frequency Range Support
  • Auto Power Off Function: Save your battery and prevent unnecessary power draining
  • Channel Mode Editing Settings: Edit saved memory channels on-the-fly; our radio does not require you to delete a channel to make changes
  • New Scanning Modes: Auto Scan (Scan with a power reboot), Scanning Resume, and Variable Frequency Scanning
  • Quad Watch Delay Time: Allows the receiver to stay on the secondary channel longer after incoming transmission - customize the delay up to 50 seconds; This avoids manually channel switching when you are engaged with simultaneous contacts on two frequencies
  • Randomization Privacy Mode

RJ45 to K1 Audio Adaptor

The UV-25X4 also includes a RJ45 to K1 Audio Adaptor, allowing you to use K1 audio accessories from our BTECH handheld radios with your mobile radio!

The radio includes special menus to allow audio to be routed both through the UV-25X4 and K1 accessory, only through the radio, or only through the K1 audio accessory.

Uniquely customize your UV-25X4

The X-Series Mobiles use our Multi-Color LCD display screen. You can adjust the complete display colors to be exactly as you want it. Beyond the display, you can fully customize your channels to display their alpha-numeric names or frequency settings.

There are 128 programmable memory channels. You can add or remove channels from scanning list. You can easily program from a PC or right on the radio itself.

Pair the UV-25X4 with the Nagoya TB-320A Antenna and RB-50 Magnetic Mount for easy installation with the UHF antenna connectors.

Group Tones supported

The UV-25X4 supports the most common Analog Tones. It supports CTCSS, DCS, 2Tone, 5Tone, and DTMF calling methods. Set-up your calling methods to call by group tones. Tone calling (private line) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-25X4 supports the latest standards.

The UV-25X4 can even send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones; or it can receive incoming DTMF tones to allow for remote stun or kill commands

Quad Watch and Display Sync

The UV-25X4 operates as multiple radios in one, with either VHF or UHF as the 'Main' band, while simultaneously watching up to 3 other frequencies or channels; and, if you like, you can configure your UV-25X4 for simultaneous VHF-VHF or UHF-UHF operation, too!

Dual Sync Display:

With Dual Sync Display, you can synchronize channel lines to one or two channels. This allows you to sync display 'lines' to a single channel allowing the user to have both frequency and channel name data displayed simultaneously.

Second Generation

Dual Watch monitoring VHF/UHF and 220Mhz: The 220 MHz band antenna lowpass filter is switched with a relay and the 2 meter lowpass filter and 70 cm highpass filters are switched with PIN diodes - resulting in a audible relay switch noise when monitoring 220MHz with VHF/UHF simultaneously. A relay that completely isolated the 220 MHz RF filter won't impact the RF performance of the 2 meter/70 cm bands. If monitoring multiple 220MHz or VHF/UHF simultaneously the relay is not heard or used.

So I really like this radio... but some heartburn.
3 Stars
So I really like this radio... but some heartburn.
So as a new HAM I wanted to get some entry level gear that would not break the bank. The BTECH stuff is a perfect fit in that regard.Of the offerings the UV-25X4 was the perfect fit for me because it has a simple install being that it can be powered directly off a car cigarette lighter, and its small enough to fit in my small car (Honda Fit w/ 5 Speed Manual) and it had a nice layout, monitoring features, etc.Bonus having the 1.25M (220MHz) as I actually really plan to use that as well.So for the heartburn? Here is the list of things I found to be odd, and/or problematic.1.) It came with some screws for mounting. Flat tip screws that you would use for through mounting with a nut on the other side and some regular screws with a sharp tip for threading directly into a material. They did not include the nuts to use the through bolts with... Also I think on both of them they were a bit too long to be used in any car without puncturing something behind your mounting point. So this required a trip to home depot to buy some new bolts and nuts to mount the unit.2.) Advertised quad monitoring (up to) but it really does not work that way in practice. First if you have a 220MHz channel included in any of the channels to be monitored along with the UHF/VHF the relay will click on and off like crazy on this thing, and I am not sure how long that will last before it wears out. Second if any channel is busy, it ignores the others. So if I am on a fairly active repeater, it will never pick up anything on the other monitored channels as it only monitors during a period of time with no other activity at all. It's best to not call this multi-monitoring it's more like "auto scanning" where it will scan up to 4 channels automatically when there is no activity currently on a given channel. Even the dead-space between people keying wont let it pick up other monitored channels as there is a built in "wait" before it seems to go back to scanning.Speaking of scanning, it appears that while scanning even if no activity is picked up it will not monitor any other channel. So forget having your favorite repeater monitored while you scan so that you can pick up a conversation while still listening for activity on your primary channel. It simply will not receive anything or listen to anything while scanning.3.) My largest pain point. The external audio connection. The built in speaker is better than expected given the small size of the unit. But it's tiny and will distort at higher volume. If you have a loud cabin in your car or poor hearing you are going to probably want an external speaker. For some reason they put a totally different audio out on this unit than pretty much any other radio uses (Including their own 50x2 and 50x3 radios) HAM radio is MONO there is no stereo so the normal connection is a standard MONO TS connection. If you buy any external HAM or CB speaker this is the connection it will come with.Stereo connections like your headphones or computer speakers are STEREO so they come with TRS connections.Lastly combo jacks like usually found on a cell phone combine STEREO speaker output and MICROPHONE input and use a TRRS connection. This unit uses a TRRS connection like a cell phone would have... So they designed it to be a multi purpose jack that could have a microphone, ptt, mono speaker output, and ground. I bought 3 different adapters to make my CB speaker work and none of them did. In the manual it says this connection is compatible with standard TS stereo speakers, but its not! I tried all 3 adapters, I tried my TRRS headphones that came with my phone, and I tried normal TS headphones I use with my laptop. None of them work because this is not a normal pin out for a audio out jack. The unit should have come with some kind of adapter and I really do not understand why they need a microphone input at all. As I messed around with this thing often it would start to send transmissions because it detected some kind of input on the microphone jack so I hope I didn't send any crazy signals over the air.Short of fabricating my own adapter using a pigtail I am not sure what to do with this and a bit grieved over all the time and money I spent on adapters and troubleshooting.I appreciate the support the product has, as every BTECH product I have purchased they reach out to you and ask if it was delivered and if you have any issues. I did contact them about this issue and explain what was going on. All they told me was they gave this thing stereo output so it would be easy to integrate into your car audio system or a laptop.I can tell you. It wont. First unlike a normal TRS or TRRS output with stereo, this connector actually is still mono and they added a proprietary PTT connection. So plug this into your car or laptop with a male to male cable will just not work and will cause undesired transmissions. I'll attach the pin out from the manual as well as a pinout of a normal TRRS connection to this review. I hope they make some kind of adapter and send it to us for free because in its current state the audio out is a lie and not working. It was clearly designed for some kind of device with a PTT feature and not a normal speaker output.Hope this review helps, and I will probably do a video review as well at some point to go into more detail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the money
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2017
This radio works great for the money. I purchased it to use inside my home for talking on local FM repeaters. I already own a couple of Baofeng/BTECH HTs, so I'm already familiar with the brand. I wanted more than 5 watts that you get with a HT, but I didn't need 50+ watts. This radio fits my requirements nicely at less than half the price of a Japanese radio from Icom, Yaesu, or Kenwood.

Out of the box, the radio comes with the actual transceiver, a handset, and a DC power cable with a cigarette lighter adapter on the end, along with a mounting bracket and spare fuse. I immediately cut the cigarette lighter adapter off and replace it with crimped-on rings to match my power supply. I don't plan on ever using this radio in my vehicle, and if I do, I will directly wire it into the vehicle's electrical system.

Cosmetically, this radio isn't perfect. There are some minor things that could be better. Other people have commented about the cheesy serif font. Also I noticed that if you do a factory reset, it asks you "SOURE?" I think that is supposed to be "SURE?"

However, the important thing is that it was easy to configure, and it transmits and receives well. Sending and receiving sounds great, and other people have said that my transmissions are clear as a bell. That is what's most important to me, and for the price I paid, I can tolerate some quirks like the "SOURE?" prompt.

I especially like the fact that you can sync the channels so you can see both the frequency and name of the channel you're using, and of course I like the fact that it supports programming via Chirp.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good radio, does just about everything on the budget.
Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2017
Lots of features that you'd expect from a more expensive radio, such as Mic Gain, OLED color display that is fully configurable. Size is tiny, and will fit into the pocket pouch of a hoodie easily. Audio quality rivals your big 3 labels, and nobody will know you're using this radio unless you either tell them what you're using. However, there there are a couple of issues with this unit that I'd like to review.

First issue is the pinout of the external mic and speaker. It is not standardized to anything, PTT and Mic lines are two separate leads instead of a single pin like Yaesu. Also the hole is recessed, but that normal 3.5mm TRRS connectors WILL NOT be inserted fully unless the plugs housing can fit into the hole. The house size must the same size as an iphone headset connector housing, anything wider will not fit. That includes standard diameter plug housings. So, if you want to use an external mic or a headset, get ready to figure out how to wiring one yourself, it be harder than normal. You can work around this issue by the use of iPhone headset extension cable to solve this problem. Beside to buy quality so that the plugs actually is to spec, and will make contact with all 4 connectors properly.

Second, and the biggest issue is the included cigarette lighter power cable. The cigarette lighter adapter is underrated, and WILL melt if you use it under 25w power with heavy usage. I was running a talk net as a substitute net controller for local repeater for about 2hrs, and the spring inside the cigarette lighter adapter headed up so hot that melted and fused in with the housing. With the spring tension gone after the casing melted, the connector will fail, and you will end up in the dark. I've emailed Btech/Baofeng tech about this. They simply told me to buy another connector from them for $10+ shipping despite that would not actually solve the problem from happening again, and the radio is still under warranty. An alternative adapter to use a Powerex brand cigarette to OEM-T for $15, that is rated for 15amp and will have a less likelihood of melting during those times "when it counts". But if you're going to do anything serious, it's best to actually use a better connector than the cigarette connector such as Powerpole that is much more resilient against heavier loads.

I've included a picture of the melted connector. Note bulge in body of the housing, and the center power pin no longer protrude due to the loss of spring tension, and being fused with the housing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact and versatile

This radio has a small footprint so it fits well in a cabin with limited space. The photo shows the size next to a standard size VHF radio. The user manual is well written and easy to follow. Easily programmed for up to 4 preset frequencies so you can quickly switch at the click of a button. It has plenty of power to reach out and contact others.
I am extremely happy with its performance and ease of use.
