Kindred Acres Wish List

We are a small veteran single mom run homestead located near Raleigh NC. Our beautiful homestead is made up of just under 3.5 acres of beautiful land which we are in the process of turning into our food forest. We aspire to live in harmony with nature. We strive to be good stewards of the land and be as sustainable as possible. We are a certified garden nursery and a certified wildlife habitat. Kindred Acres Homestead is our sanctuary. It's our little slice of heaven....our food forest, wildlife habitat, and wellness center, We have planted well over 150 edible trees and bushes, and hundreds of herbs, flowers, and edibles to date and continue to plant as we fill in our food forest. We use regenerative gardening practices, utilizing chop and drop, woodchips, and compost waste to feed our plants, and we use a no-till gardening method. We focus on building soil and the ecosystem below our feet. Because this system works so well, it is very easy to maintain and it requires very little water. We use an extremely small amount of water for our gardens which is, in itself, a sustainable practice. We have medicinal plants for our apothecary, tea gardens for dried tea herbs, and annual edible gardens for our sustenance. We work with the land, regenerating the erosion areas and cleaning up the forest of sick or standing dead trees and invasive vines. We recently installed a wildflower field for pollinators and a cottage garden that surrounds our nut orchard. We do all of this without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or harsh chemicals. We built this space to not only be a sanctuary for us but for the nature creatures as well. Our work here at Kindred Acres is a project that will continue for a time to come. We have a pet goose named Hazel who loves to follow us around the food forest. We also have pet chickens who we adore dearly. They provide us eggs, feathers for projects, and wonderful compost. Penny, our Red Ear Slider turtle loves to follow us around the garden as well, munching on greens as we go. Our wild bird friends, pollinator friends, frogs, and other nature creatures have been abundant since we have added to the land.....such a treat! We have had sitings of wild fox, deer, and see signs of beavers. We have visits from squirrels, and birds of all types. We are Spiritual and believe we are all connected to each other and to the land. We believe in holistic healing through nature, disease prevention through food, and honoring our bodies and land. The land and the plants here at Kindred Acres are sacred to us. We thank them often for their presence and abundance. Every day we are learning and growing personally and spiritually, and as a homestead community which is a journey in itself and one best taken with friends by your side.
