Love At Last Kindle Edition
Now that the kids are grown and out of the house, it’s Alana’s time at last. However, she and her husband find themselves faced with a new and sad dilemma—figuring out who the stranger is who sits across the dining room table. The questions and doubt begin when Alana retraces the decisions she has made that brought her to this point.
As her life unravels around her, she meets Toni O’Hara, a Chicago fire inspector. Through her humor and compassion, Toni helps Alana come to terms with her life, her culpability in her failed marriage, and the most wonderful realization of all—love, at last.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2021Beautifully written story of Toni and Alana finding their joy and future in each other. Alana’s husband, Paul, also finds his happiness in Donna. Their kids are amazing as are Alana’s friends and Toni’s surrogate mother and her best friend, Kevin. Well developed characters and plot. A very good read. I heartily recommend this and any other works by this author. Her writings inspire me to find love in my “golden” years. Thank you Peace
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2020Kate Sweeney once again has created a wonderful storyline filled with fascinating and unique characters.
Love the slow burn aspect and that Paul wasn't written as a bad guy.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2011Alana has spent her adult life focussed on her family, but the children have left home and her contact with Toni stimulates Alana to think about what she wants from her life now. The characters are sensible and mature, handling the situation in which they find themselves in an adult way. It's refreshing that Alana's husband is not characterised as evil.
This book is an excellent choice for pure romance readers with natural plot development and likeable characters. Those readers who are looking for romance within an action/thriller genre may find the book less interesting with its ordinary lives and lack of drama.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2013Talk about finding true love. What I found to be the best part of this story line was how healthy the relationships where between everyone . To new beginnings and letting the past go, and still be able to receive love . This book will make you laugh and bring joy to your heart.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2014I love Kate's sense of humor in all her books. This one is no exception. This book kept my attention right to the very end.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2016Enjoyable reading! Each character brought something to the story. I found this story to be heart warming and educational in the since not everyone knows when being friends could turn out to be the live you searched for so long. It can be very scary but enlightening.
Toni and Allie took a long time to find each other and they are right together as Paul and Donna are. Love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2012This book was a 'nice' read. Characters believable - Toni a gentle, caring and extraordinary lesbian who was willing to wait till the end of time to obtain the love of her life Alana - so consequently it felt like they would 'never' have sex - they did but this story is more about personal realisations, growth in both self and new relationships than heavy petting. Story will appeal to those who have either been through it or those new to lesbian relationships.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2015This story has a special place in my heart because it is about two middle-aged women and for once not about younger lesbians. The fact that the drama has not prevailed but the story is about discovering yourself, about finding true love and a new beginning, which is what really appeals to me. It was a pleasure to get to know these characters and then also written in a humorous way. This is an absolute must to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhhh lovely!
Good to have a steamy romance with slightly older characters. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, two very lovable and believable ladies, perfect for each other.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely story, perfect for a sunny afternoon
I read this book, in a bit of a rush last year, then found myself re-reading it this week. When I first read it, I remember not thinking much of it, a bit formulaic and nothing very special.
So when I re-read at a more leisurely pace, I had to change my view from the first read, its a lovely story, well written and the dialogue is funny, heartwarming and a feel good, if I had any criticisms it would be that some things never happen as perfectly as described around divorce!
So, it's a curl up on the sofa type book that will make you smile and just feel good about life :)

It's sensational! The characters fly into their way into your heart and make you feel every emotion they do. It's a truly magnificent read.
