Jenny Twist was born in York and brought up in the West Yorkshire mill town of Heckmondwike, the eldest grandchild of a huge extended family.

She left school at fifteen and went to work in an asbestos factory. After working in various jobs, including bacon-packer and escapologist’s assistant (she was The Lovely Tanya), she returned to full-time education and did a BA in history, at Manchester and post-graduate studies at Oxford.

She stayed in Oxford working as a recruitment consultant for many years and it was there that she met and married her husband, Vic.

In 2001 they retired and moved to Southern Spain where they live with their rather eccentric dogs and cat. Besides writing, she enjoys reading, knitting and attempting to do fiendishly difficult logic puzzles.

Since moving to Spain she has written four novels and numerous short stories.

Four of her books have been given 5 star reviews by the esteemed review site, Readers’ Favorite.

In July 2018 she was awarded the coveted TOP FEMALE AUTHOR award in Fantasy/Horror/Paranormal/Science Fiction by The Authors Show

Here's a package of stories – two short and four novella length tales – that will sparkle under anyone's Christmas tree. The description above gives you all the hints you need, so I won't go any further with the stories' details. I'll just tell you what I loved about the whole group.

First, the variety of plot and voice and emotion. I went from laughing out loud to wiping away tears, reading these stories, with plenty of stops in between. From an old man's memories of Christmases past to a child's attempts to grasp the sudden trouble that besets his family, from old griefs to the possibilities of new romance, the tales cover a wide range of human experience. All are very real, with characters the author portrays so skillfully that we can't help believing in them. And – as anyone who's read Jenny Twist's other books will expect – there's a generous sprinkling of magic too.

Second, the gentle aura of hope that glows from all the stories. There's nothing cloying or sappy about these people and the situations they find themselves in; in fact, the visions we're given here are of the real human condition. The author acknowledges the frequently uncomfortable relationships among family members and the certainties of old age and death. But what conquers, finally, is not bitterness or defeat, but the spirit of Christmas – peace, good will, and a striving toward love.

I received this book as a gift. Everyone who knows me knows how highly I rate Jenny Twist’s storytelling and this magical Christmas collection is up there with the best of her work. Six festive stories written in Twist’s inimitable style would make a great gift for anyone this Christmastime.

Almost everyone must know or recognise an Elaine and therefore sympathise with everyone in the first story, especially Uncle Albert, so no prizes for guessing who gets the last laugh in this uplifting story. The short nativity story will bring a smile to everyone’s lips, while I defy you not to shed a tear when you read how and why Jamey must go into battle with an alien. ‘Home for Christmas’, ‘Marion’ and ‘The Magic of Christmas’ are unusual stories that will stay with you and make you think long after you’ve finished them.

When you read Ms Twist’s stories, you need to keep an open mind, expect the unexpected and relax in the certain knowledge that you’re always in for a highly enjoyable read.

A charming collection of short stories centered on the theme of Christmas. The collection has many humorous moments, but also deals with serious issues: loneliness; the loss of independence and the problems of aging. The characters are well drawn and the settings just enough to anchor the plots. Very enjoyable to read at Christmas or any other time.
