I am using this for a rather unusual purpose. I needed a way to practice playing electric guitar with headphones instead of an amp. There are various ways to do this, but I wanted something small enough that I could mount it on a pedalboard. I also wanted it to work in stereo, because I have a stereo output from the last pedal in the chain, and have another stereo input so I can mix in music from my phone, and play along with the music. This mixer fits that purpose perfectly. The sound is clear and not noisy. Like someone else said, all the sliders and controls work smoothly. It's a great little unit.
One of the things I could not tell from the specs was exactly what type of power adapter was included. Having received the unit, it may be helpful to note that it uses a 9V power supply with center positive. I wanted a mixer which takes 9V, like other pedals, so I could power it off my pedalboard power supply. Because it is 9V, this can work, but the polarity is opposite from regular electric guitar pedals. Almost all electric guitar pedals use negative for the center and positive for the sleeve. Fortunately my power supply includes a cable which reverses the polarity, so I can do that. Of course, the mixer comes with its own power supply; I just wanted to use the pedalboard power supply because it makes for a neater wiring job.
The mixer includes an adapter which has two 1/4" mono jacks and puts them into the left and right channels of a 1/8" stereo plug, which makes it very easy to connect my guitar pedals to the mixer. Another way this is perfect for what I needed. In case you are curious, I am using a Joyo American Sound pedal and a Joyo AC Tone pedal, to do amp simulation before sending the sound to the mixer. It's not as good as a real amp, but sounds pretty good, and is close enough to practice with.
I had my hesitations about buying from a little Taiwan company that only makes a few products. But this is a well-designed and built mixer. I'm very happy with it.
Overall: I have a pretty large pedal board and I run both an instrument and a mic through it. Since I already have so much gear to carry, I really didn't want to get another large-ish piece of gear with more crap than I need just to run my two inputs through the pedal chain. This has enough gain for my dynamic Sennheiser mic, and I didn't hear any noise or distortion when I turned up the gain, it sounded good. Plus now if I wanted to I could add a keyboard or even a backing track from my phone or computer. I love how much you can do with this lightweight, compact little mixer, and it's totally affordable. Some people are worrying about the material, but again I like that it's lightweight. I thought the 4 year accidental protection plan for 9.99 was pretty reasonable so I got that just in case, and now I'm not worried about it.
Adapters:
It comes with one adapter plug. Right now it looks like the individually sold Maker Hart's adapters are unavailable on Amazon. So for more mono instruments you need a female 1/4 inch to male 1/8th inch adapter. For that I think the "Sennheiser Cable Adapter Female 1/4 6.3mm to Male 1/8 3.5 mm Plug" is good - it's nice and short, but it still has a soft wire in the middle which I think is better than the stiff, single piece adapters, because it prevents any weight from a heavy cable putting pressure on the input.
For a mic you need a 1/8" TRS stereo to XLR Female (MOBOREST has one). I actually had a XLR to 1/4 adapter already, so I then plugged that into Maker Hart's adapter. Anyway, if the mic doesn't sound good I think it's probably the cable, adapter, or mic that's the issue, and not the mixer - because my dynamic mic sounded good with the mixer. Also, it's not designed for condenser mics, only dynamic.
For additional stereo instruments, I'm pretty sure a Y cable would work (dual female 1/4" to 1/8" male), but on the other hand if you're trying to run two mono instruments into one channel (which Maker Hart says is possible), I'm not sure a Y cable will work and I don't know what you should get besides the one that comes with the unit. So basically take into account what adapters you'll need when you're buying this unit.
As of the time of this review I only have two devices going to the mixer, my PC, and an aux cable coming from my monitor. I will eventually have 4 devices set up with it. Two consoles, a pc, and an echo dot (possibly with the 5th port taken up for my phone).
The connection coming from my monitor is probably the poorest quality audio I have heard through the mixer so far, but I attribute that to a poor quality DAC in the monitor itself rather than to the mixer.
I personally don't have a lot of experience with the technical side of mixers so I will let another reviewer with more knowledge cover that aspect. However, I do put a lot of importance on my sound quality, and so far it seems like the sound quality through this mixer is decent. I do not yet have any DACs or Amps going from my devices to the mixer yet (I have a DAC on the way), so the sound quality I'm getting could change quite a bit after I add one of these items to the set up. I will try to remember to update this review with more information on the sound quality after trying the DAC when I receive it.
Overall the mixer does exactly what I needed it to do. Take sound from multiple sources and output them to a single pair of headphones. Seems to work well with all my devices and as stated before it is very simple and straight forward to set up and use. Definitely good for those first getting into the world of mixers who just want to have one pair of headphones for multiple audio sources.
