A very large book with (mostly) short readings. The readings are from many different authors so the perspectives vary. This is a very good introduction to the enterprise of taking the good news to all people that our God loves all mankind. The theological foundation is solid and compelling, going far beyond a restatement of the great commission. I have spent 40+ years as a pastor, teacher and cross-cultural missioner, and I have learned a lot from this book. I wish I had been able to read it 40 years ago! Any Christian would be blessed by picking it up and imbibing from it.

I took this course about 12 years ago... and then launched out into missionary work overseas. Now that I am home again I purchased the new updated version and began rereading it, I love the stories, and the included review / study questions at the end of each chapter. Great Stuff! And if you get the chance take the full course www.perspectives.org

I have used this book in its previous versions for many years. Its articles offer deep insights in culture and missiological practices that enhance the student's understanding of the theory and practice of missions. It draws from a wide range of authors of different backgrounds and challenges the mission practitioner to aim for excellence.

This reader on the world Christian movement is encyclopedic. It is designed for the Perspectives class. It is a basic introduction to cross-cultural missions. There are more than 130 articles covering the Biblical basis along with the historical, cultural and strategic perspectives. However, the material needs to be updated (it's 10 years old) and the index makes it nearly impossible to find things. It's a great book, which is hard to use.

The Perspectives book edited by Ralph Winter collects hard-won missionary wisdom from the greats of the past and the cutting-edge researchers and theorists of the present. A massive volume, it presents invaluable insight for missionaries, church planters and evangelists. Anyone going to a mission field, foreign or local, will avoid numerous mistakes by studying this volume first. At only $9.99 for the Kindle version, there are single articles in the book, like "God At War," that alone are worth the price.

I thought I had a pretty good handle of what missionary meant. This collection of "essays" from around the world revealed my intellectual and spiritual poverty. If you want something comforting and yet deeply disturbing, try taking this on. It will challenge you - guaranteed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Item description does not match actual product but for a divine reason
Reviewed in Germany on July 1, 2022
The item we received does not match the description (As New), it had highlight marks, handwriting notes and the back cover was damaged. I received a partial refund twice quickly (the packaging and postal costs were not reimbursed).
HOWEVER, the handwriting notes (by the former user) were actually very meaningful, and I believe that God spoke to me through that. Now I am rather thankful because God has His divine reason for what happened.
