Jack Bruce & Friends Bass, Keyboards, Vocals - Jack Bruce Drums - Billy Cobham Guitar, Vocals - Clemp Clempson Keyboards, Guitar, Bass - David Sancious These friends have some serious chops: guitarist Clem Clempson, keyboardist David Sancious and drum dynamo Billy Cobham! This archived performance at the Bottom Line in NYC finds them rockin' along with the late, great Cream bassist/singer on "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room," "Theme from an Imaginary Western," "Born Under a Bad Sign," "Politician," "Post War," "The Loner" and more on 2 CDs. Across two discs, recorded in March 1980, we have:
>White Room, Born Under a Bad Sign, Politician, and Sunshine of Your Love -- Cream
(all composed by Bruce with Pete Brown except Born Under a Bad Sign, written by Booker T. Jones for Albert King)
>Theme for an Imaginary Western -- Songs for a Tailor (1969)
>Post War -- Harmony Row (1971)
>Running Through Our Hands -- Out of the Storm (1974)
>Jet Set Jewel, Childsong -- Jet Set Jewel (album recorded in 1978 but rejected by the label and not released until 2003)
>Bird Alone -- I've Always Wanted to Do This (1980 -- the song was new on this tour)
>Quadrant 4 -- Billy Cobham "Spectrum"
>The Loner -- from drummer Cozy Powell's album "Over the Top" (1979) which featured Bruce and Clemson on the original
Sancious and Clemson play dueling guitars on "Politician." Otherwise Sancious mainly plays keyboards. Clemson is an outstanding guitarist, one of many who played with Bruce over the years -- Eric Clapton, Larry Coryell, John McLaughlin, Chris Spedding, Leslie West, Mick Taylor, Steve Hunter, Robin Trower, and Vernon Reid are the ones I'm familiar with. He played with the jazz/rock band Colosseum before replacing Peter Frampton in Humble Pie. This was probably the best jazz/rock band Bruce played with since the Tony Williams Lifetime in 1970 with McLaughlin and Larry Young.
For me the highlights are Post War and Running Through Our Hands on the first disc and the 19-minute Bird Alone on the second disc, but the whole concert is outstanding!

This is a 4-panel foldout cardboard case. Gregg Bendian (drummer and vibes-player) provides the excellent liner notes essay. Also included are tributes and remembrances from some of Bruce's fellow musicians.
Minus one star for subpar packaging.
Flimsy heavy bond paper, cd sleeves that result in scratched CDs.
