They also shield your eyes from 99.999% of high-intensity visible light.

Safety Tips:

Kids

Sun

Eclipse

Children should always be supervised

Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a solar eclipse but eclipse glasses are not a toy. Make sure children are supervised by an adult.

Purchase Your Glasses From A Reputable Dealer

Make sure your glasses are from a reputable source. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.

Look for the ISO mark and ISO 12312-2:2015 This certifies that your glasses are safe for eclipse viewing.

Make Sure Your Glasses Are In Good Repair (Photo Credit Geoff Simms)

Make sure your glasses are in good condition. Always make sure to inspect your lenses carefully for any cracks, scratches, or other types of damage that would allow a light leak, whether you are reusing eclipse glasses from previous eclipses or a brand-new pair of eclipse glasses.

Group Pic

Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer —the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury. Those devices require different types of solar filters.

When viewing the partial phases of the eclipse through cameras, binoculars, or telescopes equipped with proper solar filters, you do not need to wear eclipse glasses. (The solar filters do the same job as the eclipse glasses to protect your eyes.)

View the Sky

View the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality. You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)

As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright Sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked Great!
Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023
These glasses worked very well for the eclipse! We ordered them about a month in advance and got them a couple of weeks later.

We were able to see the moon make its way in front of the sun without hurting our eyes. It was really cool to have our son be able to see what was happening and be able to explain it to him without worrying about his eyes behind the glasses.
