Get lost in the bestselling paranormal series everyone is talking about!
A #1 bestseller with more than 1200+ five-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Over 20 MILLION pages read, this series topped the teen paranormal romance charts for months. Find out why readers say "If you love the romance of Twilight and Mortal Instruments, you'll fall in love with White Raven.

DREADFUL LIES. UNEXPECTED LOVE. IMPOSSIBLE TRUTH.
It only took one heartbeat to change my life--one chilling phone call in the middle of the night. And then, as if my life didn't already suck, my dad sends my brother and me to some idyllic island for the summer to live with a grandma we never met. WTH. Naturally, I rebel. In the end, I find myself shipped off to Raven Hollow...and bored to tears. Until I get an eyeful of the mind-bendingly gorgeous Zane Hunter. The dark-hair cutie makes my pulse go bonkers, and I think, maybe this might not be so bad after all. Six feet of swoon inducing looks, with a hint of Celtic charm in his voice, he was the type of guy that left a string of broken hearts in his wake. And I had all the heartbreak I could handle. Yet, there is something uncanny, almost supernatural about Zane, and it's not just his devastating smirk. No matter how much distance I put between us, Raven Hollow isn't big enough, and the sparking tension between is undeniable. Of course, the one person I want to avoid becomes my salvation. My past comes back to terrorize me. Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to the truth, the more I realize my whole life is a lie. I am no longer sure what is more frightening--the attempts on my life or the guy whose heart and soul are synchronized with mine.

WHITE RAVEN is the enthralling first installment in The Raven series. A YA paranormal romance full of atmosphere, self-discovery, and love that will keep you captivated until the very last page. If you love the romance of Twilight, the emotion of Mortal Instruments, and the soul of the Iron Fey, you'll fall in love with White Raven.

Loved this book. Great story line and kept me on the edge of my seat. Gotta read them all now
  • Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2015
I honestly can't tell you what prompted me to pick this book up. I've never read this author before, I'd never even heard of this book. It may have been the gorgeous cover, or it may have just been my needing to go back to my original love- Paranormal YA. I had tried it a few times before recently, and the results were never very good. And when I say paranormal I mean TRUE paranormal. Not dystopian or anything to that effect. I had been on such a long kick of New Adult and Contemporary Romance that I needed a break. I read to escape and as amazing as that genre and all of it's kick ass authors are I needed a total, could never in a million years happen unless I was on some kind of psychotic break- kind of escape that only true paranormal could give me. So, when I read this description I thought sure might as well give it a shot. And then it took me forever to actually choose it on my kindle. You ever have those moments when you look at all the pretty book covers on your kindle and say to yourself "why did I download this?" and "what was this one about again?". Welp, I'm ashamed to admit that I did that a few times with this one. But the cover just kept drawing me back. So I decided I would open it up and give it a read. I did this yesterday. I finished it last night. So, yeah.

Piper (love the name choice btw) and her younger brother TJ are dealing with the unexpected murder of their mother. Her dad on the other hand isn't really dealing it at all. He instead put them on a boat to a small New England island to live with a grandmother they've never met before. Piper is a typical 17 year old girl. Angry with the world, snippy, full of attitude and sass. But she has a pretty good reason to be. She directs a lot of said sass to her grandmother Rose who, apparently, pretty much runs the island.

Enter Zane. Brooding, handsome and kind of a prick. He has secrets, along with many of the people on this island, and Piper is determined to get to the bottom of it.

Piper and Zane's intense hate/attraction towards each other is hilariously awesome. So many one liners I want to steal and use on people in real life. And just enough cussing to make me not feel too old for reading this. But Zane is fighting his attraction hard. Harder than someone who just thinks the other person is an entitled "Princess" like he insinuates constantly.

There's no way to fully go into the rest of the book without giving A LOT away. So I won't. All I'll say is the paranormal aspect is refreshing. It's a new bit that hasn't been done a million and a half times. The world building is interesting and J.L. Weil has a knack of revealing just enough at each time to keep you satiated. That's not to say I didn't figure out some things here and there on my own, but there were enough twists to keep you hooked. Oh and I'll also say prepare to be PISSED. Because the book ends with this:

    Piper and Zane's story continues....
    Black Crow
    Coming in 2016

Yeah, you read that correctly. But regardless, thank you J.L. Weil for giving me what I was looking for in a new YA Paranormal series: Love, snarkiness, rarely used type of good/bad guy, angst, and awesome BFFs (you'll love Zoe). Can't wait until (grrr) 2016

Piper is your typical teenager who rebels for her own reasons. But, she has good reasons, right? Having her mother taken from her at a young age and a father who distances himself for reasons unknown, what else is she to do? Then, to top it all off, Piper and her brother are sent to live with her grandmother, whom she has never even met! What is up with that!? Piper decides she is just going to be her normal rebellious self for the summer and hopefully get sent home. That is, until she starts to learn the secrets of the island she is sent to. Raven Hallow isn't just an island for summer tourists. There are so many more secrets there, and Piper is determined to discover what they are.

White Raven is a Teen and Young Adult book written by J.L. Weil that I would suggest for older readers. The language and certain situations in the book isn't for younger readers. (Her books are suggested for 16+ readers for these exact reasons.) With all of that being said up front, this was a fabulous book! I couldn't put it down and wanted to know what happened next! There was a lot going on in the book, and a lot to keep up with, but that is what kept it fast paced and kept me involved! I wanted to know what was coming. The characters are truly believable. I still want the answers to questions that Piper has, but I also know that is to come. These are teenagers, so they don't always come right out with answers - and that can be frustrating. So there is that... But overall, the book is great and I can't wait to read what is to come! I think I have just found a new favorite author!

Plot (4 stars): So.... hmmm... where to start. I loved the cover of this book. So beautiful. As I began reading, I was pulled in immediately. Angsty teen forced to live with her long lost grandma after her mother was murdered. Weird paranormal activity going on in new town. It sounds like most YA paranormal romance. I'll admit, I'm a fan so I was excited. Heroine, Piper, meets the Hero, Zane, of the story and there's an instant attraction. Yes, all of this sounds familiar. But then, the reader finds out what's really going on and it's so original that I get super duper excited!! It's not vampires and werewolves like so many others! Don't get me wrong, I love a good vampire or werewolf story. It's just refreshing for someone to have an original paranormal creature.

Characters (3 stars): So, story sounds pretty awesome. I mean, super awesome. But, there were some cons to this story as well. The angsty teenage thing never. goes. away. She's like that through the entire story. She and Zane are so mean to each other. I would even say verbally abusive. It's rough. So many times I was thinking, "This would just be so much easier if you'd confide in someone else! ANYONE ELSE!!" However, the character in the book wouldn't listen to me. The story moved a bit slowly. I didn't say what the paranormal thing is because the author doesn't introduce the reader to it until half way through the book. That's when things pick up a bit.

Writing (3 stars): This book has so much potential and originality, but I had a hard time loving the main characters. Also, there were a lot of typos in it. I wanted to go through with a red pen. I was able to figure out what most of them were, but I had to stop a lot and read through a sentence to figure out what a word was supposed to be.

Let me add that even though I had a hard time with the characters, I may go on and read the other books. I haven't decided yet. I kind of want to know what happens next. Not sure though. It really was an intriguing story that kept me absorbed in the book.

I really loved this book, it was not somrthing that I had expected and was exactly what I needed!
Piper is relatable yet super snarky and not into taking anyones crap, seeing her whole world change as she and her brother move in with there very interesting grandmother. The island has a lot to teach Piper and a lot of secrets

I LOVE the Hunters and they give such a great contrast to Piper but the relationships she builds with them is great love Zane!

The way the world is explored and you get a hint of what mmore there is to come
