Joe Cross is at the end of his rope

Tipping the scales at 310 pounds and dealing with a chronic autoimmune condition, Joe Cross saw a future that would not end well.

So he turns to Mother Nature

With doctors and healers unable to help long-term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. He vows to give up junk food and drink nothing but fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days.

And meets others along the way

Joe travels more than 3,000 miles to talk with hundreds of Americans about food, health and longevity. On his journey, he meets Phil Staples, a 429-pound truck driver. Inspired by Joe’s example, Phil begins his epic journey to get well.

The Story Continues

Amazed by the outpouring of support worldwide, Joe continues his journey in his second film, Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2.

Product Description

Overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe was at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. With doctors and conventional medicine unable to help, Joe traded in junk food and hit the road with a juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe had one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

I rented this and learned how easily it was for some people to contribute to their bad health. Overeating, becoming obese and suffering from chronic diseases and illnesses. It gives you the opportunity to check yourself and see how some actually saved their lives. Great Documentary. Their particular solution may not be for you but it reminds you to look for one that will.

I was so inspired after watching this movie I pulled my juicer out of the closet and I'm heading to Whole Foods today to pick up some good veggies and fruits. OK, I'm not overweight by hundreds of pounds or much less even fifty but I constantly battle with my weight going up and down 20-30 pounds. When I lose the weight I always feel so great but inevitably real life sets in and I find myself reaching for the wrong foods. Just to watch the weight loss of these two guys, Joe who made the documentary and Phil whom Joe met on his path across America during his 60 day juice fast, and seeing their life transform was amazing. Of course I realize that a juice fast may take the weight off and then after the fact I am left with the daily choices again but I really need to make a change for good this time because when the weight creeps up so does my blood pressure and I do not want to end up on medication.
So I am trying the 10 day fast and at the same time I am going to overhaul just how I eat in general. I already know I can lose weight with lowering my carb intake so I am going to combine that with working some raw foods into my daily living after I do the fast. I will report back in about two weeks.

UPDATE! This is one week after I started and as Joe says in the movie: "Hang on to your pineapples", LOL! I lost 9 pounds so far! Woohoo! First I want to point out that I know to be cautious of rapid weight loss. I also want to point out that I found the Reboot site after going to the movie's website and they give you instructions on how to do the diet. They have different diets and after you answer a few short questions it tells you which program may be best for you. I opted for the entry which is not juice only but you also eat raw veggies and fruit and they have recipes. There are other programs where you alternate juicing alone with juicing and raw veggies/fruit. You can join the community and there is a nutritionist and other members who answer your questions or just post progress, suggestions, or questions. (And no it does not cost to join :)

January 2015... Wow has it really been 3 1/2 years?! Just got done watching the 2nd movie and posted an update with a review. I am sorry I never kept up to date on this especially with the comments I received but I completely forgot about it. I guess I just never expected anyone to pay any attention to my review so it was a surprise. Anyway, I'm doing a "Reboot" starting tomorrow...

After watching this video two years ago, I decided to try this approach to losing weight. And it worked!
It is a little bit of will power to give up chewing but after about the first week of juicing it gets easier. And the weight falls off. After about a month you might hit a wall, but stick to the juice and you will start losing again. No gimmicks, nothing to buy, you just have to stick with it!

If you're reading this review, chances are you've read many of the others that describe this DVD. Two men and one woman's journey into a radical juicing diet that not only helped them, it reversed their diseases and helped with significant weight loss. The story is dramatic, it's touching, and these are real people you can easily Google and learn a lot more about to validate that the story is not fake.

What I want to share are the results that I saw after watching this movie in December.
I have a teen, a pre-teen, and the biggest baby - my hubby - who watched this movie with me. Well, I turned it on and while they didn't want to watch when I started and were busy with other things, they ended up fascinated by the documentary and watched it through with me.
We pulled out our good old juicer the next day - it was collecting dust. Made a trip to the grocery store because I couldn't wait to get started, and we started juicing.
I tried but couldn't go on a 100% juicing diet. I could do it for 3 days but then really missed chewing. But what I was able to do was replace breakfast, and then lunch with juicing. I've lost weight, yes. 1lb per day even with adding in a salad for dinner. I had tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) and palpitations, as well as anxiety. I also had sallow skin and thinning hair. The palpitations are all gone. All. I haven't taken a single pill for them in weeks. My skin glows, my nails are the strongest I have ever seen them. My hair hasn't grown back, but they look healthier. I still eat dinner with my family. ALL of my cravings for junk are completely gone. I feel that for the first time, I am nutritionally feeding my body at a cellular level. It's a hard concept to get until you see the movie, but cellular nutrition, micro-nutrition is what I am talking about.
My family is still eating regularly, but they are also drinking the mean green juice - sweetened a bit more than Joe would perhaps.

One of my best friends tried this program after watching the DVD. She lost 11 lbs the first week, and 15 lbs in two weeks. She also had dinner, just replaced breakfast and lunch. Drank as much juice as she wanted, just heavier on veggies than fruits, and can't stop raving about not just the weight loss but how much better she feels.

I strongly recommend that you watch this DVD with an open mind. Even if juice fasting sounds like a crazy idea to you, just watch this wondering how juice can heal other people. I may sound preachy, and may sound like an infomercial (I talk to any one I can about this) :), but please don't let me prejudice you into not watching this great DVD. Even if you choose not to adopt the profound message of health, although I do hope you will.

I had seen this movie several years ago. It’s a good start to a healthy change of life style, but even the movie says not for extended use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent !

Although I do not have lots of weight to loose or have any illnesses that require drugs, I found this DVD amazing since it shows how one person changes his life and while there, others.

I am adding more vegetables and fruits, all in juices, it's been couple weeks since I started and I think that eventually I will be able to loose the extra pounds just after my body understands that I am trying to give her more nutrients... so I am in my way to a better health.

I also recommend other books like "The coconut oil miracle" and "Wheat belly", videos such as "The bitter truth" and "The children of the corn" in youtube... I found that wheat makes me feel bloated and I am trying to find other grains that are healthier, and starting with more vegetables and not eating wheat or vegetable oils is a good way to start...

I watched an edited version of Fat sick and nearly dead on TV , I was gob smacked, It got deleted before I could watch it a second time so I bought the DVD.
Amazing, so blunt and to the point.
At first I thought Joe Cross was a bit dippy, but when you understand where he is coming from you warm to him.
My main interest was to get rid of migraine, and maybe shedding a few pounds of middle age spread wouldn't go amiss.
I used the juicer attachment on our magi mix food processor to see if this regimen actually works before shelling out on a juicer. ( the Magi Mix is not my domain )
I also was given a copy of The Juice Master book By Jason Vale, (This includes a Migraine recipe That works)
over two months I have lost a stone and a half in weight, the weekly migraine that has been constant for forty odd years has stopped, for good I hope.
The love handles and pot belly have gone completely, I have so much energy I look forward to going to the gym again.
I can actually see my stomach muscles again, they vanished in my forties.
I find my mind is a lot clearer, sex drive has improved, I just feel so well in myself.
I thought it would be horrible drinking vegetable juice, but they are really lovely, ginger is wonderful.
Fruit Juices are so nice.
I bought a Philips Juicer and a Blender, really good ones,(so easy to clean).
A friend bought a Juicer for 25 quid, does the job. so it need not cost an arm and leg,
The cost of the fruit and veg is more than offset by the savings on head ache pills, junk food, days off work sick, etc. I no longer crave sugar, coffee, sweeteners or any processed foods. I actually look at processed foods now and realize what rubbish we are offered by food manufacturers,
As described in the DVD and book its a life change. not so much a diet, it doesn't offer bribes like a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate of an evening, no point counting and expensive meetings its down to you.
I am so happy I bought this DVD, I have read many books on this subject since, all you need is This DVD by Joe cross, Jason Vales Juice Master Book, a Juicer (Blenders nice but not essential) and lots of lovely fruit and veg.
