A son determined to avenge his family. A daughter desperate for peace. Two fathers intent on destruction…

ENRICO LUCCHESI

Carlo Andretti murdered my mother and my brothers. He left my father a hollow shell of a man. And for these sins, Carlo Andretti must die.

I can’t believe my ears when my father tells me that I must marry Carlo’s daughter. That it’s the only way to save our family. I will never love the daughter of my enemy. I will never make peace between our families.

I will never be the dutiful Mafia prince my father wants.

But I will destroy the Andrettis, and I will avenge my family. No matter who I hurt, even the girl who looks at me with love in her eyes.

She doesn’t know me, and she doesn’t know my past or what I’m planning. If she did, she wouldn’t look at me that way. She’d hate me, the way I hate her father.

And truly, that would be for the best.

I can never love Antonella Andretti. I can only destroy her.

ANTONELLA ANDRETTI

I can hardly remember the time before I loved Enrico Lucchesi. Just like I can hardly remember the time before our families were at war.

A war I helped cause. A war I’m determined to end.

Our marriage will bring peace. It might even bring us happiness.

If only Enrico can forget who I am.

If only he never learns my role in what happened.

If only he can forgive me.

But some sins are unforgivable.

    This review may contain spoilers!

This is the second book I've read by Dana Delamar and I am thrilled to have found her and her incredibly awesome stories. After reading Revenge, I had to know about Rico and Toni's past. Rico is such an intense character in Revenge. With such passion and with so much love for his dead wife, I couldn't wait to read about how they came together.

I loved their story. I loved reading about Toni and Rico's slowly forming love and affection for each other despite their feuding families. Toni was such a likeable character. I loved that she never seemed torn by her family's business, only torn over her own contributions to specific tragedies. I found her believable considering the atmosphere for which she was raised. I also found her to be in complete contrast to Kate, the heroine in Revenge. While Kate was often shocked and upset over the actions and events of the other characters, I found Toni's complete acceptance of the `business' a refreshing change. I'm so glad I read Revenge first, it might have made it difficult for me to accept Toni's death and it definitely would have made it difficult to accept Kate if I would have read Malavita first.

Rico and Toni's feelings for the `business' were also a contrast. Where Toni seemed all accepting, interested, and even contributed to her father's business, Rico never wanted and never intended to live that lifestyle. This all flowed well with the information I already had of their relationship from Revenge. Dana's portrayal of both characters really enhanced the story for me. If Rico had been a merciless killer, and Toni a soft-heart and easily shocked `girl', I don't think I would have enjoyed this story half as much.

On that note, I loved getting a glimpse into Rico before he was capo. Learning about his son and reading firsthand how much he loved Nico and missed him. I didn't get much of that in Revenge so this was really eye opening for me. I knew from Revenge that Rico had never intended to be capo or even participate in his family's dealings, but reading his struggles in Malavita gave me a new found respect for him and his motives in both books.

Dana's ability to draw a reader into a story and hold their attention is top notch. Her scene setting and descriptions make it difficult to put her books down. It was a perfect page turner, plotted wonderfully. I finished the book satisfied with their store and ready to move on to Retribution.

Toni and Rico are today's Romeo and Juliet, only better! Dana's masterfully crafted characters will live and breathe long after you've finished reading Malavita.

You don't have to be a fan of Mafia stories to enjoy this book, you just have to love a great story. Either way, you won't be disappointed in this topnotch, 5+ star read!

Malavita was an intensely compelling read. I was glued to my Kindle for the first half of the book, and when I had to take a break for a couple of hours to do some paperwork, I could not get back to my Kindle fast enough. I connected to Toni’s character almost immediately and because of her upbringing – both as an Italian and as a principessa – I often forgot that she was only 16. The life into which she was born required that either she grow up with a maturity and understanding of the world that most her age don’t have or she grow up completely sheltered and naïve. What we learned of Antonella (Toni) over the course of the book is that despite his old school ways, her father, Carlo, seemed to have struck a nice balance between the two that gave her far more insight into that world than a female normally gets while maintaining her innocence. And ultimately, it is this combination of maturity and innocence that wins Enrico over.

In his own right, Enrico was put in an unenviable situation that left me feeling badly for him on many accounts. And while his lashing out at Toni was understandable, I was relieved when he finally saw the error of his ways – even if his initial reason for doing so was out of revenge rather than understanding. Because of this, he unintentionally gave Toni the opening she needed to unknowingly work her way into his heart. While Enrico’s path to revenge was a bit grisly, it was appropriate to the situation and storyline. This was one of those instances where I felt that the violence added to the book and Enrico’s character development rather than being added just to shock the reader.

I felt the author did an excellent job of striking a balance between the romance between Toni and Enrico and the machinations of the men in power – Carlo, Rinaldo, and Enrico. There was only one actual sex scene and it was glanced over, similar to fade-to-black sex scenes on television. As Toni is only 16 and a virgin, there were a few scenes showing her and Enrico making out and this served as an extended bit of foreplay that provided just a bit of heat while preserving her chasteness. Ms. Delamar demonstrated that an author does not have to include graphic sex scenes (which we know I’m all for) in order to ramp up the heat in a novel. Even knowing that Toni is considered a woman in her culture, I was quite pleased with the manner in which the author dealt with the sex (or lack thereof) scenes because it helped to maintain Toni’s overall innocence. This allowed for more of a focus on the romance that develops once Enrico takes the time to look past Toni's last name and give them an honest chance. Malavita was an exciting introduction to the Blood and Honor series and I hope to be able to read the next book in the series soon as I need to know what life (and Carlo) has in store for Enrico and Toni.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I actually enjoyed the book for its action and it's pace. However, I felt that it was rushed at times. There was a lot of repetition in the conversations between characters. I didn't like how Rico was always failing and having to give up something to prove himself. She had a secret but it was delicious enough for my tastes. I have no desire to read the others in this series. I wish I did I love a good mafia story.

I started reading Malavita because it was recommended by a friend; as soon as I knew it was about mafia, I grabbed the book and didn't put it down until I finished it some hours later. Some hours, right! The story has great suspense and flow, however the main characters did not really act and speak their ages, but the plot doesn't let you care much about the age of the characters! The main character, Enrico, is definitely a dynamic character; charismatic and strong. It's so easy and pleasant to follow him through the story, while the descriptions and dialogues are written well, so you can finish it a few hours after you start reading the book!

For a prequel there sure is a lot packed in here. I thoroughly enjoyed this book but felt a little dizzy with the back and forth actions of Enrico. Gah that man had me going around in circles but I guess that was what this poor guy was feeling most of the time.
Antonella was the young daughter of his father's nemesis and unfortunately they signed a marriage deal between Enrico and Antonella in order to make peace. In order to become the strongest of the families. It really tells the story of Enrico becoming the man that he is supposed to be, and enacting revenge on Antonella's father. In amongst it all he does find love in Antonella despite having a family elsewhere.
I have the second part here and I am extremely curious to see where this goes. I loved the style, and the backdrop was described so beautifully that at times I just wanted to climb into those pages. Has a subtle darkness to it, I prefer my dark to be dark, but it in no way spoilt the story for me.
    Definitely recommend!
