About the Author

Holly Arnold Kinney, accomplished author and restaurateur has been asked nightly by her guests at The Fort to write a children's book about Sissy bear, as so many people remember the bear fondly and they want their children and grandchildren to know about this interesting part of Colorado history. Sissy Bear lived at The Fort from 1963 until she died of old age in 19 in 1982.Sissy kissed thousands of Fort guests over the years. Ms. Kinney founded her publishing company, Fur Trade Press, LLC in 2009, wrote and published her first cookbook Shinin' Times at The Fort in 2010, in celebration of The Fort's 50th anniversary and as a tribute to her late father, Sam'l P. Arnold, and mother Elizabeth Bay Arnold who built and owned this adobe landmark. The cookbook sold over 5,000 copies in eight months in five states. Given the finalist award by the Colorado Humanities Book Awards,Shinin Times at The Fort cookbook continues to sell exceptionally well. In 2011, Ms. Kinney published the DVD and companion cookbook Sam Arnold's Frying Pans West in honor of her late father and his series of ten PBS cooking shows that aired from 1967-1986 nation-wide. Museums and gift shops as well as culinarians and food historians love this treasure. Happily married, Holly Arnold Kinney loves hiking in the Colorado mountains, reading history, animals, and her Fort family of employees, and Fort guests.
