Pros:
1-Very stable and very fast quad
2-Very inexpensive
3-Survives hard landings and minor crashes
4-Acceptable flight time (6-7 minutes)
5- inverted flight and 180 flips with the touch of a button
6- extra batteries (not included) are inexpensive to purchase (about 6 bucks)
7- Very nice LED lights
8- 4 replacement propellers included
9- Very nice transmitter for the price (LCD? display)
10- Small enough to fly indoors (with experience)
11- Prop guards provide protection for landing inverted or crashing upside down
Cons:
1- Motors will wear out over time
2- Not powerful enough to fly in moderate to heavy winds
3- Small size can make it hard to see outdoors
The UDI U27 quad soars with potential, but crashes on delivery. The biggest drawback is the very poor battery life performance, which quickly cuts into enjoyment. After roughly the first 30 seconds of airtime, flying is akin to a butterfly transporting a rock. Most of your efforts will be spent keeping this quad afloat – any hint of downward momentum requires at least a 15’ cushion for recovery. To make matters worse, even with the stock 450 mAh battery actual flight time clocks in at less than 5 minutes (4:50) without the blade guards! There are a few positives that are worth mentioning – both the quad and the controller are built of very sturdy material. The controller is contoured nicely in the hands, and thumb stick controls feel great. There are also some fun flight-features such as inverted flight and flips. At the end of the day, however, we can’t recommend this drone except as a spare to give that annoying kid who lives next door just to placate his constant pleas to drive one of your quads. Even he’ll have a tough time wrecking the UD U27.
PROS
• Very durable, this thing is built like a tank. Even without the blade guards, you will have a tough time damaging the UDI U27
• Solid, sturdy control with mini LCD display, fits well into the hands
• Flips and inverted flights are available with the push of a button
CONS
• Has trouble staying in the air, particularly after the first 30 seconds of battery
• Very poor battery life
Price 8/10 ($31.99 at time of writing)
The U27 is decently priced to other quads in this size and feature range, coming in around $32 at the time of writing.
Battery Life 3/10
The stock LiPo battery is 450 mAh, and you’ll get a little less than 5 minutes of flight time without the blade guards (with the blade guards subtract 20-30 seconds). With a standard 380 mAh batter, we got about 3 minutes and 45 seconds of flight. However, after the first 30 seconds of flight with either battery, performance greatly tapers off which contributes to the low score for the battery. After a minute of flying, most of your piloting skills will be used trying to prevent this quad from scraping the ground. This is explained more in-depth in the “Flight” section. Based on the compartment size, we don’t recommend going larger than a 450 mAh battery.
Durability (10/10)
This is a very sturdy quad, and you will have trouble finding a way to break it. It seems many of the design choices were geared toward making this a tank. If I’m ever going to play drone crash’mups, I’m bringing my U27.
Flight Performance (3/10)
The U27 has three flight modes: beginner, medium, and advanced, most of the time was spent on advanced mode. The first thirty seconds experiences controlled flight with a tight yaw (turning radius), but after that prepare to struggle keeping the U27 off the ground. The slightest bit of downward momentum requires a 15’ cushion before the quad starts to lift again. Performance tapers off even more drastically after the first minute. Inverted flight and flips are gimmicky, but still fun. The most frustrating part with the U27 is that it COULD be fun to drive (and IS for the first 30 seconds), but the potential is wasted by the poor performance/battery life curve.
Controller (9/10)
The U27 has a very nice controller. Like the quad itself, the controller feels very solid and durable. It takes (4) AAA batteries and the range is 30m, slightly less than other quads in this size and feature range. There is a small LCD screen that displays the flying mode (beginner/medium/advanced), the amount of throttle, and the trim settings. The ergonomics are fantastic fitting well into the hands, and the thumb sticks are grooved fitting comfortably with our thumbs.
Aesthetics (9/10)
This is more or less a matter of personal opinion, but we found the U27 to look intimidating. The overall contour is very sharp, and the black/red color scheme compliments its powerful look.
Features (8/10)
This is a basic drone with features/characteristics as follows:
• Control Distance about 30m
• Inverted flight
• Flip button
• No camera
• Has beginner, medium, and advanced flight mode settings
• Red/Blue LED lights for orientation, however the blue lights are located in the front of the quad and are difficult to see. Typically, these lights are located on the bottom of the quad which makes detecting the orientation much easier in low-light situations.
• Headless mode per specifications (was not tested by Quad Corner)
• No one-key return
• Trim controls yes
• Low-battery warning with blinking lights - time about 5 seconds so be prepared to land this quad quickly
• Package contents – spare set of blades, blade guard, 450 mAh battery with USB charger, clip-on blade guards
Here’s HOW WE SCORE! All categories are not created equal, and a weight factor is applied based on how important it is to the overall value of the product. A breakdown of our quad scoring formula is shown below:

Price 8 20%
Battery Life 3 15%
Durability 10 15%
Flight 3 25%
Controller 9 5%
Aesthetics 9 10%
Features 8 10%
TOTAL SCORE 6.4

It is fragile though. After a few crash landings, one of the thin, plastic propeller bumpers had cracked. It doesn't seem to affect the flight of the copter though.
